Mashable - The Social Media Guide: POLL: Tumblr Edges Out Posterous in Reader Vote

  • Aviraj Saluja · 2 months ago
All I'll say is that Posterous has been out for less than half the time that Tumblr has. This is impressive.
  • Joseph · 2 months ago
+1 ... Totally agree. Posterous (and the community) hasn't had the time to mature like Tumblr. So the fact that it's a close vote means in my mind, Posterous wins.

Using this logic, if a similar poll were to be conducted, MySpace should beat Facebook, because MySpace has been around longer.

Posterous will eventually come out on top. It's just a matter of time until Posterous has a strong(er?) community than Tumblr.

I like both of them, so either one wins is fine with me!!

Both Tumblr and Posterous are superior blogging platforms. I have both and you cannot go wrong with either one. The fact that Posterous has been around for a shorter period of time than Tumblr is a reflection of Posterous' simplicity and ease of use.

Does the voting mechanism check for IP address of the voters?
Do you use cookies (or somewhat like) mechanism?
==> to prevent multiple votes by one person..
    ==> ??

I like both, and I currently use Posterous for my site, but Tumblr is further along in development and deserves to win now. Let's see what Posterous looks like a year from now. Unless they bloat it like Wordpress has, I can see Posterous pulling even with Tumblr.

My preference is Posterous but I have found some interesting Tumblr sites recently that I have subscribed to and now follow actively!

    Go Tumblr!

But I do hope Posterous fans know that you can post to Tumblr via e-mail too.

Tumblr and Posterous will continue to duke it out.

I agree with Posterous only have been out for a short period of time it's become a threat to Tumblr. It's only a matter of time before Posterous takes over.

There's a great synergy between Posterous and the iPhone app SimplyTweet. Posting pictures or text longer than 140 characters will automatically post all to Posterous and send a 140-character shortened title + a link to the new post. I have fallen in love with this combination.

Posterous is the stronger platform if you ask me, tumblr is cool too but it's been out longer so it should win, try this in about 6 months and see the results
  • Peter · 2 months ago
Following your logic, Yahoo has been out longer and should beat Google... huh?
  • playboypaul · 2 months ago
not necessarily, yahoo is a portal that sells services and not mainly a
search engine and google we all know is a search engine not a portal so i
guess the answer is no to your question
  • Peter · 2 months ago
Huh? Yahoo started out as a search engine that lost its way.

MySpace should edge out Facebook in a poll because MySpace has been around longer?
  • playboypaul · 2 months ago
yahoo is the worlds most popular website, not search engine, and like most
of the threads in this post people seem to think that posterous will beat
out tumblr by the next poll, being around longer than a competitor is an
advantage when you have virtually the same service.

myspace isn't the same site it was in case u didn't know, it's mainly a
music site for new and old artists and facebook is something different,
check it out if you dont believe me
  • playboypaul · 2 months ago
actually get the facts straight dude, yahoo didn't start as a search
enginge, read the company history at least,

    http://yhoo.client.shareholder.com/press/histor...

please someone point out to me where search is even mentioned as part of
    their beginnings.

So Friendster should edge out Facebook in a poll because Friendster has been around longer?
  • playboypaul · 2 months ago
ur comments are lame, it's not how long they've been out, plus im not the
only only one in the thread with that thought process, kinda stupid really.
most believe as me that with a little more time to mature posterous should
    pull ahead of tumblr.
  • Peter · 2 months ago
So a more mature playboypaul should beat 84 year old Hugh Hefner in a poll?
  • Pierre · 2 months ago
I don't know what you're talking about. Doesn't everyone still use AltaVista? :P

I really only know one person who's active on Tumblr, and nobody on Posterous. My friend, though, is *wicked* active on Tumblr: http://jonmtm.tumblr.com
