At this very moment, I'd agree that TD ` is better' . But Seesmic had gone ahead previously - when their implementation of integration with Facebook was smoother. However, TD has taken the lead again by improving that aspect.
Anyway, there's something which Seesmic has that makes me regard it as my Number One Twitter desktop app - it doesn't feel as complicated to use as TD while not lacking in the critical areas. By this I mean " Groups" - it's easier to filter my following with Seesmic. And it feels lighter too.

I know TD client is free and sure TD and seesmic racing to support new features etc.
I'm just sayin, if you're running TD you very possibly are missng random tweets from Twitter users you follow that have very large number of followers. You also very possibly missing random tweets from any Twitter users in you TD built custom searches.
The only thing I'm wondering is, can you (on a Mac) close--not quit--Seesmic and have it run in the background? Or do you just have to minimize it to keep it actively updating?
