Also check out FAQQLY, they have a feature called "shares".

As you know this is a Q&A service (you can only ask a question to your friends network, or you can travel around asking questions on other user spaces...they also now have groups)

Bookmooch is very basic. No ajax interface. No personilised home page. No RSS. No user blogs. No podcast. No major social networking tools.

    That's why I love it!

Each book is worth 1 point. Send a book out and get 1 point. Use that point to get a book from somebody else. That's pretty much it.

This is going to be *huge*.

    Then again...there's always the library.

wonder how this bodes for www.librarything.com ?

It's not related to LibraryThing - they have different functions, from what I've seen. Now, www.paperbackswap.com - that might lose some customers. Although actually, I tried BookMooch when it premiered and didn't like it, and that's what drove me to find PaperBackSwap. I've mailed out 20+ books since then and received several. They have a 1:1 ratio, too, rather than the 5:1 ratio of BookMooch.

There seems to a flood of online swapping plays recently. I think there is one fundamental reason they may be able to be very big - the currency is not real. Most of the successful marketplaces like ebay work because people make money.

You might want to check a brand new (stealth) startup which is definitely ensuring the currency aspect: iLetYou (http://www.iletyou.com)

Vote: Book Mooch... I love book mooch, I have saved a lot of money on book from other users, and I have sent books to other people that I did not want to keep in my library. It's a good thing all around! Have faith in humanity and try it!

Bookmooch has very poor customer service. If another member gives you trouble, they will not go out of their way to help you. Other book trading sites like paperbackswap.com are much more user friendly, offer more books, and have better customer service.
