By the way, your words "whom we perceive"... say a lot about you. It's your perception my dear. Based on no hard evidence, just what is reported by tabloid, gossip-fuelling trashy media.
He was found innocent after an extensive trial so stop banging the same old tired drum and get on with your sad little guttersnake life. Or do you assume everyone who has been accused of a heinous crime is deep-down guilty regardless of what their trial discovers.
You'd better hope nobody accuses you of a similar crime - because in your world, you'd be guilty... even if you're not.
It is truly a sad world when we are so ignorant to believe that the news that is poured over us from the TV or Newspaper is even close to the truth.
Cmon friends let's construct our world view with some sense of autonomy.
What is despicable is the screenshot which was clearly meant to do harm both to PH and to the Jacksons. I won't even address the title of the article, Mashable... shame on you.
He is nothing BUT an over dramatic lame ass diva wanna be. His fifteen minutes of fame is OVER. I don't even get how he got where he is, I can only imagine.
All this #unfollowperezhilton crap is stupid. Lay off. Focus on your own lives and be happy you still have yours. If you don't like Perez, don't read his stuff. Or realize he made a mistake and get over it.
And the fact that he DID remove the post showed how two faced he is. You can’t be all snaky one second and then try to take back your words with some half assed damage control bit. That’s stupid. He’s trying to cover up his mistake. I would’ve had more respect for him if he were to just admit he was wrong and face the music. But the fact that you support his sorry ass makes you as mindless and as ignorant as he is. What’s stupid is the fact that you support a lying hypocrite who feels it’s ok to use anti gay slurs when HE himself is gay.
I don’t particularly care for the unfollowperezhilton movement, but I certainly wouldn’t call it stupid, especially when a lot of people had enough of his crap. The difference is that he doesn’t LEARN from his mistakes. Maybe the past few days will teach him to actually THINK before he opens his mouth.
As far as "damaging" the blog and social media community goes, the social media world takes hemselves way too seriously. The world outside of social media does not regard social media with a whiff a credibility about things reported through it. We know that it is only the ravings of anyone with a kbd and an internet connection. (myself included) Nothing more. Sure, Mashable is at a magazine like quality but social media and blogging on the whole is nothing more than rumor mill and punditry for whatever cause the writer desires to push.
I was trying to research jQuery for a presentation this past week and all that came up was blog after frickin' blog. I had to wade through crazed jQuery fan agendas to find the considerably fewer sincere articles. I found it alarming that there were no actual publications being returned with my Google searches. Everyone's voice has only created "white noise" that cannot be trusted. The barrier to entry of the publishing world has been all but removed. That has not increase quality. It has only increased volume.
Believing that social media is believed to be a respected source is lower than believing Wikipedia is an actual encyclopedia.
Social media is a great tool, but is little more that the world's largest chat room. Where it is amazingly useful is that it provides a snapshot in to where the consciousness of a massive amount of people are at any given moment.
Social networking and blogging are symptomatic of our mindless, entertainment based, consumer culture.
seriously Perez, you migh want to think about checking that ego. pride comes before the fall dude. quite believing your own hype. Rumors of your greatness are greatly exaggerated. You are a gossip blogger. that's all. you can be replaced by the next gosspi blogger with a s gimmick who's right over yoru shoulder and waiting for a crack in your armor JUST LIKE THIS. youve lost 1 million followers on Twitter in just a few hours. You are not impermeable. You should begin to noyice a drop in website traffic as well. And we all know what that mean$.
check yourself before its too late.
What an insensitive and unnecessary accusation.
Calling Perez Hilton a disgrace to blogging is as stupid as calling Marilyn Manson a disgrace to mankind. Are you seriously saying that all blogs are terrible now because one blogger did something distasteful on his? What Perez does is part of a shtick, he isn't really that big an asshole. He's doing it to make people laugh because that's the point of what he does. Is it a little rude or mean? Not to me but I can understand why others would be offended but before you all backlash like this you need to remember why he did this. Just like Shaun Nestor in these comments said, he is simply using popular news to his advantage by making fun of it.
