Amazon Payments does not disburse customers funds. They let you create the account, then they collect funds from your customers and then they KEEP YOUR CUSTOMERS MONEY. They do not let you withdraw funds. All of your customers money WILL be kept by Amazon. If you are sceptical, please research this service online before opening an account. They took me for $1500+. I have been in business online for over 10 years and I have never seen anything like this. If anyone is considering a class-action law suit please contact me at nda231@aol.com.

Amazon does well with credit cards. I'm hoping they can make a run for it with a PayPal alternative. For now, Here's a site with some great PayPal alternatives:

I think there is definitely space in the market for competition to PayPal. Amazon could definitely make some money by creating a payment solution that is more ubiquitous than PayPal. SBC Fulfillment provides third party fulfillment services just like Amazon fulfillment. Our e-commerce software works with many different payment systems: Google Checkout, eBay auctions, ProStores, PayPal and Amazon Seller Central.

Are small or large merchants going to want to hand over all their customer transaction data to Amazon? Especially, if they are stocking similar products?

Shipwire provides order fulfillment for Google Checkout, eBay auctions, ProStores, PayPal and Amazon Seller Central...so we'll be watching how many merchats ask us for post Checkout by Amazon fulfillment.

I hope Amazon launches this service; Paypal needs a serious competitor. There's a reason they have a bad reputation when it comes to customer service.
The moment Paypal starts losing customers to Amazon is the moment they'll start taking customer service seriously.

This is very good news for people who use Paypal.

Well... the market is moving and some big players want to grow it's reveneues... and after read all comments, I think the market really need a new Paypal like as real competitor.

My entire industry (RMT) is upset with paypal and is ready for alternatives. Paypal just isn't safe, we want banking by REAL banking services that are finally secure and safe to use. Paypal causes us to lose thousands every year and puts many of us out of business. There's plenty of horror stories.

I have used PayPal for years with my eBay account, selling and buying. While I have personally had no major problems I have heard numerous horror stories about them. I dont keep very much money in my PayPal accounts at one time, because they can close your account and freeze your money up for weeks and months for whatever reason they want! They are not regulated like banks are. For those who dont know, PayPal is owned by eBay. I welcome Amazon's entry if it happens. Competition is good for consumers!!!

I echo the sentiments of those above. Paypal's business practices have had me screaming. I have been successfully using Google's Checkout for over a year now. I would hope to get a reasonable costing transparent checkout API to process my sales, without having to create an account though. Because of the way Google is setup, I can't track my conversions for my Adwords because they won't setup a return page after a successful sale.

Amazon, we welcome your entry into payment gateway arena. Help to keep costs down, please.

I saw the amazon payment stuff the other month. It looks like a good idea from what I could tell. Our programmer said implementing it along side paypal would not be much of a problem - just another api.

i think paypal has pissed off enough people for this service to take off in a lovely manner. i'm hoping it will do that a company like paypal eventually goes under. i think just about everyone i know who's used paypal has had a negative experience.

I'm welcoming it at this point. Paypal just pissed me off. I have to FAX them my private information to spend/send/receive MY money.

All because I didn't login for a while. Stupid. I have my information, my password, everything.
