Mashable - The Social Media Guide: 2008/09/23/automattic-acquires-intensedebate/

If you look at the related article thing they were talking about, and now this purchase, I'd say WordPress is edging towards being a full-blown social network.

If that is the case, it makes sense to do so incrementally, rather than in one painful push.

I certainly look forward to a proper commenting system on Blah, put it that way...

I think this is also a great news for Disqus while some might think otherwise
  • Adam Ostrow · 1 year ago
what makes you think that? While I think they are the best right now, it could really impede their growth opportunity if WordPress migrates all their blogs to IntenseDebate. On the other hand, it could mean Disqus will quickly be scooped up by either Six Apart or Google (Blogger).

I use Disqus but if ID was in WP core, that would rock.
  • Wayne Smallman · 1 year ago
That's really what I'm hoping for, because if IntenseDebate does become part of the standard install of WordPress, that'll solve one major problem for me with these commenting systems and that's having the comments on my blog stored somewhere else...
  • Michael Koenig · 1 year ago
Where your comments are stored is definitely a common concern Wayne. One of the main features of our new WordPress plugin (to be released shortly) addresses that issue. Without divulging too much detail, let me just say that the new IntenseDebate plugin will feature full data synchronization where you will always have your comments no matter what. Sorry I can't say more, I don't want to spill the beans just yet, but I think you'll be impressed.

You know Michael, I've been waiting on the "new WP plugin" for a while now. Last email I have from you on the subject is dated 29 August.

good insight - couldn't agree more . Was thinking a comment system that posts comments to selected stories automatically ... what do you think?
  • Michael Koenig · 1 year ago
You've got a good point Andrew. That's one of the goals of IntenseDebate - to give you the platform to voice your opinion and engage in a conversation that's organized and manageable. We're always looking to improve IntenseDebate and we love feedback, so let me know if there's a way for us to improve.

Michael: That's cool of you to read these comments and respond!

    Hey Michael, one more question:

Can I use video video comments with your plugin? As you can see, I like video comments. ;-)
  • Michael Koenig · 1 year ago
It's my pleasure Andrew - gotta pay attention to the comments, it's what IntenseDebate is all about! Seriously though, give ID a try and let me know if it's what you had in mind. If it's not please send me some feedback at support@intensedebate.com. Thanks!

Andrew, I tried responding to your comment a couple of times last night about me stopping by here, but I'm not seeing it here.

Anyway, it's my pleasure stopping by - gotta read the comments, it's what IntenseDebate is all about! When you get a chance please check out IntenseDebate comments and give it a try. We've got a good thread going on our blog right now under our latest post (http://intensedebate.com/blog). Let me know what you think and how we can improve it (support@intensedebate.com).

I'm with you about the comments here...of course I'm biased but I'd love to see mashable using IntenseDebate.

Jitendra how do you guys compare to the other commenting systems?

I just checked out the blog post you linked to. The comment form looks like a typical comment form. I didn't see room for video comments (which I've become hooked on, as you can see). I didn't see threaded comments.

    Andrew,

We leave the comment management to the blog and other social media platforms. We provide ratings, reputation and universal profile service..That being said, we do provide an out of the box threaded comment template. Take a look at CrunchGear that keeps you comments in your own repository and avoids any SEO implications.

    Thanks,
    Jitendra