I really don't understand why everyone talked so much crap about MJ during his lifetime after his skin dyeing and child porn phases yet now everyone's bawling and saying "poor Michael" No, just no. I can't stand it when people are so two-faced, it makes me sick. We are talking about a man who was caught with child pornography and was most likely sleeping with little boys as well. He even dangled his baby out a window for God sakes! Why this man should be felt sorry for is beyond me since he has done such disgusting things that Perez's stunt can't even be compared to MJ's actions.
I think the only despicable thing here is that you're all mourning for a man who has done such disgusting things just because he had some cool hits in the '80s. I'll admit the man has made some good music but let's leave it at that. I'm not saying it's good that he died but if Perez was going to make fun of a celebrity death at least it was someone who deserved the ridicule. I'm also a little disgruntled since no one is saying anything about Farrah Fawcett other than R.I.P. even though she was the one with love and good intentions in her heart. Glad to know the liberal and smart people of the social media world are worried about looking bad because of Perez's blog post when they should worry about looking bad since they're crying over the death of a child molester. Wake the fuck up people.
Love,
Freddy Gipson
Yeah comedic isn’t the word I would use to describe Perez Hilton right now. More like distasteful. And even on some level HE would agree seeing as how he took down his original post and edited. He shouldn’t be taken seriously but there is something called ethics and social behavior. Two things Perez knows nothing about. Because he wouldn’t be insulting a man who was sick and left behind three children. Regardless of MJ’s troubled recent events, he WAS a huge impact on pop culture world as well as charities and philanthropy. THAT is what people are mourning. And Perez Hilton’s captions are hardly funny. More like…stupid. There’s commitment and then there is taking things to far. He deserves to be hated and ridiculed.
“Calling Perez Hilton a disgrace to blogging is as stupid as calling Marilyn Manson a disgrace to mankind. So you’re telling me, that as long as it’s a joke and meant to be funny, we can make fun of something that shouldn’t be taken lightly? So if I were to right now insult Farrah Fawcett in a rather distasteful way and say something along the lines of her “looks like cancer raped Farrah Fawcett to death.” that would be ok? Even if I said “oh it was only a joke”? What a stupid argument. Of course that’s not ok to do. Socially or otherwise. That’s like making jokes about people that were involved in the holocaust. Fact is he is more than a disgrace to blogging, he’s a disgrace to all of humanity as well as the gay community. You say he’s not really an ass hole and this is his shtick, but when your shtick involves YOU to insult people and berate them, that DOES make you an ass hole. I understand his comedy very well and I still find him to be a disgraceful and rude. And for the reason you stated, he is getting rightfully what’s coming to him. Comeuppances.
“I really don't understand why everyone talked so much crap about MJ during his lifetime after his skin dyeing and child porn phases yet now everyone's bawling and saying "poor Michael" No, just no. “
Again I’ll repeat what I said earlier. Regardless of MJ’s troubled recent events, he WAS a huge impact on pop culture world as well as charities and philanthropy. THAT is what people are mourning. It’s not two faced at all to feel sorry for someone who had such a trouble life only to have it cut short before he had a chance to redeem himself. I by no means condone what he did and his charges at all, but unlike you, I can be sympathetic to him and his family at this harsh time.
“I can't stand it when people are so two-faced, it makes me sick. We are talking about a man who was caught with child pornography and was most likely sleeping with little boys as well. He even dangled his baby out a window for God sakes! Why this man should be felt sorry for is beyond me since he has done such disgusting things that Perez's stunt can't even be compared to MJ's actions.”
So you say you hate two faced people and what and you despise them, yet you clearly support and respect a man who originally poked fun at a Cardiac arrest patient, only to change his tune after he heard that said person had died? That totally goes against what you stated above. That’s rather hypocritical of you. But what really makes this funny is that you automatically assume that you know MJ. Because you and MJ use to be just so damn tight and so close right? So you know him better than anyone else. Please, spare me this ill logical tomfoolery.
