There is potential for this platform as it is a good way for people to get their first experience with a virtual world before they move on to something more advanced.

Re: Google Launches Lively to Create a Virtual World Across Social Networks

this is crap by google

Re: Google Launches Lively to Create a Virtual World Across Social Networks

مساء الخير

Re: Google Launches Lively to Create a Virtual World Across Social Networks

I won't be surprised if Lively is the norm for 3D chat on the web in the future. They have a lot of potential even though there are many competitors.

Re: Google Launches Lively to Create a Virtual World Across Social Networks

It was interesting to try out, but I can't figure out what I am supposed to do once I get there. I think it would be cooler to connect to my twitter and facebook and other stuff --- somehow. More of what I am thinking -- http://webpoet.wordpress.co...

Re: Google Launches Lively to Create a Virtual World Across Social Networks

I just tested "Lively". The right sidebar which would allow you to create and change your avatar appeared exactly 2 seconds, then it was forever gone - as a result I don't have a body in Lively, great! Every room I tried, it never worked - so I guess there are some bugs. Quite a frustrating start if you ask me. And I wish I could use it indepentently from my Google Account - that big fat spider that already knows almost everything about me. They should really stop forcing people to have a centralized Google account before they can use a product from the Google family - be it flickr, Picasa and so on. I'd definitely prefer separate accounts for separate programs, where not everything I do is recorded to my one and only centralized Google account.

Re: Google Launches Lively to Create a Virtual World Across Social Networks

I would like to know who exactly those companies are and what the requirements for a "social networking for deal making are." The reason I say this is that most managers or executive types need voice and face to face interaction for deal making.

People want to see reactions, watch expressions, listen for changes in inflection, make note of a pause behind hesitation, observe body language, etc. Beyond that, and getting into the technical realm, there are also security concerns... not that the sales pitch will ever get to that point.

Other than that, Google appeals to the mass market. While they do have servers and a limited array of B2B products, that is not their forte. As for the entrepreneur attempting to create such an offering, they better have lots of contacts or they will have an extremely difficult time even capturing one client.

Re: Google Launches Lively to Create a Virtual World Across Social Networks

Even simpler, people could just INVITE THEIR FRIENDS OVER!

Re: Google Launches Lively to Create a Virtual World Across Social Networks

The create a new characters(avatars)

Re: Google Launches Lively to Create a Virtual World Across Social Networks

I love lively, very hot social network.

Re: Google Launches Lively to Create a Virtual World Across Social Networks

This is a pretty cool idea, I always get excited when Google announces a new product.

Re: Google Launches Lively to Create a Virtual World Across Social Networks

oh great another IMVU clone...what will Google rip-off next?

Re: Google Launches Lively to Create a Virtual World Across Social Networks

It's incredible that a company such as Google can release something like this without Mac support.

Re: Google Launches Lively to Create a Virtual World Across Social Networks

hmmm. no, but we are showing our age, perhaps? I've been to Second Life, all it is from my point of vue is a glorified mIRC, that's it. 3D environnements are nice, but they are just that, nice to look at, eye-candy, nothing really easier, for what it's worth, it's complicating the communication process.

Consider a chat room of any kind, when someone is online, you double click to talk to him... Using some 3D environnement, you must walk to that person to talk to her, while she walks here and there, wiggling her arms, changing her appearance and suddenly growing wings and fly away... man, waste of time and annoying...

Re: Google Launches Lively to Create a Virtual World Across Social Networks

Yup no doubt in my mind now Google is poised to take over the world!
www.FireMe.To/udi

Re: Google Launches Lively to Create a Virtual World Across Social Networks

Does this crash in anyone else's FireFox 3.0? I have a good cable broadband connection and an Intel Core 2 Duo with 1gb ram - loaded in firefox and lively started taxing my pc. Firefox and my laptop went to a crawl, had to ctrl-alt-del to taskmanager and end the firefox.exe process.

It runs fine in explorer - but I don't want to use IE.

I was running Adblockplus along with some subscriptions and also NoScript - I allowed lively to be used - anyways, any ideas or if this is happening to others - let us know of any tips to fix this! Thanks
