Your comments on the merits of a comic for an announcement are rather doltish. It's an inventive way to spread the word about a new product, and the bias you display marks you as unsophisticated. If you don't "get it", then you aren't Google target audience anyway. The technology behind the product is inventive and will certainly be a boon for users, if nothing else than to spur better development among all its competitors.

It's bugged, huh? Would you like to give me a legitimate post citing all these bugs that make it unbearable to use and inferior to firefox? Oh, no.. you won't do that, you'll just link your crappy site which clearly has the majority agreeing it's a powerful browser. If you're going to say something, cite some credible resource and not the opinion of 50,000 soccer moms compressed into one fail site.

something wrong with the timestamp in chrome and gmail. all messages adding 1hr.. yep checked settings in google/pc. when i use IE all time settings ok. even changes my messages forward 1hr yet in IE.. at correct time. whats going on?

I'm disappointed in Google - yeah, it's beta, but remember, how Gmail beta looked like... Looks like guys had to deliver it till deadline (10th birthday, maybe), and they were obviously short of time...
It's better than IE, but FF will live excellently long until Google fixes everything and makes enough plug-inns and versions for Mac/Linux...

What would be a better promotion? It was going to be talked about regardless of what they did. They could have just sent press releases and it would have been talked about just as much. They had some fun with it which is what they are known for. I know you had to find something to try to nail them for but to go after the comic side of it, when you were also a comic shop owner like some of us, please.

Obviously this would have been better if it came out during Comic-Con which may have been part of the plan.

I think this is one of Google's most ambitious projects ever. It seems like a very good move. The bottom line is that Google wants MSFT out of the way between them and the users/ browsers. At this point in time, users still need an operating system (usually windows) and a browser (normally IE). So this is Google attempt to tackle one (IE) if not both (windows as well). Google's support of Firefox supports their attampt to kill IE.

I'm all for any advances, but I have two problems with this.

1) Google seems to be becoming the next MSFT which doesn't sound so good to me. I'd be happier with a plethora of smaller companies.

2) There's a limit to how much I'm willing to share about my browsing behaviour with Google or any other company, be it MSFT, Mozilla or apple. The "private mode" features simply don't sound true to me. I feel like I'm being watched all the time. There's something about annonymity that I find appealing. Anyone with me?

The Google browser. This seems like a crazy move by google. I can only hope the browser has Gecko or Webkit as its base engine. We don't need or want another browser to support as developers.

The move is also odd as it wont take users away from IE but will more than likely reduce Mozilla and Operas share of the market.

Anyone who still actually thinks of comics as a "lightweight" or "nonserious" medium these days has probably had their exposure to it limited to the funnies at the back of the Sunday edition. It's a bit like saying rap can't be serious, or that old English literature is all dry and proper.

Given the complexity of what that comic is explaining, it's a far more effective format than, say, a PowerPoint presentation or text document.

Steven - Had no clue we were both of the elite few to sell comics :P Well, in general comics might not be the best format, but I think it makes it a bit more accessible to people in a format they are familiar with and it got them coverage for doing something unique. Sure, they could have gone with a flashy website - been done. Press release? Yawn. Comic book "leaked" on a slow news day? Jackpot for lots of coverage.

This reminds me of a very similar situation going on with wireless now. Paying wireless providers for data plans, then having them or content providers selling ad space on your data consumption...should consumers have to pay for their wireless bandwidth at current costs to cover receiving ads? As well, has anyone played with the beta browser from VIZIBLE and AT&T - Pogo (http://www.pogobrowser.com/). It is pretty neat but, too late?

I use to own a comic store as well Sean - or at least until the property owner went bankrupt and they discovered there was at least 3 mortgages on the place .. didn't have enough cash reserves to get setup all over again in a new locattion.

I loved owning that store .. comic rule :) but that doesn't mean that announcing a major product that is going to have a major impact in the tech world should come to us via a comic

As someone who owned a comic book store for 15.5 years... easily?