“I think the only despicable thing here is that you're all mourning for a man who has done such disgusting things just because he had some cool hits in the '80s.”
More like the 80’s and 90’s as well as being one of the most influential icons in the transition of popular music today. But that’s nothing compared to a super star blogger like Perez Hilton. But yeah, mourning for someone who had a fall from grace is much worse than supporting and respecting a man who uses derogatory language and starts fights while trying to play the victim card without even giving a proper apology to the people he insulted. Especially said employers of a group that pretty much gave him his taste in the Hollywood lime light. Yeah that’s so much better.
“I'll admit the man has made some good music but let's leave it at that.”
And not to mention his charities as well as philanthropy that he was part of as well. Again not saying his charity condone his recent trouble actions, but he did have a huge impact on that as well. But yeah, let’s just focus on all the bad he’s done and not talk about his charitable donations. Yeah, that seems like a good idea.
“I'm not saying it's good that he died but if Perez was going to make fun of a celebrity death at least it was someone who deserved the ridicule.”
Isn’t that a double standard? you’re saying that it’s not good he died but if Perez Hilton was going to make fun of a celebrity death it should be someone who deserved it? That totally contradicts each other. If it wasn’t good then you wouldn’t be posting this ridiculous rant. And as for deserving the ridicule, there are a ton of celebrities who have done questionable things in their lives that had passed away and deserve sympathy. Even Farrah Fawcett, god bless her and her entire family, did some questionable things in her life. Maybe not as questionable as MJ’s but none the less eyebrow raising. Again if he were to make fun of her death then that would be ok?
Or how bout I make fun of Johnny Cash and insult his legacy since he also did some pretty shocking things in his day. How hypocritical can you be Gipson?
Let’s not forget ole Perez took shots at her and her Son while he was going through a tough time as well. But no, it’s ok because she deserved it. Pfft!.
“I'm also a little disgruntled since no one is saying anything about Farrah Fawcett other than R.I.P. even though she was the one with love and good intentions in her heart. Glad to know the liberal and smart people of the social media world are worried about looking bad because of Perez's blog post when they should worry about looking bad since they're crying over the death of a child molester. Wake the fuck up people.”
You mean besides all the special that have been shown about her on access Hollywood as well as interviews by the people that were the closest in her life? As well as the HUGE headline news that it made? Yeah. How horrible. Again it was just the timing is all. Fact is Michael Jackson WAS a rather potent figure in both a negative AND a positive aspect. Unlike you, some people have the capacity to focus on the good as well as the bad in someone’s life and still manage to give some sympathy towards the departed person and their family. The only one who looks BAD and deserves to look bad is Perez Hilton for his recent defamatory actions.
But if he were to die, it would be ok for people to make fun of him right? Because he didn’t do anything bad. I mean all he did was insult a 16 year old starlet in a constant manner as well as poke fun at the children of the celebrities. Not to mention renege an apology to someone who merely gave her opinion on a panel question as well as use slur words that his community has been fighting to get rid. So if he were to die, then it would be ok to mock his death? Cool…gotcha.
Grow a Brain pal.
As far as "comedic actions" turning into murderous rage I have to say it really depends on many factors. I think the whole murderous rage thing is a bit dramatic but bullied kids have been known to go on to do bad things because of their concealed pain so you're right there. But I can hardly say ALL kids end up like that. I am not saying that actions like PH's are more acceptable since he is an adult but he is making fun of adult celebrities which means that the asses of the jokes are much more likely to let the joke go considering their frontal lobes are fully developed and they aren't pubescent teens dealing with high school. Bullying/joking as kids and bullying/joking as adults can hardly be compared.
