Please contact the application author for assistance." Any ideas??

Re: Skimmer: Visual Desktop App for Tracking Your Favorite Social Sites

I am totally onboard with the vision - would be so cool, but it just doesn't do it just yet -kinda clunky and disorganized. Keep going guys - first version of windows wasn't great either.

Re: Skimmer: Visual Desktop App for Tracking Your Favorite Social Sites

This app is sexy as hell and, I'm afraid, a possible tweetdeck killer by offering more features in a more simplified, elegant interface. I'm replaceing TD with Skimmer.

Re: Skimmer: Visual Desktop App for Tracking Your Favorite Social Sites

Whether this is fully functional or not, I think the effort is a wake up call to the industry. I was trying to get Fallon to do something similar two years ago. Agencies, on the digital or traditional side, are not fully embracing the available mediums. Digital agencies say they are the wave of the future and are more than production companies. Traditional agencies say they are integrated. Neither is really true to date. This is the second effort, first was by a digital shop in CO with a different product, by an agency that is actually an attempt at both. Good for you Fallon. Good for you.

Re: Skimmer: Visual Desktop App for Tracking Your Favorite Social Sites

Skimmer looks lovely, but I think I'll shy away from it from the point of view of the Ts & Cs. Not too keen on Air applications anyway.

I wrote a related post here on Skimmer, lifestreaming, and encouraging behaviour change if anyone's interested:
http://designandbehaviour.r...

Thanks for the article.

Re: Skimmer: Visual Desktop App for Tracking Your Favorite Social Sites

i wish it had tumblr support

Re: Skimmer: Visual Desktop App for Tracking Your Favorite Social Sites

same problem. don't get it

Re: Skimmer: Visual Desktop App for Tracking Your Favorite Social Sites

Visual flow is terrible. Huge avatar blocks on the left are disassociated from the messages on the right. Typography and color scheme contribute to a very hard-to-read (and ironically) hard-to-skim mess. No ability to view replies in threaded form. No obvious way to categorize your contacts to use the category filters.

Sorry, needs a lot of work before this is ready to compete. Take a look at Tweetdeck for grouping/typography/layout ideas that work. Take a look at Twittilator Pro (iPhone App) for how to handle threading.

Plus you need to incorporate some trending views if you want this to be the home-base client for users. Right now nothing beats a combo of apps on your iPhone/iPod touch. TweetDeck is the only desktop client that comes close but they need to add ability to view threaded replies.

Re: Skimmer: Visual Desktop App for Tracking Your Favorite Social Sites

what kind of problem are you having? i was able to install and load it on my os x machine using firefox 3.1b3, firefox 3.0.7, and safari 4.

not saying you're not having a problem, just saying what i'm using to get it working ;)

Re: Skimmer: Visual Desktop App for Tracking Your Favorite Social Sites

This seems to be just what have been looking for!
