Mashable - The Social Media Guide: T-Mobile Down Nationwide

  • jsauce01 · 1 month ago
i believe it is because of the iphones, the iphone baseband 5.11.07 or whatever it is , well the new unlock was released yesterday by geohot named blacksn0w. it allows people with iphones to unlock their phones for tmobile and other carriers and has been much anticipated. i think it is quite a coincidence that the day the new unlock comes out that sooooooooooooo many people were waiting for, happens to be the day tmobiles network goes down!!! apple said the first time people began jailbreak/unlocking iphones... that they didnt want them to do it cause some day it could bring the whole network down.. in which it seems has happen, hopefully the tmobiile tech guys will have it all figured out in no time..

If you wanna know T-Mobile sucks; there is an app for that!!!!! so inconveniencing
  • cso · 1 month ago
They are running into these problems because of digression. Cell phone companies like T-Mobile use the "Pole system", or Tower system. This is where the person on the top (Via turning the phone off and on again) creates a state of disrepair. Receiving and calls out will not work if you keep it on indefinitely.

This is a feature built into their system so they can tell you that your phone is old and feel free to purchase another.

This is only one circumstance that they have elevated through their system with plenty of more bugs.

    Good luck T-Mobile members
  • missy · 1 month ago
LMFAO!! What ever dude i have had T-mobile for 5 years now (paying there cheap prices) with no problems at all till now. ((I think i have saved over $1000 bucks compared to you)) so that alone is worth this one day of problems.. He he. Its call technology and its not perfect nor will it ever be! Now when your service has any problems witch it will, Shit on you!
  • abutterflyloves · 1 month ago
You go missy! I have T-mobile service on three phones for two years. I have a great family plan, like no dropped calls, and a low bill because of Fav5 and unlimited family text. No doubt I was a little pissed on the hour ride home, but happy when I got home to know it was only an outage, and not my blackberry. I was even able to sign into MSN Messenger, and connected with my daughter to make sure she was safe. So I had no voice or text, but IM worked. With all the chaos in this world, a major carrier has one issue, and the world freaks out?? I would rather have a quiet ride home with the radio/cd player, than go to At&t for their spotty 3G coverage.. OOPS.. haha!

gso ....you're full of bull-caca...Don't tell us about t-mobile requests of new phone purchases...c'mon...i have tested blackberry pearl 8100, a motorola razor v3 AND AN IPHONE 3GS and the outage is still an outage. Definition of outage, blackout or any other words begining with out= means that you're out of the game....for an indefinite timeframe, so...we t-mobile members...will endure this one but not several more. not only att, t-mobile (now oh-immobile !), verizon and sprint-nextel are on the market....there are several young companies ( aka '' we're hungry for your business).
    God Bless
  • Luke · 1 month ago
I experienced it this evening when neither my wife nor I could call each other or receive texts. I tried calling T-mobile and was cut off and then tried another call to my wife and it worked. The outage lasted more than an hour on our lines, but it seems to be working now....
  • Blake · 1 month ago
The outage is still going on. This is hurting my dad's business!
  • Ray · 1 month ago

  • Guest · 1 month ago
You confirmed it! A few of my friends just emailed me saying they called and just got busy signals.
  • Jeevan · 1 month ago
Yep, and for some reason T-Mobile can't play a recorded message when you call into their customer service line and instead you have to waste your time and go through a dozen automated questions before you get a live person that says "Oh sorry. Nationwide outage".

You would think they would learn how to handle things like this after their recent Sidekick fiasco.

    611 is a free call.
  • den32 · 1 month ago
I can't even get 611 to work from my tmobile phone or a lan line. wtf.
  • FW · 1 month ago
Lan line?!? 611 is for T-Mobile service. It's not going to work from a LAND line, dolt.
  • Jeevan · 1 month ago
Is there any relevance in your post to what I said? Or are you just stating a random factoid?

(And yes I was aware of 611 and the toll free number)
  • Devils Advocate · 2 weeks ago
Yeah, last summer I went overseas with my G1, which usually works fine everywhere. As soon as I got there (Singapore) the phone showed that it picked up the local providers but there were no signal bars and I could not make calls like last time.

Called customer service when I got back; they said "Oh, we updated something and that re-set your option to use the phone overseas. You had to call us and re-set that function." Oh really? I said. "Um, how many f-ing ways do you have to get a hold of me? Text? Email? Voice? and I have to call YOU to re-set something that should never have to be set in the first place! WTF?!?" The guy was like: "Hm, a text message - that's a good idea; not sure why they don't do that...."

HOPELESS customer service if they can't grasp something so basic.