I am looking at your last line and it struck me hard. I don't expect you to tell em if you're related to this man but if you are I am sorry for your loss. I love the man's music absolutely but some of the things he has done do not sit well with me. I am sorry if this is offensive to you but I am trying to be respectful to you and this man as much as I can be.
In the first place, why are you even mashing up his professional career with his private, or in this case publicised, life together? People are mourning over the death of the King of Pop, his music, nothing more than that. You don't see anyone going about saying "oh such a pity this child molester is gone!" While MJ was alive and did those despicable things, yes many people frowned against those actions, but now that he's gone people are treating it as a loss of a music legend and nothing more. I don't see why these people should be labelled as two-face since they are willing to put aside his atrocities and mourn the loss of a legend like no other. Plus, it wasn't just "some cool hits in the '80s", that's a gross understatement.
Whatever he has done that does not sit well with you, and many of us, remains at that. Lambasting the hoards of people around the world who are genuinely mourning is tactless and uncalled for.
There wasn't a reply button on your post so I'll have to reply here. I am not against those like you said that put aside the child molester crap and worship his music. I am against the people who truly think he is innocent and are thinking that a hero died when really, only a talented musician died. I really like his music as well so I did not mean to offend you by making it look as if I was underrating him when I said "some hits from the '80s" I'm just disappointed that some people are forgetting what a monster this man was by pretending that he's still the man he was in the '80s when in reality a man's legacy after death should be defined by ALL of his actions, not just the ones people want to remember. For those idolizing the musician known as Michael Jackson go ahead because that was a legendary man but for those idolizing the man known as Michael Jackson I feel bad for them since that man did some vile things.

Grow a Brain pal.
My biases came from the fact that child molesters are the people in this world I hate the most and unfortunately MJ was most likely one of them. After speaking to many people like yourself during this ordeal I have come to realize that not many condone his actions and that they were simply mourning the death of the MJ we knew and loved 20 years ago and not the MJ we were stuck with now.
I shall agree that what PH did was a little distasteful but there was no way he could have guessed that MJ was going to die. I don't think that by putting out an apology on his blog he has made up for his actions completely but at least he is making an attempt to. As far as philanthropy goes that's a very tough call since donating money to charities is never a bad thing but some have done it for the wrong reasons, maybe to look better in the limelight for past actions but I would hope that MJ had enough decency to do it for the right reasons so I won't go there until I know more.
All your points are completely valid but I still can't get over the fact that he has done such sick things to kids. I don't know if I'm alone in this but I'm having a very hard time mourning for someone who was a child molester, even if we are mourning for MJ the musician and not MJ the creep.
Like I said before, the fact is that MJ had a FALL from grace. He WAS at one time a charitable human being. And even in his later days he still was. It was a shame that he did what he did. He’s a very sick man. And I don’t mean that as an insult, I honestly think that MJ was a very mentally ill individual who needed help and it’s a shame that he didn’t get it. But what separates us from Perez Hilton is that we can or at should acknowledge the fact that his entire later life was just one huge troubled mess. Even in his younger years, he had a horrible child hood. I mean his song “Have you seen my child hood” speaks for it’s self. Again none of this condone’s his weird nature in the end but it’s just something to look at and see WHY he did what he did.
And while I agree that there was no way that he could’ve guessed that MJ was going to die, it wasn’t about that, as much as it was him JOKING about something as serious as someone going into cardiac arrest. I mean no news report or anyone would ever joke or fake a harsh heart attack. And as for Perez’s apology, I can’t accept because he’s just going to do the something over and again. An apology is useless unless you change who you are. And since He made a career out of being an ass hole to people, it’s unlikely he will do it. And again this is more along the lines of Perez changing his tune at the sound of MJ’s death. I mean he was all scornful at one point and then sorrowful a split second later? He’s the definition of shady in my eyes.
