Seesmic for my PC and TweetDeck for the Mac. Since the business we are in deals with trying to find the perfect needle in the social media haystack, call me just a passenger on the evolution trail of these products' growth.

Re: POLL: TweetDeck Trounces Seesmic Desktop in Reader Vote

I've been kind of behind on the Twitter desktop apps and started using TweetDeck because other people I knew were. I never liked TweetDeck. It's horribly ugly (even if you change your colors) and annoying to navigate. I hadn't heard of Seesmic until the faceoff last week, but I switched quickly and love it.

The only thing I'm wondering is, can you (on a Mac) close--not quit--Seesmic and have it run in the background? Or do you just have to minimize it to keep it actively updating?

Re: POLL: TweetDeck Trounces Seesmic Desktop in Reader Vote

I think its just personal preference at this point. They both are good but I am so used to TweetDeck that I couldn't stand using Seesmic.

Re: POLL: TweetDeck Trounces Seesmic Desktop in Reader Vote

Wel lI never use Seesmic desktop, but what can said that rhe TweetDeck is a perfect solutions if You have many accounts, and supporting a facebook as well so you can see what happen on all your account !!! Have never used Seesmic BUT I have to say that I'm growing a little disappointed with TD. I'm running 0.31.3 on TD and have finally reported and documented to TD that the client misses tweets every once in awhile. TD support quickly responded with assigning a TD request number but it ended there. I did receive a note that TD support swamped and a delay in addressing but another week gone by and nothing.

I know TD client is free and sure TD and seesmic racing to support new features etc.

I'm just sayin, if you're running TD you very possibly are missng random tweets from Twitter users you follow that have very large number of followers. You also very possibly missing random tweets from any Twitter users in you TD built custom searches.

Re: POLL: TweetDeck Trounces Seesmic Desktop in Reader Vote

in my opinion,Tweetdeck has some better features
i got used to it
thanks for the post

Re: POLL: TweetDeck Trounces Seesmic Desktop in Reader Vote

I think Tweetdeck won mostly because they got to the game sooner and more people are aware of them. You're going to vote for which one you use more and more people use Tweetdeck at the moment. I've tried both and I prefer Seesmic. It may be later to the game, but is doing a better job of support and adding features faster. It is also more streamlined and easier to use.

Re: POLL: TweetDeck Trounces Seesmic Desktop in Reader Vote

I use Tweetdeck for the filtering capabilities and the syching to iPhone. It has come in handy a couple times while watching Client accounts. It also allows you to configure it almost anyway you want to. Seesmic is not a bad tool but I didn't feel the Twitter List support and the nicer GUI were enough for me. For personal account management, Seesmic is A-OK but for managing and/monitoring multiple accounts or groups, Tweetdeck is the way to go... for now anyway.

Re: POLL: TweetDeck Trounces Seesmic Desktop in Reader Vote

Come on Tweetdeck - hurry up with the twitter lists support! - or I will be swapping over soon!

Re: POLL: TweetDeck Trounces Seesmic Desktop in Reader Vote

It's an interesting poll but predictable result. I am not surprised at all. I've been using both, and would look forward to each new release. One thing good about the intense competition is that it keeps both developers on their toes and are always responsive.

At this very moment, I'd agree that TD ` is better' . But Seesmic had gone ahead previously - when their implementation of integration with Facebook was smoother. However, TD has taken the lead again by improving that aspect.

Anyway, there's something which Seesmic has that makes me regard it as my Number One Twitter desktop app - it doesn't feel as complicated to use as TD while not lacking in the critical areas. By this I mean " Groups" - it's easier to filter my following with Seesmic. And it feels lighter too.

Re: POLL: TweetDeck Trounces Seesmic Desktop in Reader Vote

I started with Seesmic, but now I prefer TweetDeck. Seesmic definitely beats TweetDeck, which is pretty ugly with its overly confusing UI - a plead annoying high-contrast buttons all over the place; with all the money investors pumped into TweetDeck, I expected them to at least hire an engineer to optimize the memory usage and a UX guy to improve the UI, but no, no improvement on either front.

Re: POLL: TweetDeck Trounces Seesmic Desktop in Reader Vote

Same here. Tweetdeck has some better features (translation ability, easier grouping, filtering of columns), but ever since I tried Seesmic, I can't go back. It's also a lot cleaner looking, visually, in my opinion.

Re: POLL: TweetDeck Trounces Seesmic Desktop in Reader Vote

I tried Tweetdeck (still use it on my iPhone) and Seesmic - which I preferred Twhirl to if I'm honest (it took up less screen), but since I discovered Hootsuite 2 I've not used any other client on my PC... I use Twitter for client work, and the ability to have multi accounts in tabs, ow.ly, and scheduling make things so much easier for me.

Re: POLL: TweetDeck Trounces Seesmic Desktop in Reader Vote

Hey Barb thank you so much for sharing this important information with us, i really appreciate this post.. While Seesmic may have been trounced in the popular vote, Seesmic has done well and is doing well considering it came later. I personally started with Tweetdeck, but switched to Seesmic, and I have been far more happy with it.

Re: POLL: TweetDeck Trounces Seesmic Desktop in Reader Vote

Tweetdeck was always buggy for me and even after adjusting would exceed rate limit, leaving me dead in the water. NEVER happens with Seesmic. And Seesmic's Twitter Lists support is phenomenal. I'm sticking with smooth-sailing Seesmic.

Re: POLL: TweetDeck Trounces Seesmic Desktop in Reader Vote

Seesmic is definitely better.
