I think it's been positioned for national advertisers as well as musicians and profiles.

Re: MySpace Officially Unveils MyAds

this will work well in the short term, but ultimately myspace are moving in the wrong direction and shall be dethroned eventually... why? because they will cease to cater to music, and will only cater to business, putting them in the same category as the previous model they replaced - i.e. radio stations with the same rubbish 5 songs playlist... quality will not shine through because it will not be able to shout loud enough above the background noise (or pay enough money as the case may be)...

the internet is still an open platform...

Re: MySpace Officially Unveils MyAds

The upload and create ad pages eventually loaded for me, but it was super slow and some features didn't work.
Also, they make you create a separate login which you access in a different location than the main profile login. It certainly has potential, especially for bands, but the whole thing seems 2x as cumbersome as facebook.

Re: MySpace Officially Unveils MyAds

I have been helping a local music shop http://www.ncg1stopshop.net/ do a little web promoting and I have put up pages on both myspace and facebook and the response has been so much better on myspace. This new ad program sounds like something that will really fit into their budget. as far as myspace being too cluttered I have never had a problem with it. They don't interfere with the pages content and that's all that matters to me.

Re: MySpace Officially Unveils MyAds

1) The upload ad page never loads... for both creating and uploading your own. I never have Flash issues with other sites, if they are doing something new / different there should be instructions to upgrade software.

2) Can you only send traffic to MySpace profile pages? It looks that way from the instructional piece at the bottom of the page - Seriously weak.

Re: MySpace Officially Unveils MyAds

Nice move by MySpace, in this fierce competition from Facebook and similar services. I think this will give a major boost to MySpace popularity.

Re: MySpace Officially Unveils MyAds

This is a nice move by myspace; but it continues to follow their stale old act of creating large amounts of revenue on the backs of members and their content.

myspace is easily worth at least a billion, and where is the value coming from other than members/the communities content and activities.

How much ad revenue is myspace sharing with members that generate ad revenue for them ? Are they giving anything back to the community that has put them where they are ?

I am technology consultant, and this summer I became so feed up with the share cropper mentality of sites like myspace that I decided to build an application that shares the wealth that is created with the community.

We also have a stand alone ad service and we have a granular micro revenue sharing service that allows members to share their revenue with Friends, Groups, or Causes.

And unlike myspace and the rest we will be releasing most of the service to the open source community because we know we are not the smartest guys in the room.

Re: MySpace Officially Unveils MyAds

---"I only go on MySpace to check out songs."

And if you're and artists or a label.. that's a very important statement!!!!!!

Re: MySpace Officially Unveils MyAds

---"Is anyone still using MySpace? The clutter put me off ages ago."

Yes. It's still number one in number of users. Way ahead of Facebook, especially in my genre of hip hop.

---"Ads is that it’s cheap and OK for brand building, but it’s not leading to a great number of purchases."

That's fine with me. At this stage in the game "for me".. brand recognition is more important than sales.

---"Are we seeing MySpace evolving into the largest social network for artistes and those who want to be entertained?"

Isn't it that already?????

Re: MySpace Officially Unveils MyAds

Hey Cassie, I say go for it. Give it a test run, analyze the response and if the response was positive, give it a larger test run. That is, if they could get it to work in Europe. Me and my European buddies just can't create any ads. At least most people who I know just get a nice Javascript Error. How professional. ;)

Re: MySpace Officially Unveils MyAds

Wow, I had that detail wrong, too, then - I was under the impression that you could only send traffic to Myspace profiles.

Re: MySpace Officially Unveils MyAds

Every piece of coverage of the MySpace ads platform over the last 2 weeks (including both Mashable posts) has the same detail wrong:

MySpace ads can link to offsite URLs, not just MySpace profiles. (Yes, you can promote ringtone offers on MySpace).

Their site's graphics imply that it only allows MySpace profiles, and seems to have mislead everyone covering the product. But in reality its basically identical to Facebook Ads, but with a minimum CPC.

Re: MySpace Officially Unveils MyAds

This sounds familiar. MyAds aka Facebook Ads... Either way, it's a smart platform, since Musicians/talent in general would love to promote who they are or what they are doing. Especially bands on tour trying to focus on cities they are touring in. It will definitely be a financial success, no one can argue with that.

Re: MySpace Officially Unveils MyAds

Myspace is already such a Cluster!