But I can see why you wouldn’t mourn the death of him because, you made a good point too. He did a lot of questionable things that are frowned upon. And I was too. But like I said, I try to remember the good things he did and hopefully right now, he’s found at least some resemblance of peace. And I do apologize if I came across to brash as well as repeating my posts a few times. I’m still trying to figure out how this blogging site works because it looked as if my post was erased by the admins or what not. So I posted it numerous times. Which is why it repeated it’s self. Sorry about that
He is a man who makes money off of being mean. Please don't assign any other virtues to him. In his personal life, he has shown himself to be just as petty as he is on his website. He makes himself out to be the champion of gay people everywhere. He has persecuted everyone who even looked at a gay person sideways. In some cases, his constant badgering and crucifying on his website has cost people their jobs, their homes, and their ability to enjoy their lives. And yet, he chooses to do the exact same thing as his victims and expects to be applauded. I only pity him instead.
Please find a better hero. They certainly do exist. And to anyone who agrees that his reign of terror has gone on way too long already, please feel free to write his advertisers and let them know that you won't support their products as long as they supprt him.
He may make money off being a total dick but we're talking about a guy who was near homeless during the start of his career and then out of nowhere he became big because of his online buzz and his TV appearances. I think that most people would take the same route he did and take the money and keep on blogging. He is not doing anything worse now on his blog than he was at the start. I don't idolize this man but I also don't completely hate him either. Yeah his post was a little distasteful but he couldn't have known MJ was going to die and this didn't need this much attention.
If PH is as attention-hungry as most of us claim he is then he loves this because even bad press is still press. A backlash like this on a blog as popular as this giving him twice as many views so if you're really that disgusted or annoyed by him just stop reading his stuff. All these threats about going to his advertisers are just plain ridiculous since you haven't even given them a full day to speak their minds. For all we know all his sponsors may drop him tomorrow because of this so give it time.

Despicable is a harsh word. Perez clearly wrote this before anyone knew he was dead. Like Perez I initially thought it might be another Jacko hijink! You can't fault Perez for trying to avoid being duped. It is entirely possible this was just another dangling baby!
If you want to see Perez's true feelings of the situation you should check out his Twitter updates.
Despicable is a pretty accurate word to describe someone as two faced as he is. Especially someone who insults and jokes about a person going into cardiac arrest. So MJ dying is an excuse for Perez to say such a horrible thing? What kind of illogical BS argument is that? That’s like saying it’s ok to make fun of someone’s misfortune, unless he didn’t die from it. So I guess it would be ok for me to make fun of a terminally ill cancer patient as long as they didn’t die. You’re pretty stupid you know that?
You have to be pretty twisted to lie about as something as serious as going into cardiac arrest. And you have to be a VERY convincing actor to pull it off. The possibility of that is pretty slim to nil. Like the chance of your pseudo intellectual light weight argument making any resemblance of sense. But if you honestly think that Perez’s true feelings about the situation is his twitter updates, then you are sorely mistaken and YOU are the one being duped.
By attacking me you are showing that emotions are guiding your opinions. I love Michael Jackson, but I'm not completely brainless to put up guard when he makes a news story. Open your eyes for once!
First of all, Perez isn't factually wrong - Jackson DID pull a similar stunt in 1995. Don't want people to question your death? Don't fake it and cry "wolf."
Second of all, at the time of Perez's original post, Jackson's death wasn't confirmed - it was speculation. You're all looking at it as if he already knew.
Third of all, we *ARE* talking about the man who dangled a baby out of a third-story window and shook it, right? Just wanted to make sure we're talking about the same person.
I want point out the fact that what Jackson pulled in 1995 during his dangerous tour looked serious but was nothing as life threatening as heart failure. I told this to someone before and I will tell it to you. MJ obviously did a lot of questionable things and I don’t condone that, but to fake something as serious as going into cardiac arrest, you either have to be really sick and twisted, or a very convincing actor. And I don’t think MJ is that twisted to joke about going into cardiac arrest. Especially since the paramedics approached his door and said “He’s not breathing.” I mean you can only hold your breath for so long.
