Great post and I like the mashable blidget very much, we will set it up on our site as a news blidget. Hopefully blidgets are going to explode this year and with companies like WidgetBox making it easier to create and share widgets / blidgets / bebo apps / facebook apps etc, the rise seems unstoppable!

The custom themes are particularly nice - especially the Twitter theme. Super easy and good looking. No coded needed.

I took a quick look, and it does look easy to set up widgets that have some degree of sophistication. Question here, and I can't seem to find any information about this on the WidgetBox site, is whether the $3.99 subscription is for a single widget or it covers multiple widgets. For instance, I often need to supply the same widget in three different widths to match customers' page layouts. Would I have to pay $3.99 per month for each widget? That's not clear from any of the information on the WidgetBox site. Anyone have a thought? Thanks in advance.

I never said it was quicker or easier - i just said how long it took me. I think I also pointed out that it was 'still not there'. overall though, for the amount that you can do I found there design pretty intuitive - no less than any adobe app.

the problem with these projects is that whilst it promotes the functionality and makes it more accessible to users, on a business side you have some clients who wonder why they should be paying $20,000 for something they could *build* on their own lol.

I gave Kick Apps a shot, it's in NO-WAY easier or quicker to create a widget than Blidget Pro. It's confusing and requires a little more knowledge.

I do agree that a professional widget is really the key though.

myeh. kick apps was doing this about 18 months ago...
just sign up for free.
it took me about 5 mins to create a simple feed based one and about another 5 mins to brand it. very intuitive. you can also create youtube widgets etc.
but it's still not there.
and there will never be a replacement for getting a widget professionally developed - particularly on a strategy level.

Widget box was the first widget company that I had heard of, yet I do not hear enough about widget box in the tech community. The versitility of the blidget and its ability to spread virally seems unstoppable. I guess I will have to horde the internets best kept secret!