It was down for near two hours. Looks like it is back up in Chicago. MUST turn your phone off and back on.
  • stephanator · 1 month ago
I'm in chicago, and it's been out for me since this afternoon. It's still out-- no texting, no 611, no nothing! I went to the chat thing on tmobile.com to ask wtf was going on, and that's when they told me. THEY'RE ONLY GOING TO GIVE YOU AN EFFING $5 CREDIT!!!!
  • Evelyn Rodriguez · 1 month ago
It is ridiculous I have been without service for over an hour. My husband has been trying to communicate with me during this time, and we get either the busy signal or the call drops. I also tried calling 611 Customer Service for TMobile, and had the same thing happen. Now it says that all circuits are busy!!! I bet they are, and who knows when I will be able to make a call. This is unbelievable!
  • Mark Jonson · 1 month ago
Well, that's what you get when you pay for second-rate service. There's an old saying that says "you get what you pay for." If you want to know your service is going to work, that's when you pay the extra $10/month and switch to Verizon or AT&T. If you're too cheap, then pay $30/month for Sprint or T-Mobile and deal with the fact that they have no signal anywhere, and if you do actually find a signal it seems there will just be a nationwide outage on their network.
  • C. F. · 1 month ago
You're a moron. No company is perfect and I've had MANY occurences where my T-Mo service was working and my friend's AT&T phone had no bar or just 1 that would disappear. At work, I can continue my calls while in the elevator and they lose their calls.
I believe in getting for what you pay but I refuse to bend over for AT&T. They're a rip-off.
  • Murphy · 1 month ago
I totally agree. I have been a t-mobile customer for many years and this is the first outage of this magnitude for me ever. Colorado (northern) has been down since 1:30 pm Mountain. It is very aggravating and I did contact t-mobile and was told nationwide could be affected up to 24 hours but it is sporadic for different people. I was told to turn my phone off and back on periodically. It is now 7pm mountain and still not working. Something huge but I could not get any info on what was going on, only that it is their top priority...well duh, but I still would not switch to another carrier especially At&T.
  • D S · 1 month ago
Agreed, C.F. I've been a customer for about 14 years. Followed from Aerial, to Voicestream, and now T-Mobile. This is the first time I've been without service in all of those years. I still have my original plan... $50/month, 1000 anytime mins., per-second billing, unlimited text, and first incoming minute is free. I keep looking, but can't find anything like that on AT&T.
  • hdopson · 1 month ago
What a stupid comment. My T-mo service has been great and it has nothing to do with price, I pay the same for unlimited service as you do on either Verizon or At&T.

i am sorry to break it to you but i live in miami and i had sprint and at&t before. I get better reception with TMOBILE than anything else. At&t is just a name there is areas where the calls do not come in. My sister had verizon and inside her house she had no service and i did. What u stated is a opinion not a fact. That can happen to any service company.

I am currently unable to call any of my family; we have a family plan. SMS texting is not working either. Data services on my Blackberry are working, and my email is being transferred. I can occasionally call out to other numbers, but not 100%. I just talked to a customer support rep and she did confirm a national network outage and they are working it. Not much we can do at this end. They are giving me a credit for the outage on the next bill.

Ha ha T-Mobile! T-Mobile screwed me and billed me for $750 of Canadian roaming when I was in Vermont. I am a formet ATTWS Tech and I know all about phantom roaming. They wouldn't credit the bill - never been to Canada in my life - I was a flight attendant and in Vermont. Quickly ported before my number went into collections and have been a happy Verizon customer since. Could get ahold of any T-Mobile people all day today - just in the last 10 minutes I was able to call the 2 T-Mobile people I was trying to reach. You get what you pay for, T-Mobile customers! Call, complain, get a credit or get them to let you out of your contract and switch to Verizon. Do not let them talk you into a new piece of equipment and a new 2 year contract.

I'm in New Jersey, I am using the T-Mobile G1, it seems right around 5:30 I had issues with no service. When I went to manually search and register on T-mobile, a message came up saying my sim card is not able to register on this network haha. I got my service back but I am not getting texts at the right time, and my MyFaves app just dissapeared.... hmm
  • Lindsey · 1 month ago
My contract with T-Mobile is up in February, but maybe this fiasco will get me out earlier. Started off with a Sidekick LX back in Feb of last year and it was truly garbage. Everything on the phone was laggy. Lack of applications sucked too. Upgraded to an iPhone this past Feb and I've been using that on T-Mobile without any problems.... even though I constantly get their free text messages regarding Sidekick issues to this very day, and yes... I've told them that I'm on an iPhone. Paying around $30 a month for unlimited data too! I'm paying a little over $78 bucks a month for 300 anytime minutes, unlimited nights and weekends, and unlimited calling to my "5 faves." Of course that includes the data plan that comes with unlimited text but when you break it down, that's a ridiculous bill! Almost $80 bucks for barely any daytime minutes.

