MediaCurves.com just conducted a study with 305 viewers of a new controversial ad by Sprint promoting their new Palm Pre phone. The majority of viewers reported that “inspiration” and “happiness” were the emotions they felt most while watching the commercial. The study also revealed that the majority of viewers (67%) reported that the ad was either somewhat effective or extremely effective, while 16% of viewers indicated that the ad was confusing. i noticed what you did, and commented yesterday that I really like the ad. i watch tons of ads on TV & it was really refreshing and attention grabbing for me. she exudes sensuality and the whole look reminds me of Leonardo da Vinci paintings. watch her mouth and listen to her voice. she talks in a hushed tone, making me lean in to see & hear her better. yes it's creating a lot of buzz = free publicity.

Interesting choice of music. The song is "Doot Doot," from the 1984 album of the same name by a band called Freur (members of which later formed The Underworld).

It's a very cool but very obscure record.

This ad actually worked very well. Yes, the ad creeped a LOT of people out but it is getting a HUGE amount of attention. It's going viral on the Internet and causing a reaction so what if it's creepy and negative, it's promoting the brand. So Palm Pre should have some boring ad showing what their phone does? Would anyone be talking about that? What about the Twitter Palm Pre girl site someone started and the people messing with the ad on YouTube and creating their own version. The fact that all of you are responding passionately about a commercial shows it works. Bing, Bing, Bing, Baby. Now I turn my back on you.

You know I have a Palm Pre (no issues, actually pretty cool) as I switched to Sprint and wanted to try something other than another Blackberry Curve. Coming from an Advertising background... I agree this commercial is weird... I've seen it a few times and I can say that I probably would not have gotten one if I saw the commercial first. LOL!! It truly is not helping them sell more units given their slow start.

I don't know about their overall marketing strategy, but this particular ad seems to come from the brain of someone who's watched Vanilla Sky one too many times, which may account for some of the WTF?ness of it. The girl even has that weird sort of androgyny that Tilda Swinton has...

Yeah, that commercial campaign creeps me out for several reasons, none of which relate to the use of Bing and nearly all related to the girl herself. Felt like it was a Ring or similar Japan Horror movie commercial at first.

I think they are trying to find their advertising strategy as there doesn't seem to be a clear cohesive focus between the ads.

The initial Facebook ad was simply a statement on browsing the web. I think Facebook was chosen due to it popularity and instant connection a viewer would have with the commercial because of familiarity.

The second commercial, with the controversial spooky baby, in my opinion, was just a poor decision in the post production process. If anything, at worse it was simply overlooked and the intended 'zen like" feel of the commercial overshadowed this oversight.

The third commercial, as shown on this page, attempts to go back to the browsing push, but in the same way as the first commercial. It's a meld between the two concepts and leaves room for more growth, focus and creativity. The production is focusing on a word here that is familiar to viewers so that they can connect with the advertisement when they watch it, however it may well be lost on a vast majority of people and again I question the production value and creativity.

The campaign seems to be a work in progress. Maybe Palm should just reconsider the house they choose to make their ads. If three times is a charm, I'm not feeling it.
