I'm now more convinced of your ideas (especially re:the &lt;a href="http://mashable.com/2006/02/27/here-come-the-edge-aggregators/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" title="http://mashable.com/2006/02/27/here-come-the-edge-aggregators/"&gt;edge aggregator&lt;/a&gt; model) than I was when I wrote this post, but I think the major problem you face is getting traction with customers.
