Twitter did really settle in this year, which is a good thing of course. And Facebook saw a spike in its users. Didn't they pass up MySpace in terms of worldwide users? MySpace got a redesign as well. Quite a few (don't remember exact numbers) tuned in to watch Presidential debates and such via the web. Could anything regarding the Olympics be said?

I like Christopher's idea; let's see predictions for 09! Where do you think Twitter and Friendfeed will be? Which Social Network will be in the lead? What major changes will we see? Which browser will be leading all others? Etc..

I'd add to the list the start of Task2Gather project (http://task2gather.com). Though it hasn't become so popular yet it definitely has potential.The unique features make it worth for collaboration between team members.

One item I feel you missed is the emergence of Lifestreaming or the aggregation of social media data. There are many services that have taken off in this sector such as FriendFeed, Strands, Lifestream.fm and all of the big boys are starting to incorporate the functionality and/or acquiring services as well including Facebook, Google, Microsoft, and Yahoo. There is also an abundance of tools out there that many people are incorporating into their own sites.
