It's true, Twitter is where I heard about @chrispenn's challenge to write a goodbye letter in 56 minutes -- the same time people trapped in the South Tower had between impact and collapse. I did (you can see it here: http://bit.ly/bpyWX), and have spent a good portion of my day taking calls and emails from people I mentioned who want to tell me they love me, too.

At least for me, the technology available today has allowed me to remember 9/11 in a more meaningful, constructive way than ever before.

There is an iPhone app for the memorial of 9/11 here is a link to how it is both beautiful and yet missing out on a great social media possibility.

We have come a long way technologically since 9/11. During that time, we were spread around the US, but one fateful event brought us all closer together. After the impact of 9/11 we were able to commiserate with strangers, light candles for those we didn't even know, and offer any support that we could to anyone that needed it. Now, with social media we can communicate on a grand scale, sharing our condolences and paying tribute to loved ones. We can form our own support groups, easily identifying people who were in similar situations through #.

There is even an iPhone app in Memorial. Here is a link to how it is moving, but misses out on a great social media opportunity to do good.

The social media are the first outlet since the attack I have published my story. I saw Mohammad Atta and rode with him on a plane to Boston in 9-9 before he crashed the plane onto the towers. It was hard to write, but I am glad for Twitter and my blog to be able to share it. I cannot forget 911 and hope no one else does.

Genealogy bloggers have been asked to preserve their own recollections of that day so that their descendants can read their stories. We are displaying posts from over 600 genealogy blogs at Geneabloggers.com.

The National September 11 Memorial Museum also just launched a social media site, http://911history.org to collect 9/11 images, videos and stories and display them in an innovative time-stamped mapping interface. The site was developed by media design firm Local Projects.

    Here's some more info:

Make History (911history.org) is a world-wide initiative to gather any and every 9/11 story in an effort to understand history from the perspective of those who witnessed it. Using the website, visitors can search, group and sequence any number of histories, photos or experiences, creating custom sequences by time, geography or theme. Each photo is overlaid on a current street-view image of the present day, creating a "double exposure" of past and present. Go to http://www.911history.org to
