Many business icons are now using twitter as one of their marketing tools well because twitter can drive a lot of traffic to their site, plus the fact that they don't have to spend so much money on advertising just to get traffic.

Twitter is a great service great apps and ability to build your network like myspace but clean like facebook. It is the best of both worlds.

Rapid growth is great, except for one rather enormous detail: every new user is a new financial loss (scaling costs money).

As great as Twitter is from a user perspective, it's basically the web 2.0 equivalent of Kozmo.com. There's simply no viable path to profitability. EVER. They can charge for use of the service, but they can't charge enough to turn a profit without losing most of their users -- thus diminishing the benefits of doing so. They can charge for use of the API, but they can't charge enough to profit on that either without app makers losing most of THEIR users -- again diminishing the benefits of doing so. And they can inundate the service with advertising, but that won't work because Twitter's reliance on mobile providers means that there exist potentially fatal consequences for consuming excess bandwidth -- i.e. being entirely blocked from accessing those networks.

So how exactly is Twitter going to survive when the golden goose of venture capitalism decides to pour its money down a different hole?

Twitter and Wordpress will become the standard web presence this year.

Most sites will have an Apture or Apture like layer on top of the
basic site.

This is the beginning of the revolution.

I have officially stopped designing static websites apart for very specific
exceptions. The weird thing is companies still want them.

Yeah....i too joined twitter in 2008-the best part is that its quick-you just need to follow on-and its focused and simple-all you do is update--and kind of less intimate and secretive-that's different from facebook

I love twitter because it forces people to get right to the point. No more
droning on for endless paragraphs with a bunch of fluff.

I'm glad I got in on it in summer 2007 and look forward to its further growth.

It may go down just as fast as it went up. It's really not that useful of a tool. The growth is
probably due to dot commies that just want the link because it has become such a good link. Also it so fast and silly to set up. But really, how useful is it as far as staying power?