SECOND of all, Jackson’s death is irrelevant. That’s NOT what we are arguing. We are arguing about his two faced idiocy. Acting like the pompous ass that he is and then acting all somber afterwards. This was the same man who was totally anti prop 8 and then all of a sudden threw whatever good work he did down the toilet and attacked GLAAD, the same group that was responsible for his foot into the Hollywood lime light.
Third, no one here is trying to denounce or soft play MJ‘s trouble past. We are all aware of what he has become in recent years and the shots people took at him. What this is about is some man who has the audacity to insult someone else’s legacy and then at the drop of a hat tries to play damage control and act all somber. I would have more respect for Perez Hilton if he were to just apologize for making that post.
And you can’t denounce the GOOD things MJ has done. It doesn’t cover up the fact that yeah he did have a troubled life and what not, but to ignore his good deeds and his philanthropy would be silly. Just like your statement.
To make Hilton go away, stop reporting on him! Every time any member of the media - professional or not - posts his name, his brand is extended.
#unfollowperez should be #ignorehim
Use your power for good Perez. This crap is, and has been, old.
He's a disgusting excuse of a human, and it's almost fitting that he got clocked earlier this week at some Canadian music award after party.
Perez Hilton is a blemish on humanity. If you give him a voice, he cannot seem to use it for anything good.
I have no idea who he is, have no interest in his blog and no interest in celebrity worship.
His opinion turned out to be wrong, at least he had the balls to post it.
Ahh.. Celebrity News.
And I don't even consider him part of "the blogging community"...he's nothing more than just another paparazzi or tabloid reporter.
I'm sorry he passed away, but it's difficult to sentimentalize his life.
Right, because syndicating his content on mashable is clearly the best way to mke it go away. Clearly ignoring it would only make it worse. I havent seen his content once in my life and now, thanks to mashable, I have. Hooray!
I hope Will.I.Am sees you again somewhere in Bed-Stuy, or Fort Green, without others around.
We all have fond memories of Michael Jackson from our childhood and we should appreciate those fond memories and let the ones that are not favorable go. He gave us many gifts to hold on to that which was bad.
As for TMZ....they really were about 30 minutes ahead of anyone else. I was searching everywhere and the only place I could find that he had actually died was TMZ. Sad...sad day.
Perez Hilton should be ashamed!

But I think just like journalists, each blogger will make a name for themselves depending on the relevancy and accuracy of their postings.
I don't think Perez's actions should be extrapolated to the entire blogging community. Prior to this incident Perez was still considered a Glogger (gossip blogger), and therefore on a scale of trustworthiness and "reporting," would not be put in a similar category as say, for example,...you.
With any reporting mechanism there are people who will take advantage of the tool, but it is up to our online community to continue to uphold the quality of our output.
I believe social media won't take any sort of "hit" from Perez's actions, but more than likely, grow as a forum of communication, a way to weed out those who produce faulty information and create an avenue for multimedia news distribution.
Who in the fuck cares what some dude on the internet writes people, get over it.
However, may I add that he is an even bigger piece of shit for saying what he did today. Way to go asshole. The King of Pop is dead, and it's not funny. You lose.

In perez' defence, he edited the blog while he could have left it up.

Insensitivity is the word I've been looking for all night. I don't understand the insensitivity of people trying to make light of MJ's Death. Because of hundreds of thousands of people dying daily and we don't say anything about them.... or people cracking jokes, and molestation comments. It's sad, but I think those people have other issues that they are covering up by acting like that anyways.
I like the #ignoreperez - don't go to his site - I don't and I won't ever again.
Michael Jackson dies... and this is the best news you've got?
Forget the fact that it doesn't have the logos, colors, or fonts of his site, it's totally not Perez's writing style.
You're all so gullible. Grow up.
