I also came across one interesting article which beautifully describes how to start off with social media.

It might interest you. Would like you to go through it once. Here is the link -
http://www.webguild.org/200...

Re: The Evolution of the Social Media API

The greatest benefit of Facebook is that it has many groups on the site that you can join. So if you are interested in Chicago Cubs you can research Chicago Cubs in the groups section and you will be able to find friends on there that like the Cubs. This is just one example, I know that you can join groups of your favorite football team, television show, or whatever you want for the most part! If you can't find a group for your interest, you can simply create one!

James
http://EmailCharger.com

Re: The Evolution of the Social Media API

API's are beautiful because they allow developers to create an application for a service that is huge. Gigya is aggregating the social APIs for Facebook Connect, MSID, and Sign in with Twitter, as well as the authentication APIs for the webmail OpenID providers. First major implementation is live event for TNT.tv for the NBA Eastern Conference Finals. You can check it out here when the games are going on
http://www.tnt.tv/sports/nb...

Re: The Evolution of the Social Media API

API means Application Programming Interface, not Application Platform Interface.

If APIs were targeted towards towards non-developers/programmers then it wouldn't be an API anymore, it would have to be called something else.

Another correction, Alexa had APIs before Amazon acquired them.

I am surprised you have not mentioned Yahoo, they have lots of good APIs, better than the rubbish Google calls an API.

Re: The Evolution of the Social Media API

Since I'm completely non-techie, are there people/companies out there that create these API's, and how much would it cost to hire someone to create an API?

Re: The Evolution of the Social Media API

Social Media API should be targeted at non-developers with tools that are as simple to use as email. I think when we get there - then we'll truly see the emergence of Web 3.0

my 2 cents

Re: The Evolution of the Social Media API

This a great article, I've been really considering putting together a facebook app recently and the more I read about convergence of social media the quicker I want it done.
