Verizon's stellar network is one of the reasons I haven't jumped ship, although I'd REALLY like to...
I've been with ATT since Bellsouth and then Cingular. But I'm gone if Verizon gets the phone.
i think i would consider ditching AT&T for Verizon if the option were available.
Crazy. A number of countries are CDMA only and therefore iPhone or other AT&T and T-Mobile devices would not work there. Also VZW has phones that will work in Japan which uses a different frequency not addressed by standard GSM hardware including the iPhone.
Too many antennae to make a dual CDMA, UTMS version?
A "worldwide" LTE phone would be LTE+HSPA/UMTS/EDGE/GPRS+EVDORevA/EVDORev0/1xRTT
What a nightmare!
That still wouldnt work "worldwide." The only phone that could come close to being truly "worldwide" would be a satellite phone and even that will not work absolutely everywhere. I do understand what you meant though. But the only radios that phone manufacturers would include in a "global phone" would be gsm, evdoRevA/Rev0, 1xRTT and the upcoming LTE. The rest would just be a waste of space as very few users would travel to countries that use such primitive networks. And if they did it would make more sense for that person to buy a cheap pre-payed phone for the durration of their trip.
That being said, the iPhone is a terrible phone. I would not get one if Verizon gave one to me with money back. They have about the worst reception of any phone out there. I know plenty of people that cannot get service while standing next to their friend who can barely make calls on their blackberry or any other AT&T phone while i can get online on my Verizon phone. if you want an iPhone so bad buy an iTouch and a cheap-o Verizon phone

The iPhone is subsidized here to make it affordable, thus so many people can afford it and use the incredible data-hungry and overload AT&T. AT&T's Edge network has wide coverage which, in all actually is atleast as fast if not faster than Verizon's 3G. Verizon want to control too much and Apple wants to market their phone. That's why things didn't work out with them originally and why AT&T has the contract. That and the fact that Verizon's CDMA. CDMA has an edge on GSM as far as call quality but Verizon's a newcomer to the GSM/LTE/4G system. That's why they have to start from scratch so early. They have to replace their entire network.
Also a CDMA tower has a 50mile range, as opposed to 30miles for GSM, which might explain the network problems people are having with AT&T. I've heard many complaints about T-M
I've never been dropped on a phone call in 6 years, and just today 3 times! Balls!
And the other thing is, side by side, Verizon's internet is slower than Sprint's. My wife and I both have HTC phones and compared YouTube in 8 states from Washington to Florida, and up to Connecticut, Verizon never was faster than Sprint. And, one thing that really confused me, we were in Powell, Cody, and Yellowstone, Wyoming; Sprint's map says they have no internet anywhere near there, but it worked on my phone (maybe they have roaming for internet too). Verizon's map on the other hand, claims internet all over there, and it did not work where their maps says it should.
verizon here i come
In contrast, the largest network provider may simply be focusing on their core competency, which is their network, rather than having major interest in the faster growing technology of smartphones. However, with their offering of $200 HTC TP2, which their competitors are selling for $350, and their newest motoDroid, it is quite evident that they want to be a major player in the smartphone arena. If Verizon does get the iPhone next year it will be interesting to see how well At&t's network will improve.
Oh and how is it in Apple's MO to make a splash in 4G technology? When I hear or see Apple, I think "when was the last time they were a first mover"? Not sure if I'm correct but I'm positive Russia would welcome Apple with open arms if they do decide to create a 4G device.
The only thing that will determine if verizon will get an iphone is if the two company's can stick there ego's aside. The reason verizon doesnt get all the cool smartphone is because there standards are to high and they stick there nose to deep into the phone manf. business and try to control everything. Hopefully they are on the right track with the androids. But as all of you probably know only time will tell.
In the UK it has already been announced that O2 UK's exclusive iPhone contract to be the sole network carrier in the UK has expired after some 24 months. It has also been announced that two other networks, Orange and Vodafone, will be carrying the iPhone, just before and just after Christmas respectively. This is great news for both consumers as well as Apple who will continue to increase market share.
My cousin who is already on a long term contract with Vodafone is now considering getting an iPhone which was not a viable option for him before. He rang up customer services to enquire about an upgrade to the iPhone and they told him he should wait for the iPhone 4G which will be unveiled at Apple's annual WWDC 2010. Rumour?
Honestly I want to see one of the smaller guys like Cricket or MetroPCS get the 4G iPhone ( metro is already working on their LTE 4G ) just to stick it to the oversized conglomertes.
I am an iPhone owner, and I would rather go without cell phone service then join Verizon's network.
2) LTE phones are far in the future. Apple is NOT a cellular tech leader. They will likely trail. Cutting edge LTE will be great for throughput but Apple has already shown that they prefer more stable RAN technologies with their iPhone strategy. (Now a LTE macbook or the like is fine)
3) the DroidDoes and Map ads are making any near term launch very suspect
I haven't heard anything about other carriers. I'd have to wait and see. That said, I do not have any foreseeable plans on leaving Verizon.
It'll be interesting to see how this unfolds!
So if there were an iPhone that worked with Verizon, I would definitely check it out.