Pete
seriously Perez, you migh want to think about checking that ego. pride comes before the fall dude. quite believing your own hype. Rumors of your greatness are greatly exaggerated. You are a gossip blogger. that's all. you can be replaced by the next gosspi blogger with a s gimmick who's right over yoru shoulder and waiting for a crack in your armor JUST LIKE THIS. youve lost 1 million followers on Twitter in just a few hours. hey perez your a piece of dirt
How can you gay-bash a guy in one breath, and in the same breath, criticize him bashing another guy? Any of you who've mentioned Perez' sexual preference should take a long, hard look at yourselves in the mirror and come back up here when you've figured out what it is you're looking at.
Honestly, I'm ashamed to call myself a Mashable reader after seeing these kinds of comments.

i just can't.
stupid perez. michael will live on forever as a great legend... in our hearts and his music
On the other side, he is very respectful in these situations -- refusing to pose death photos, mourning families, ambulance pictures. Yet, CBS had NO problem showing this stuff.
Boo and hiss.

He's bitter and envious of people with looks and talent who actually have a career and decided to mooch off of their fame by spreading hate and lies - he isn't even above spreading lies about children of stars just to create "controversy"!!!
DING! Your 15 minutes of fame are up, Perez.
You can return to the hole you crawled out of now.
Remember when you got punched in the face last week, and then cried about it to the world, because the police didn't show up when you wanted them to, just to fill out a goddamn incident report? and you showed everyone the tiny, worthless person you really are?
You'll never be 1/100th of the person Michael Jackson was, you're just some "wannabe celebrity" who makes his money by being the loudmouthed leech of society.
Don't worry, I'm not going to celebrate, or make jokes about you if you were to suddenly die of a heart-attack...you're not even close to being worth it.
I am a 45 year old black male, and I've been crying, sobbing, and just...SHOCKED!!! I've not been this sad since Princess Diana's death.
I just wasn't ready to give up Michael, even to God, Allah, or any other!
Rest in Peace, Love...
We will miss you Michael. I would not miss Perez Hilton.
The rush to get on top of a story, get the scoop and to be the first in the blogosphere to make a comment about an event before all the facts are in is what leads to the dissemination of misinformation and tarnished reputations. Is that all that blogging is -- the freedom to give in to knee jerk reactions and transmit emotionally fueled slander and falsehoods? I think blogging is much, much more, and Perez needs to step up his game if he wants to continue being relevant (if he ever really was).
And, to all those who call Perez 'a comedic blogger/gossip columnist entertainer', I say: are you SURE that's his intent? If so, well, we should all be laughing. If we're not laughing, the joke is lost, he's not funny, and he needs new material.
This particular celebrity was nothing but a pathetic pedophile who just happened to write a couple of OK pop songs that were well-produced by someone else.
Apart from that, he (it?) had a significant mental problem (black man wanting to be white, and altering his face to the point where he no longer looked human) and needed help, but didn't accept it. I don't miss him one bit, and part of me wishes it had happened a lot earlier before he could foist his desires on the poor kids hanging around him.
Give me a break.
The children are safe.
It would really be funnier if someone Photoshopped Perez with a Yes on 8 sign just to show him how it feels to be made fun of like that.
This article seems to be trying to make something out of nothing for the writer's own benefit pure and simple.
Please don't mistake this for defense, because I don't see anything to defend, but there will always be hatters and mean spirited gossip columnists/bloggers and comedians. We really need to learn not to be offended by every little thing. Get over it.
An automated way remember the King of Pop with twitter bling:

Methinks success has gone to the head of PH.
Admittedly he is part of the "new media" but he has to take a standard "old media" rule or two with him, as does anyone else - if you are reporting news, you cannot be part of it.
PH is too wrapped up in being seen and photo'd with celeb's. If you are writing about them you can't party with them or be their "best" friend - at least publicly!
His behavior over the past week seems to indicate that the PH fans grew to love is quickly disappearing in the heady haze of his "fame." We used to call that type of person "a legend in their own lunch-time." He now appears to believe his "celebrity" provides a free ticket to whatever outrageous behavior he feels like employing.
