word-of-mouth marketing is, of course, the the most effective means of marketing. the idea is to systematize it into a revenue-generating machine that is controlled, analyzable, and reportable. this has been done already -- bzzagent has been in this space for some time.

i recently interviewed samual clemens, director of network optimization at bzzagent. see that interview here:

I'm not sure it works right. I just threw in "digital cameras" into the search, and it came up with kingston memory cards and bose digital speakers.

Perhaps I am doing this wrong...

I'm not convinced enough people want to do this to make it useful. Who knows, though.

    Hi Anand,

Thanks for the chat today. I'm now more convinced of your ideas (especially re:the edge aggregator model) than I was when I wrote this post, but I think the major problem you face is getting traction with customers. Yes, you'll have plenty of content, but getting the word out is a bit tougher (especially if you're targeting mainstream users, who are difficult to reach).

Just a quick note - the Whatsbuzzing site has been updated with a newer search algorithm that fixes the issue raised by 'kmx' above. The Web 2.0 culture demands quick turn around!
