Should have specified - I miss the chat bubbles from the original Tweetie. Tweetie was the first Twitter client I tried, and I never saw a reason to change.

I will say, I already miss the chat bubbles. I haven't tested it extensively, but the new features seem pretty cool.

But sadly, and I can't believe that this is (almost) a deal breaker for me, but... I want my chat bubbles back. Makes it so so SOOOOO much easier to read. For me, anyway.

Good points - I understand what you are saying.
However, if I would have known in advance that Tweetie 1.0+ had planned obsolescence, that it would not have future support, that my purchase price would have no value of loyalty for the ongoing use of the product to the author, I would not have made the purchase.

I whole heartedly agree with gqmike and wumfi!! Tweetie is now only catchin up to the other twitter apps out there (I have 5). Don't ask, I just like to see what performs better). Twittelator pro is the best example: After purchasing it when 3.0 came out, another 2 releases where put into the app store and they were free to owners. People have been waiting a long time for tweetie to bring out an upgrade, groups etc and $2.99 or not, it's just going to make more people crack their .ipa's. Just you wait and see...Am disappointed in Loren Brichter!!

At least in the current version, yes. Now that could change before final release, but as of now -- yes, you will still need Boxcar if you want @reply notifications from all users.

I'm not sure of the specifics of how that works (but I can did out) but it does indeed support API proxy stuff.

I think you can look at how Tweetie updates were handled and see that there isn't a precedent for charging for every update. Different styles, different URL shortners, instapaper support, bookmarkletting and other stuff was all added to the original Tweetie (which came out in late November of 2008 so it has hardly been over a year since an update). Oh! Landscape (albeit limited) mode was added to Tweetie for iPhone over time too.

Tweetie 2.0 is a fundamentally new app -- like the next version of iLife or Office or Adobe CS. Yes, the key features are the same, but so much new stuff has been added and the app was rewritten to be faster, take advantage of the new OS 3.0 stuff, etc.

I feel pretty confident that the same updates and tweaks and options that we got over time with the original Tweetie will also come over the lifetime of Tweetie 2.

Ultimately it's up to each person if they want to buy the new app. I feel it is enough of an upgrade and adds enough new stuff to be worth the $3.

Great! Def excited for tweetie2-2come. But.....I know this is small, but it bugs me so much. I really wish tweetie had a better icon. Two speech bubbles makes it look like tweetie is still in beta - which the underlying program clearly is not. Please let tweetie2 have a better icon!

People, Atebits has introduced several free updates since Tweetie 1.0 (Nov 2008) hence the current 1.3.2 version number. He's included not only bug fixes, but also included new features over it's current lifespan. I think if he charge $20 for the iPhone version, then maybe free whole point updates for life, but $2.99, c'mon.

I'm with you gqmike. The lemmings have their points - $3 isn't much - but if this is an indication of how all updates to this app will be handled, I do not want to support a precedent of paying full price every time an update is released.
