iPhone does not sync properly. Only download certain messages to the phone and not others.
Also push feature does not push. Emails take forever to show up.

PUSH really matters for people without blackberry, definitely me. I need to knwo if there was a client for pulling/push lotus notes, mnotes sucks..

I love email, but I just don't need to get a message the second it comes in. I get so much email as it is... I have 4 main email accounts. Personal, 2 Agency, and 1 for my e-commerce company. I currently have ... [looking] ... 70 unread messages and get a few every minute.

I don't want my phone buzzing every 30 seconds with a new email. Maybe that's a problem on my end... maybe I need to unsubscribe from a few things and filter better, I don't know. But I do know that I don't treat email as an immediate form of communication anymore. If someone needs me, they can pick up the phone and call me, or send me a text message or DM.

That said, I'm sure push email is very important to some people... I can see forwarding some critical messages to a special email account that has push enabled, for instance.

But then why allow for Yahoo email push in the Mail app and not Gmail?

I use a T-Mobile myTouch with an Exchange server account at work and with my Gamil account. If I am at my desk and see an email appear in Gmail on my PC browser I simultaneously hear a beep on my phone and the email is available there also if I look on the phone. In fact I find myself listening for the beep on my phone as a new mail notice even when I am busy at my desk PC.

What about IMAP, though? Is there a way to have the push and have the IMAP feature so that what I delete on my iPhone is reflected in my gmail account?

I'm having ALL kinds of problems with this. Email taking forever to load. All my emails disappearing from my phone! Reappearing later. Not to mention its definitely not picking up all my mail. Unimpressed

Be carreful with one things. The Exchange server want you google account password and not you gmail or google apps gmail password....

The same stipulation exists in Outlook, you can only have 1 Exchange account per Outlook profile. You can however have multiple profiles on a computer and switch between them, but it requires closing outlook EACH TIME you want to open a different exchange account).

I agree though, I'll be glad when I can have multiple Exchange accounts set up on my iPhone, allowing me to add my work's Exchange account as well.

I am getting the same thing, and really long verification times trying to set it up, too. I think the gmail server is snowed. Wasn't ramped up to handle the first day traffic, it would appear.

It started to download for me, then just failed.

I just switched back to NuevaSync for the time being while the rush dies down and Google gets their act together. I'm aware that Google Sync is free, but I can still complain when a service backed by such a large company performs so terribly.

You can selectively choose to not sync contacts or calendars now. So you don't have to do that if you fear losing your address book.

what is the notification suppossed to look like. after a few minutes, when i opened up gmail on the iphone again, i saw everything. but how do i know when something is 'pushed' -- ?

Well, it just didn't work for me, maybe something to do with my language being set to English (UK). I'll stick with IMAP until my University enables Google Sync (been told they are getting on to it)

No, push mail doesn't matter to me - I prefer to check my e-mail when I want to check it, not when it wants me to.

Plus, anything based on Microsoft technology... ick. I'll stick to "old" gmail, thankyouverymuch

I can't get this to work. Can anyone help me?

I follow the instructions to the letter and the result is a pop-up titled "Cannot Get Mail" and it says "The connection to the server failed." and my only option is to push OK.

Is there some setting on my iPhone 3G or on gmail that could be blocking this??

Also to note is that I used the IMAP method here: https://mail.google.com/sup...
and was at least able to see the mail/log in.

Agreed. I did a test and took several minutes to get the notification of new email with push enabled when I knew it was sitting there in my inbox online.
