I guess this is because many companies are doing advertsing in facebook for their customers, but do not pay facebook anything. the solution to this are advertising platform like commentino that have created a real marketplace that pay the sites (e.g. facebook) when they advertise there. (I am working for commentino - http://snipr.com/n4w41 )

Re: Stats: How Much Money are Facebook and MySpace Making?

I'd like to know what sort of advertising revenue ning are making, with their 1 million networks they have

Or, for that matter SocialGO, who I see a banner ad on this site for

Re: Stats: How Much Money are Facebook and MySpace Making?

I'd like to know what sort of advertising revenue ning are making, with their 1 million networks they have

Or, for that matter SocialGO, who I see a banner ad on this site for

Re: Stats: How Much Money are Facebook and MySpace Making?

Does anyone know what their profit after tax is?

Re: Stats: How Much Money are Facebook and MySpace Making?

Facebook is definetly going to surpass myspace in terms of future earnings.

Re: Stats: How Much Money are Facebook and MySpace Making?

what a surprise! A ton of FB's traffic surplus over MySpace is photo sharing and casual gaming, which provides much less ad revenue per page than other parts of those properties.

Re: Stats: How Much Money are Facebook and MySpace Making?

I think MySpace is more spicy than facebook. Their music players on the profile pages and more access for the members to change graphical outlook of their pages make their pages more interesting. Otherwise Facebook has a lot more functionality.

Probably Facebook will catchup with the earnings as I think its growing fast. Lastly I think we should not worry about how much they are making out of it, what we should worry about is that how much do we make out of our profiles on these social sites. As at the end of the day, its the users, who are populating these sites and putting up all the content.

I think these social networks, should share the fortune with their members and pay them something from what they earning. Is that a possibility?

Re: Stats: How Much Money are Facebook and MySpace Making?

Mashable please update the myspace logo, it doesn't have the place for friends slogan at the bottom any more.

Re: Stats: How Much Money are Facebook and MySpace Making?

Myspace's dominance of Social Media budget is mostly a result of Movie / Music ads. Personally I feel Facebook + YouTube are a much better use of our budget's dollars and opted out of a Myspace campaign this year.

Re: Stats: How Much Money are Facebook and MySpace Making?

I have profiles on both social sites and I NEVER even look at them. The sad thing about social media is that regardless of how a site innovates, once the masses join it becomes what myspace is.

Re: Stats: How Much Money are Facebook and MySpace Making?

Great earnings. thats very huge money :)

Re: Stats: How Much Money are Facebook and MySpace Making?

what about profit? nobody care?

Re: Stats: How Much Money are Facebook and MySpace Making?

If that facebook number is at all real, that's scary for them. They've doubled (tripled?) their traffic and users over the past year+ and can only eke out 10% increase in revenue? Wow. To justify their valuation they'd need to expand to encompass all the traffic on the internet.

Re: Stats: How Much Money are Facebook and MySpace Making?

I disagree with these projections - Facebook's growth has been exponential, and in turn, drives up advertising revenue. It seems eMarketer is basing these figures off what they think they know ("known" variables) rather than common sense.

Re: Stats: How Much Money are Facebook and MySpace Making?

As long as facebook generates ad revenue from "christian dating" and other lame companies, they will not surpass Myspace in ad revenue. Larger companies seem to be somewhat hesitant to put their dollars into facebook ads. Most of the ads on the site look like spam - stuff that I would NEVER click on. I'm not sure why this is, but it's a pretty big fail for whoever facebook employs to sell these things.

@benwhat

Re: Stats: How Much Money are Facebook and MySpace Making?

I use both almost every day, and still see much more advertising on MySpace. Plus, MySpace still has the Google search deal, which we hear may not be renewed. If Facebook loads up numerous intrusive ads or apps, there may be a user rebellion and migration elsewhere (Ning, Twitter, something not invented yet, etc.). Plus, their ham-handed approach of shutting down users in Iran like Saaed Valadbaygi's first account has enraged many. So MySpace may be imploding, or about to, but Facebook faces many challenges of their own.

Re: Stats: How Much Money are Facebook and MySpace Making?

this is huge money :) i never thought facebook would be behind myspaces

Re: Stats: How Much Money are Facebook and MySpace Making?

I thought Facebook was earning more than MySpace.