I live in California and the only call I was able to make was to my husband and he is on AT&T but all I can access right now from my iPhone is apps and data stuff. Can't receive calls nor can I make any. To add insult to injury, our Comcast home phone service is down too so I'm sitting here alone in our apartment with no phone. Thankfully I still have cable TV and the internet (obviously) otherwise I'd be losing my mind! Xbox Live... here I come!

Down for two hours, so far, in Vicksburg, MS. Calls to other cell phones fail. Call to VoIP phone at home works. SMS fail, email works. Different for buddy with same phone and service. After a long time on hold go to a service person. Global outage, no ETA of service being back up. Different issues in different places. Said ICM maps show massive outages. Silly me. I thought they were a cell phone company. Does this mean that I will get a visit from Catherine Zeta-Jones?

Yeah, it's accurate, I can't do crap on my phone, that's a HUGE plus for tmobile, I've paid twice for my bill this month, have limited data from THEM losing it and now, I can't use my phone at all! Fucking. Perfect.

My T-Mobile is still down. It has been down for over 3 hours.

For you people who slam T-Mobile, I have had every major service (Sprint, verizon, nextel, cingular, AT&T and cricket). My favorite is T-Mobile, hands down. Less dropped calls and better reception in my area.

As a Realtor, phone reception is very important. My friends and I play mobile horse (pick areas of the city and make a 2 minute call) frequently. My T-mobile phone is #1.
  • oddwala · 1 month ago
You know, I really do wonder if this has anything to do with the very sane pricing and lack of contracts that t-mobile is rolling out. I'm sure there is plenty of big money that has a strong interest in giving t-mobile a black eye. We're already getting all these "get what you pay for" thought into people's minds..

Here's a question for the techs at T-Mobile You call the Behold a smartphone. Why are you not smart enough to fix it. I pay my bill and my Service goes out..Maybe I should not pay my bill next time. T-mobile is a joke they advertise half the price because you spend half the time on the phone complaining that your service is out. Outages Nationwide and no credit to the bill what a crock of S..t.
  • ashley · 1 month ago
This is RIDICULOUS. I can't send texts, but I've received 3 of them. I can't connect to T-Mobile help and support. I can't call. I can't receive calls. Can confirm that T-Mo indicates outage started at 6:36PM PST, affects voice, data and SMS text services nationwide. No ETA from T-Mo as of 8:30 PM. As of 9:10 PM the Los Angeles market is still down hard, although T-Mo is trying to indicate it's a "intermittant" problem.

I travel overseas alot and dont bring an international phone or plan with me, I dont want to roam, etc, lost, etc....I always come back within two weeks and I plug my phone in and get my missed text. there is never an issue. I was gone for two weeks in Peru, came back plugged my phone and only text from halloween on, previous two weeks gone, not only that the phone I charged the whole time i was gone was dead in two hours and all calls kept dropping five to ten minutes into each call.....ive lost alot of information and everytime I put my info back in the phone it gets erased completely everything including call log, messages, text etc and address book

    IM livid!

Tmobile is experiencing "service interruptions" in all markets. Calls from some T-Mobile phones as well as the news coverage, confirm that there is a problem. Some customers may have signal bars, calls from their phones usually result in a busy signal or a disconnection. Nothing is posted on tmobile.com or mytmobile.com, however they are nice enough to provide a LINK on how to report outages or service disruptions.

its that iphone hacker from over seas do it .. they were on T-M.. lol if it was that easy to bring a cell network down it would happen long ago.. sound like some one did the wrong upgrade at the system major hub and blew it.

Wow. All you people whining about this as if there are no other forms of communication. You're all a bunch self important SOB's. It's not a right to have a cell phone and while it's not a brand new technology...$hit happens. What the hell would you little twits bitch about if you couldn't waste your life on cell phones, facebook, myspace etc???

T-Mobile Blows anyway. This whole outage thing was the last straw for me to switch to AT&T and finally get my I-Phone!

This will not be good for T-Mob :/ Glad I'm not on that network! LAWL

I fortunately had no emergencies during the outage. That would certainly taint my perspective. Among the three providers that I've used I have had the best service and the best customer service with T-mobile.

While unquestionably frustrating I for one have not included the temporary loss of cell service as one of my silent screams!

Settle the hell down people, it was only for half a day. These kinds of things happen, you all take for granted that you have the right to 24/7 service now a days. But I do believe all T-Mobile users should be credited for the time paid without service.

T-Mobile is just awful... for those t-mobile customers that need a place to "bitch" about them, http://www.muttr.com there's simply no better site.
