Mashable - The Social Media Guide: Phase 2 of the Twitter Lists Rollout Begins: Twitter Apps

Awesome. Looks like I might be able to dump my RSS reader after all...
  • Barbara Nowacka · 1 month ago
I doubt it - with lists you will be less overwhelmed with information, but it won't help much, because people either tweet too much or not enough.
I think twitter needs to add some filters function (not just saved search or lists) - it would be nice to apply filters (like the search filter) for lists
  • Stuart Foster · 1 month ago
I don't think so. Really think it depends on which type of people you will follow (and the amount.)
  • Barbara Nowacka · 1 month ago
it also depends on what you are interested in - I am interested in many many subjects, not just tech stuff, but I don't have time to read everything - I would prefer to filter information not only by users (using lists) - because some users tweet every 5min and it's impossible to read everything - but also by keyword(s)

I don't agree - as a matter of fact I regularly unfollow twitter users who use it as a rss feed only. I prefer to read my feeds in Google Reader...

    That'd be welcome...

Would have been interesting to mention the API limits problem in this article. With only 150 reqs per hour you cant effectively follow 10+ lists in a 3rd party application going direct to the Twitter API.
  • Ben Parr · 1 month ago
They're still experimenting, but those limitations will be pulled back I suspect.
  • Eric Woodward · 1 month ago
Not sure how. They cant handle the current volume with any degree of reliability. It will be a challenge.

Is there a Wordpress plug-in yet so you can display the members of your list on your blog?
  • Dror Orbach · 1 month ago
The list feature is great for organizing large lists of people you follow into groups that reflect your topics of interest. This way you can filter your view of the home time line to the specific topic you want to work on at any particular point in time, and avoid getting inundated with the tweet flow. It also allows you to follow other people's lists relating to your topics of interests, rather than following each source individually.

Wouldn't it be nice if Twitter also enabled us to send DMs to a list?

I can't wait until people are up in arms when Tweetie 3 charges another $2.99 for list functionality. :)
  • Earl Hensley · 1 month ago
Tweetie is terrible. Everyone should switch to EchoFon Pro. Only $4.99 and developer actually does updates for free. Oh yeah and it has all the features of Tweetie and more!

It's amazing to me all the hoopla over a product that costs you <$5
    and that you use everyday.

Ask yourself, how much was your lunch? Or those jeans you never wear?
  • myisland · 1 month ago
Great, I can't wait til seesmic and hootsuite picks this up.

The list idea is cool but it is way too difficult to go through and add people to your list. I can't even see all my followers on one page (And I have less than 100 followers). If Twitter Lists are to work then they have to be easier to make. Besides Tweetdeck already does pretty much this same thing. If Twitter isn't careful they are going to screw around and ruin the good thing they have created, thus losing fans of the service.

Isn't there an easier way to create lists? Like in tweetdeck, to create a group, it pulls up your list of people, and you just check them off to go into the group. Creating a list seems so cumbersome. what am I missing?
  • gwoodard · 1 month ago
I'm now even more sure that lists are going to be big... You don't need to follow someone to list them. That is significant. Follow counts will gradually become meaningless.

    Hello Ben Parr,

very interesting these Twitter Lists, I have already done some Lists:

    http://twitter.com/Oberhauser/social-media
    http://twitter.com/Oberhauser/top-blogger

and I much like to work with it, by the way (needless to say) your are listed in both lists.

It would be interesting to know which limits Twitter will establish for the Lists, I mean for sample how many Lists one is allowed to have, how many Lists is one allowed to follow and so on ...

Maybe this could be a topic for one of your next posts about Twitter Lists.

    Thanks for the post.

    Stay tuned.
