I'm actually shocked that out of 6,000 follows, only 134 reciprocated.

Whenever I receive a notice that someone is following me, I always check their profile first before following back. If I see that their following-to-followers(f2f) ratio is completely out of whack, I won't follow.

I can't tell you how many times I'll come across a "spam" Twitter account and see that they have a 1:5 f2f ratio or better.

Sometimes we just can't say no to @porn.

That is why twitter tools were developed, to help you keep track of all those people. I think if you have a plan it can be great, if you are on twitter just to be on twitter then of course 1000 people doesnt make sense. The truth is, people have lives and they dont all twitter at the same time. Some of the funniest or educational twitters come only once a day.

Michael, I've actually gone the next step - I block any "bogus followers". If something/one is following thousands of people, why do I want it to follow me too? "Click - Block - Plonk!"