If this is pans out, perhaps and iPhone in my future.
only reason i don't have one is i don't like at&t!
they have done nothing but raise my origional plan several times.
I would have stayed with Verizon since they bought out ALTEL, but Verizon was unable for some reason to transfer my existing cell phone number.
I purchased my iPhone in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and the tech who sold me my iPhone did not even come close to the truth in regards to the capabilities such as no roaming.
I sadly bought into their international plan because AT&T since I was in Europe for a month. AT&T told me I would have no problems in Europe, but i spent at least 12 to 15 hours on the phone to technical support due to my inability to receive or send emails via my iPhone.
An iPhone for Verizon would undoubtedly be one of the best things that Verizon could do for their business.
I would not normally believe that the iPhone is expanding beyond AT&T, but I really believe they need to watch out for Android and the Pre. As an app developer, I know there are more intricate apps that can be developed for those phones than the iPhone. If the iPhone does not go to other carriers soon, the difference between that device and its competitors will continue to diminish. And in the U.S., business users will go to a Verizon Android device, and people on budgets (who live within 10 miles of a highway) will go to a Sprint Android or Palm device. Although, I don't really expect the Pre to make waves until the Pre 4G gets released.
Ericcson Walkman 760a has on it. Also, due to dropped calls, not receiving calls, delayed calls and messages, no bars available, sorry connection problems-please try later, and not
being able to connect to the internet, certainly I am interested in another carrier. I have been a longtime Cingular/AT&T Wireless customer, as my only carrier, however, I am just not
getting the service from my cellphone that I should be receiving. If you want new customers and are able to offer me an enticing package, I would consider bringing my family package with three phones to Verizon. Thank you for the opportunity to comment.
Sincerely,
Barbara Burrus
But here is the main question.:
Would current iPhone users be able to use their current iPhone on Verizon 4G.
Or would we have to purchase a brand new iPhones all over again.????
Thats the main question.
I would switch to Verizon either way.
Just want to know.
Also I know that as soon as Verizon has and sells the iPhone for their networks.
AT&T will be bleeding customers by the millions.
AT&T sucks, their customer service sucks.
And most of all their PRICES are through the roof.
I am currently paying 135.00 a month for services with ATT.
I have the unlimited package.
Here is the licker, I only make 3 to 5 calls a month if that,
and many times I only make 2 calls a month.
and I am paying 135 dollars per month.
this sucks and it killing me.
I sure hope Verizon has a outrageous crazy super saver deal.
something like 60 dollars a month and that would get you unlimited service package.
They would get every AT&T customer in less than 1 week.
if they gave a package out like that.
I know for sure, AT&T is seeing their tomb stone right now.
and are dredding the day when iPhone goes to Verizon.
That would be the day I walk into a AT&T store and tell everyone in that store
to go F*&%^ themselfs and to cancel my account and stick my middle finger at them.
I can't wait until that day.
I HATE YOU AT&T.....!!
HOPE YOU DIE AND CLOSE YOUR BUSINESS.....!!
If Verizon offers the iPhone, I will gladly sign up and extend my 2 year contract.
If Verizon gets the iPhone (which I pray they will), I'm game!
I am considering a full retail buy of a BB Tour on vzn just so I can be contract free & buy a vzn iphone in 2010 if it comes out. Apple/Vzn...don't let us down, there are a lot of us mac/verizon fan boys that'd buy a vzn iphone the first day it was out!
Our plan is due for renewal in Dec, but under the terms of the agreement, we're able to upgrade our phones every 20 months with a new 2-year agreement. So, we're able to get new phones now. But, due to the flurry of rumors, we're waiting to see if the iPhone becomes available on the Verizon network before we get new phones. Hopefully our wait will not be fruitless.
Also, I was in Los Angeles last week and I was dropping more calls than I have ever seen. AT&T needs to make some vast improvements if they want to keep their customers.
Wife and two college kids would do it if I purchase the iPhone for them.
Grow son would do like me.
I hate, hate, HHHHAAAATTTTEEEE AT&T and want to come back home to Verizon (why did I ever leave!), but as I'm a self-confessed slave to my precious iPhone, I'll stick it out in absolute misery until Verizon can woo Apple out of the next generation of brilliance!
When the iPhone came out, I was annoyed that it was offered exclusively through AT&T as I am an Apple fan as well as a Verizon fan. When iPhone is offered for Verizon customers, I'll definitely get one.
Now, if I can just get Verizon, Apple, Google, and Toyota to collaborate on my dream vehicle, I'll be all set.
they have had all the increased revenue from the iphone and have not used any of it to increase their coverage, whats the point of having a sweet phone like the iphone if most the features wont work 2 blocks away from a major interstate?
AT&T wont do anything to fix it, so PLEASE GO TO US CELLULAR OF VERIZON!!!!!
watch this video, I read your comment on here, and when I saw this I thought no way!, and you popped into my head.

Lefty
About whether or not non-AT&T users would by the iPhone, though—Uhh, YES! I know AT LEAST four people who constantly complain that they would get an iPhone if it was available on Verizon, and I'm sure many others feel the same way. Apple would make bank off of this.
