I think an opportunity with this site is allowing communities, citizens and visitors provide information around places/attractions that don't make the typical travel brochure. The key is getting participation from people outside of places like Portland. I see similar problems with other user generated travel sites, they focus on the main cities not the hidden gems.

I almost expected Louis and Clark to pop out any moment.

I agree and think that regional or localized sites can have good popularity (perhaps even be fundamental) in the future of the Web.

I wonder if larger entities will gobble some of these up to exploit local user resources or to provide some level of local news etc.
