And maybe I'm weird (ok, not maybe: I am) but I love listening to oldies stations! haha. It's cool to be vintage these days, a lot of kids jump on the bandwagon.

Because, not counting the last two months, I've never heard their recordings used in films or media --just once that I can remember, a Nike ad long time ago. And it cost them something like $10 million an arm and a leg for the rights. Since the band predates music videos, there is no MTV/VH1 exposure. That leaves oldies stations which young people aren't going to listen to. That's how I arrive at underexposure.

If they are still influencing a young audience then it must be parents (more like grandparents) doing a good job of education, and if that's the case I'll stand corrected on my last sentence. Perhaps what's really happening is the underexposure is causing ME to forget about them, which I find distressing.

Very interesting. Cool concept with the apple and USB drive. I'm glad the beatles are popular again but I don't want them to over-saturate the market, like Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe stuff kind of has.

Terrible timing. It's cute and clever but what youngster picked Dec. 8 for the North American release date? December 8 is the 29th anniversary of the day that John Lennon was murdered. That's a horrible day to pick. It's not so much that it's tasteless as that it creates the potential for the crime to overshadow the genius of John Lennon and his accomplishments during his life. People like the murderer (whose name I am leaving out on purpose) should not be given any unnecessary opportunities to feel that the crime they committed made them important.

It's...interesting, but I'm wondering if people wouldn't still rather have the hardcopies in their hands, the actual albums. Usually with huge artists, that's the way it is, no?

Agreed. The Beatles changed the way a lot of artists do music, period. I mean, who hasn't heard Oasis be compared to the Beatles? We know who they are and we know what they did. I wonder why gwoodard thinks that they're being lost to a generation?

This is surprisingly a pretty good deal. We're talking 14 albums in two formats plus 13 mini-documentary films and assorted ephemera. That's actually not that bad of a price.

This is not true. Many young people still listen to them, and they are still selling tons of records these days! My boyfriend, who is 25, cannot get enough Beatles. I think they are one of very few bands who have gone cross-generation.

Because of this and other related nonsense, the band has been underexposed for so long that history is being written largely without them. They are being lost to a generation.