Watch out! Too many really famous corpses believed that too!
Perez bless your pitiful, stupid heart. I think most folks look at you and wonder to themselves, "Wow, God you really do have a sense of humor."
Thank you Michael for hanging out on the planet during my lifetime. It has been a pleasure to watch you, grow up with you and enjoy your gift. It will be a greater pleasure to celebrate your life everytime I put my CDs in the stereo and dance to my heart's desire.
It's like I can hear God, our wonderful Creator say, "come on home my good and faithful servant."
All naysayers, good luck to you.
"One blogger doing unprecedented damage to the social media cause (and in fact undermining the credibility of all bloggers) is Perez Hilton"
It is like comparing US Magazine to The New Yorker, I think they both have a place in our culture. I don't really think that Perez Hilton was out of line, especially concerning Michael Jackson. Obviously in hind site it seems cruel, but in the last decade MJ has pulled a lot of crazy stunts.

Great Job! Need an organization name? Here is one I played with that has gotten response.
ATROPHY
Advocating The Removal Of Perez Hilton's Yammerings
;)
i'm a proponent of social media, i know its strengths. people like perez hilton make both new media and old media look worthless, but (in both cases) only momentarily until either form of journalism offer something of importance to the public. rush limbaugh looks just as bad every day, and i think he's still technically "mainstream."

And that there in lies the problem. People like you who hide behind this “Free country” argument like it’s ok to say horrible things and not expect some repercussions. It’s not that he’s done permanent damage or anything. It’s that people are sick and tired of this ass hole running his mouth 24/7. Why do you think people are unsympathetic towards his horrific behavior towards will.iam. The fact is for people who DO blog, people like him, Crabbie, Mr. Paparazzi give them a bad name. That’s the problem. And something should be done about him. Hopefully he’ll get punched again.

But nobody reads Hilton's blog for a fair and balanced look at news. They read it for celebrity gossip and a first look at all the dirt. When the object of the game is to be the first with the report, we shouldn't be surprised when those reports are less than accurate.
BTW - has anyone seen Janet yet?

He stirs things up and does it exceedingly well, and I sometimes enjoy laughing at his take on celebrities (because they deserve to have the piss ripped out of them as hard as possible sometimes). And yes, we laugh at Perez a little bit too, because you can't be 100% sure whether he's being serious or whether he's also taking the piss out of himself. Only he knows that for sure...
Trust me though, Perez Hilton has done NO damage whatsoever to social media or blogging as a media form. He's just provided a few more laughs for everyone - so, Mr. Cashmore, stop trying to rile the Internets and get down off ye olde high horse, because it doesn't suit you. Anything Perez Hilton-related is officially no-news. Can we get back to talking about srs bsns now?

When Jackson dangled his tiny baby over the balcony, did anyone say, "Well, there you go. Fathers are all creep!"?
I think, generally speaking, people are a bit more discerning than that.
There's being a celeb and gossip blogger, and then there's being a giant sack of disgusting filth.
I don't condone violence, but that punch he got was long, long overdue, and quite honestly, I'm totally surprised it hasn't happened more often.
Ignoring him will not make him go away, what will have an effect on him is to contact every single one of the advertisers on his site and tell them that you will boycott them and all of their products if they continue to advertise with him.
Hit him where it hurts, his wallet.
Rob Thomas had all of his ads pulled off of Hilton's site after a reader emailed All Access over Hilton describing 15 year old Dakota Fanning as a "ho".

If everyone contacted all of his advertisers and asked them to pull their ads because of the offensive content he posts or they will boycott them, he will lose all of his financial backing and possibly be forced to change his ways.
Maybe. It's worth a shot.
I've already emailed the advertisers I saw on there on Friday, and when a new one pops up, I'm going to email them too.
I just feel so frustrated I forget to check the grammar before posting.
