MySpace ads can link to offsite URLs, not just MySpace profiles. (Yes, you can promote ringtone offers on MySpace).
Their site's graphics imply that it only allows MySpace profiles, and seems to have mislead everyone covering the product. But in reality its basically identical to Facebook Ads, but with a minimum CPC.
Other than that, this seems like Facebook Ads but in a News Corp coat. Feedback I have read on forums from small businesses suing Facebook Ads is that it's cheap and OK for brand building, but it's not leading to a great number of purchases.
If the same is true of MyAds then I guess the target market for it that they identify probably won't care, as being in front of people is the reward they want more than cash.
Are we seeing MySpace evolving into the largest social network for artistes and those who want to be entertained?

Yes. It's still number one in number of users. Way ahead of Facebook, especially in my genre of hip hop.

That's fine with me. At this stage in the game "for me".. brand recognition is more important than sales.

Isn't it that already?????
the internet is still an open platform...

And if you're and artists or a label.. that's a very important statement!!!!!!
myspace is easily worth at least a billion, and where is the value coming from other than members/the communities content and activities.
How much ad revenue is myspace sharing with members that generate ad revenue for them ? Are they giving anything back to the community that has put them where they are ?
I am technology consultant, and this summer I became so feed up with the share cropper mentality of sites like myspace that I decided to build an application that shares the wealth that is created with the community.
We also have a stand alone ad service and we have a granular micro revenue sharing service that allows members to share their revenue with Friends, Groups, or Causes.
And unlike myspace and the rest we will be releasing most of the service to the open source community because we know we are not the smartest guys in the room.
2) Can you only send traffic to MySpace profile pages? It looks that way from the instructional piece at the bottom of the page - Seriously weak.
Also, they make you create a separate login which you access in a different location than the main profile login. It certainly has potential, especially for bands, but the whole thing seems 2x as cumbersome as facebook.
