Mashable - The Social Media Guide: The IPL Fan Club: A Social Network For Indian Cricket Fans

That's actually a pretty smart idea, isn't it? Up till now, I haven't seen any 'regional' social networks take off in a big way. If this one works, you could end up with a dozen big social networks in India alone, focused on things like Cricket, Bollywood, and so on.

Nice to find post for IPL on Mashable.. IPL is hot in India these days and we got a chance to watch it live in stadium last week.

    Entertainment rules.

check out Indyarocks.com - a social network around Indian entertainment. This site was reviewed by Mashable last year. Those guys have been expanding steadily on the entertainment aspects and have been seeing wonderful growth. (check out Alexa. They are ranked among 1500 globally).

I am sure IPLfanclub will see a good growth if executed well.

While the IPL Fan club is doing an interesting job, it may make more sense to throw in the concept where users are already present. Check out http://cafe.ibibo.com/ipl/ipl_default.aspx for an example. Here, the promise of an appearance on TV to talk to their favourite team has created a vibrant community of cricket lovers.

Well this site is now www.thecricfanclub.com
Dont understand why they changed there website and brand name.

They did a good job during IPL but chaning it to cricket will surely reduce their brand value and popularity.
