It will be interesting to see if any of the other newcomers to the space are able to stick...kwippy.com, etc...and if google will get anything out of their purchase of jaiku.

I found out about it through the blogosphere, and since I abhor Twitter and users of it, I'm sticking around, too.

I think the biggest point is being missed...there are no desktop applications like there are for Twitter. I never go to the Twitter site because I have Twhirl open 24/7. There also seems to be a new app out for Twitter every week.

I want to see these stats after someone develops a TweetDeck or a Twhirl for Plurk.

Firstly, Quantcast is as useless as tits on a bull unless it's being directly tracked. Secondly, you've take the surge point from Alexa. Draw the line from the bottom of the hump, or even the third week in June, and you'll get flat or even trending up :-) To be fair, compared to many of these services, a solid chunk of people staid on Plurk, so they deserve at least some credit for that. Most of them flatline or tank in a much more dramatic way

PLURKfox, a Firefox extension, is under development. Expect the first release shortly.

I hate to bash your stats but... of course I am in the industry myself as well as a plurk user. A plurk user who spends 10-20hrs a day live on plurk twitter and hosts of other social sites. Plurk has dropped from the recent spike from twitter users but the user base is nearly uncountable using your stats.

Plurk more than any other site I have seen has a true global balanced membership. This combined with the "new toy/old toy" effect has cooled the level of use. The fear of 'karma' also has calmed down many highly active users.

Plurk may not be the dominant player but they are a leader. Both in concept and forward looking growth. Twitter has, just as so many before, topped out.

The drab un-human feel of most micro-blog sites is fast becoming an outdated model used for only singular purposes. Plurk set a new standard for all.

Try checking out Compete's new traffic numbers as Plurk was 4th on June's list of fastest growing sites at 4561% and actually had more visitors than the beloved FriendFeed.

Plurk is gaining audience but they have yet to catch Friendfeed in terms of unique visitors. For June, FF was at 407k and Plurk at 328k. Will be interesting to see which becomes the fave amongst users. (Both have a long way to go to catch the market leader Twitter, at 1.8 million per month)

There's one active Mashable staffer at Plurk and that would be me. So um, yeah, add me. Thanks. ;)

I am both a Tweeter and a Plurker, but I have to say, my Plurk Family are people that you end up caring about quite a bit IRL. The format, the threading, the more intimate nature of Plurk is what drives us followers to be "incredibly engaged" and "almost unbelievably so".

I go to Twitter to see what people are talking about in general, but I go to Plurk to be with my family of Plurkers. I know things about my PlurkFam, like who has had knee problems and had to go for an MRI, in addition to the normal stuff, like what film are people watching off of Netflix.

I sent me Plurk friends Christmas cards in the snail mail, and got many back too. You can't beat a Social Media community that facilitates people to be this close to each other.
