MUSICIANS: Your only opportunity is not product placement or selling songs to mass market appeal. Think outside the box, or email mattsy //at// myuzk.com for ideas. I'm dead serious.

The unique scrobbling feature is helpful in developing charts of my musical taste. It compares my preferences to other users around the world. If someone has similar musical taste, I will play their playslist for fresh music I haven't heard before to find new artists. The website is as social as you desire....and I am very social. I have made several contact there with whom I connect with at varioius live band shows.
Services compared are : Echotron, Last.fm, Pandora, Sprotify, Deezer and Grooveshark.
Read it here: http://finetuning.free.fr/?p=399
"Pandora is great for listening to music online, but without having any foresight or direct say over upcoming tracks, it’s certainly not the best there is if you’re looking to achieve playlist perfection."
I love Pandora (use it all the time) but when compared against the recommendation features of the sites listed, it definitely falls short.
Our new service Music Patterns (http://www.signalpatterns.com/music_survey) provides customized playlists based on music that 'People Like You' actually listen to.
Using a psychology-based approach to music preferences, this method combines your individual preferences with identifying those that are similar to your 'music personality.'
This new form of social music recommendation was developed from years of research in this area by best selling author Dr. Dan Levitin and our team at Signal Patterns.
I recently found Slacker (http://www.slacker.com) and think they do a pretty amazing job. You pick the artists and the songs to start. You can Fine Tune based on Year, Popularity, how much Music Discovery and how often you want your favorited songs to play.
The matches are pretty spot on and I find myself listening for hours a day. I've discovered a ton of great new music (and heard some old favorites). Also, not much repetition, especially compared to Pandora or others.

Anyone have an invite so I can check it out? blog at dienger.com

I can't wait to check it out.
Also if you want to friend me on last.fm:

I especially like the Radio feature - it beats Last.fm by being able to choose to listen to (say) Alt, Pop, Rock & Techno all on the same station, rather than just one genre - and limit the years it scrobbles from.
Audio quality is good, too.
The "oops: error connecting" message that has persisted for years, with no fix. Google it and you'll see.
website today, and use almost every day, is Blip.fm - It is IMO the best social
music site on the web.
It also 'tweets' the comment you leave while playing a track to Twitter if you
wish, and use @ replies to communicate with other listeners. Awesome.
Cheers - @liamvickery
I don't have difficulties with Last.fm so I will continue to recommend it. I find their forum invaluable for technical assistance. I love the scrobbling feature more than any other feature. I also enjoy the customized radio station the site creates for me based on my listening habits.
Liam Vickery,
Thank you for your informative comment about Blip. I have seen multiple tweets with Blip links. I'll check it out now that I have read your comment.
Stay tuned!!

Jamendo is good for musicians and to people.

Musicovery runs slow as shit and its recommendation engine is as smart as a dead tree.
Last.fm has next to no music on the service so I've never found a reason to use it. It might recommend new music but then you gotta go find that music on torrents or YouTube. I know some pple who like it though so I don't think Last.fm can be completely written off.
iTunes Genius doesn't actually recommend new music. It just makes automatic playlists. That's great but isn't the point of recommending music to discover new music? I'm probably missing the point of 'recommendation' compared to 'discovery' but in my mind they are synonymous.
I haven't tried iLike or MyStrands and I will make a point to do so. But I stay on top of internet music services for the most part and unless these are two brand new services, I don't think they will be any good cuz they haven't gotten a significant amount of press/blog coverage and I've never heard of them before. If they are good, people would be talking about them.
Where is Pandora?
Where is Slacker?
Where is thesixtyone?
Each of these 3 services are light years ahead of any of the services mentioned in this post. I would HIGHLY recommend you check them out if you haven't already. Ya, Pandora doesn't allow you to see what's up next but isn't that the beauty of radio? Also, if you want to be more in control of what's coming up next, check out the Fine Tuning features in Slacker. They allow you to control very specific details about what kind of music you want to hear. I am quite surprised that more people don't know about it.
I feel that this list is definitely for people with their own music library on their computer. I don't own music so I guess I shouldn't even be commenting on this post but seriously, Musicovery?!? Try using it for a few days and then get back to me on how much hair you ripped out of your skull due to frustration.
Most music lovers would really find this list helpful. Especially the ones who makes their living in mixing music and inventing cool tones and beats. However, the instrument would be a big factor in terms of providing great audio experience to the listeners. With this in mind, it is therefore important to possess the audio gadgets and equipments
Keep it coming.
If I lived in the U.S. I would use Pandora.
Also , if you are unsigned, you should check out www.dittomusic.com, they put your music onto Spotify, iTunes and hundreds of other sites free of charge.

Still think the best site for music discovery is Blip.fm. Best music site all around too. But then it is my personal addiction.
Enjoy!
