I am an online marketing consultant and apart from in the U.S the impact of these social networking sites is being way overhyped. For example in the U.k the average youngster has yet to hear of such sites and it was not until late Spring/Summer that these sites started to get press attention. Myspace is always featured in the Times (which isn't surprising as they own it), however they never seem to show any negative publicity about it. Also, Facebook in other countries is massively overhyped, we have figures and research on their users in countries such as the U.K. They have not penetrated the user base anywhere near they are claiming to have. U.k users of Facebook have stated Facebook has nothing to it and is basically MSN Messenger with Pictures and have said that the appeal/novelty of the site has worn off. This site is an excellent informatie tool on web 2.0 based sites, but all of these minute updates widgets etc go dont have an impact in the U.k. The networking scene is not any way near mature here, just because something is most popular searched item, such as Bebo. That is because it is mainly young teenagers with spare time on their hands going in and out of the site repeadtedly. The statement about another MySpace is nonsense. If people roll out a MySpace clone yes they will fail, however if there is a community at the core, with new elements around it then there is always a possibilty for new uptake. What people need to remember is that young people are fickle and want to attach to what it hot at the moment. MySpace depends on lots of its members finding each other interesting. But what was once a place to hang out if you were online and aged between 15 and 25 is rapidly going mainstream and becoming a middle-aged society. That is just, like, so uncool. Add to this the fact that spammers and scammers are beginning to make their mark on more and more MySpace pages, and it is easy to envisage users simply abandoning the site as if it were last year's fashion item.
Another point made incorrectly on this site, is that it is about how many members your site has. As a proffesional in databases (values), the quality of the database is also important. What type of people are you attracting etc. needs to be taken into consideration.
Remember Hoover was dominating the market, Dyson came and gave them a big hit. Remember Sega/Nintendo having the console market wrapped up in the mid 90's, Sony came and trounced them. Yahoo, was a big name in the U.K way way before Google, however Google has become number 1. Virgin Airlines launched after British Airways had decades of a head start and he still gave them a run for his money. Sony now is much weaker after facing competition from the likes of Samsung/LG. Microsoft seems to be the giant on the wane, after competition from other internet companies. These examples ae used to show that outside of America the social networking scene has a long way to go before saturation and laterunique entrants can be seen as a cooler/fresh alternative. For example MySpace can be seen as a large superclub which packs in people by the thousands. However people who want to be soon as cool dont go to such clubs but smaller, classier establishments (where ther is the right crowd). Also, strong regional versions have the potential to do well if they cater specifically to that countries audience which they can do better then a big corporate American giant. I am not saying this is gospel, i just think hyped figures, PR need to be cooled down and a reality check is required. Fair enough the U.S market has been very saturated and they tend to be a few years advanced in web based matters anyway. However in other countries how can it be said that the scene is developed when Broadband takeup only surged in the last 12/18 months!

The difference between Quizilla and MySpace is important though -- MySpace is a largly introverted popularity contest where the whole point is to get the most friends.
The point of Quizilla (originally) was to let people make cool stuff and push it outward. So the idea is to get something legitimately original to a lot of people, not just to become more popular because you already were popular.
Whether or not MTV chooses to keep this or turn it into yet another myspace clone is a big "if", but I hope they see that there are people who and to MAKE COOL STUFF, not just appear on the most friends lists.

Well, I'm starting to get sick of quizilla. It's getting worse by the day. Half of the stuff on quizilla right now has something to do with stereotyping or chainletters. And the worse part is: no ones doing anything about it! If the quizilla staff (including the founder) did their job right, over half of the quizlla population would have their account deleted. At least, thats what it says on the rules/faq/quiz information page. If people are worried about what's gonna happen to quizilla in the future, then SOMEONE should've done something about it before. And who knows, maybe someone can do something about it now.

This sucks. Alot. I'm a frequent user of quizilla, and I think a large population of quizilla users are people who hate MTV. And, now the MTV audience will think "MTV says its cool... So, I should think its cool too." That would pretty much ruin the intention of the site. It was made for people who have individual thoughts, and want to share that with others. Not to become another popularity contest. And, thats exactly what will happen if the MTV viewers take over quizilla.
It will go to shit, causing (As proven by at least half of the people who replied to this, saying that they would.) most of its users to leave.

OMG! I loved the way quizilla use to be. There was soo much too offer. Why change something thats good?! Now I find out that once quizilla changes its format it can't go back. If the creators and designers are reading this you guys screwed up big time! Already most of the great writers are leaving the site. And I can't even work it anymore. They said that there would be bugs, but they didn't say that some accounts won't even work! i can only send messages! There are other people like me, who can't post, publish, or even save a draft of their story. The creators ruined something taht was good! The big question is.....WHY!?!?!?!?!?!?

When I found out about Quizilla 2 or 1 year ago, I was so freaking happy. On my computah. 24/7. Making stories, poems and all those other crap. I enjoyed making fanfictions. Then Quizilla anounced that they will have a newly designed quizilla. Honestly, I was excited to see and stuff. But then when I went back to the website one dae, it was pretty much hell. I DON'T GET THE JOLLY FEELING WHEN I ENTER THE NEW QUIZILLA. DO YOU KNOW HOW ME, THIS YOUNG YOUNG GIRL, IS DEALING WITH? Danggit, writing is my freaking PASSION. And you ruined it by having FLAWS. Sure, you can make quizzes a lot easier. BUT IT DOESN'T FEEL THE SAME. I LOVED THAT FREAKING SITE. And you MTV people will pay. Someday. If possible. You are ruining my dreams of becoming a writer. Hoping to get high ratings on my work....hoping that i will get messages saying "o m g, i looovve ur stories! it's sooo full of love, passion, romance, suspence and draaamaaa~" You made them not come true. I have to admit that the new Quizilla is just a lame excuse for a Quiz site if you can't freely express your views with whatever subject. Sex, violence, etc. I dislike it more than any site i've ever been to. Sure the old site had alot of dumbass people who couldn't realize that those stupid chainletters were killing the site but it's not half the Quillaians fault that the Admins were lazy ass people who wouldn't do shit to help fix and delete half of those people like they stated they would in the rules. So now they have punished the whole writer base. It was a fun site, and now as I am looking at it's grave site I hope that MTV will join it soon. I never liked the company to begin with. It's lame and who the hell says popularity is whats most important you jackasses? Leave that to myspace. Facebook. WHOEVER! Thanks for taking the best site I use to spend foreverz on and blowing it to the lamest site ever.
