how about the president start focusing on being the president and not being a celebrity.

When will mashables add the feature where you can click on the image to enlarge?
  • Adam Ostrow · 1 month ago
u can click on the "stream" link for the big version.
  • TheBox193 · 1 month ago
Yep, that is how flickr works... but on any mashable article, how does one enlarge the image? I always find myself wanting to see a larger view of images that are in the posts.

Wow! I know this is official photographer, press release stuff but it's still hard to imagine other Presidents posting family photos on Flickr.

I routinely watch the videos that are posted on the Vimeo Whitehouse stream. The ones they do that aren't press conferences not only are great quality, but use a team that knows and understands the latest tech when it comes to video. You can see that in their gear. i'm impressed

I can't help thinking of all of the celebrities who sell their pictures, and that makes me appreciate this action even more!

I'd say that I appreciate Obama's Official White House Flickr stream more than any of the administration's other online profiles because it gives a truly unprecedented, in-depth look into the President's life. It's consistently updated with amazing photos.

Because the photos in that photostream are taken by official government photographers, they're in the public domain. For a while, they were being posted there under some cc license, but after a number of us complained, Flickr changed the license to indicate its lack of copyright as a work of the federal government. The "restrictions" on use probably derive from personality rights, I suppose, because they cannot come from any sort of copyright restrictions. I don't understand why they think they can legally prevent the photos from being manipulated in any way.

Obama has not been making the most of social media during his presidency. I believe he could be more effective in the debate on health care reform, renewable energy and restoring America's image as a human rights defender around the world.
