This is old. I first heard of this back when Malcolm Gladwell's book Blink came out years ago and took them online on Harvard's website.

I read about it in Blink too. It tests the subconscious and the results showed that even if the conscious mind thinks it is unbiased, the subconscious mind often shows some level of racism.

It got me wrong anyway.
After telling my brain to do it one way, of course doing it the opposite way is going to prove challenging. The only way they could have any type of results of merit is if they do the exam the opposite way round on the same number of people and compare the two.
My experience is reflected in the stats at the end of it btw..

I have no personal race prejudice. I don't think it is important to have a race with skin pigmentation different from the white race. Except you are self-abased.

It gave me a different test. It had to do with preferences for Hope vs Duty and Community vs Individuality. I couldn't find any test about race. Regardless, this is what I got for the one I took:
"Your data suggest a slight automatic preference for Community compared to Individual.
Your data suggest a strong automatic preference for Hope compared to Duty."
Does this make me an idealistic communist?

According to the IAT- I have a slight automatic preference toward black people, However, I made two errors when they changed the E, I keys (I am left handed, not sure if handedness played a roll).

Yes, I do remember these from grad school but, is it automatically useless because it is not "new?" I also believe fatigue of test taker clouds results. Nevertheless, I was pleased to see I have no racial preferences. Hey, the societal color-blindness line starts here. :D

I felt like my results had less to do with my beliefs & attitudes and more to do with the 'training' your brain gets doing the first rounds. My test was male/female + science/liberal arts, not the race & bad/good words as in the example. I quickly 'learned' that 'men go on the left' or 'liberal arts goes on the right' .. so when they switched it around, I got all goofed up. Had nothing to do with what I thought about any of those associations. That's my take, anyway.

That makes sense to me; I grew up very critical of "white" culture. Some people say we're all racist, but Project Implicit says it's only a majority of people that are: "75-80% of self-identified Whites and Asians show an implicit preference for racial White relative to Black."
