Mashable - The Social Media Guide: Obama Assassination Poll Rocks Facebook

  • daljeet2 · 2 months ago
Hmm. Well, I'm sure there are more “Should <insert person here> be killed?” polls out there, but nice to see Facebook stepping in. US secret service to be involved.. lol wow.
  • robintaylorroth · 2 months ago
That is appalling! Whatever one's political views, in the United States of America, we have legal, peaceful ways of changing governments.

Such behavior should not be tolerated by any of the social media hosts.
  • Name · 2 months ago
    I'm with you!
  • callmechaz · 2 months ago
Robin, I agree that at this point in time it is appalling. However, we really are losing the legal, peaceful ways of changing government, and people are beginning to realize that. Taking it out on Obama is unfair, as both sides of thes aisle are guilty. I can't really vote out my liberal Republican senator because the RNC won't run a good conservative who can beat her. They don't want to lose her powerful chairmanship seat. All have been in too long and have created a power structure that was shunned by our Founding Fathers. Their energy is not spent representing us, but instead is spent preserving their "jobs" and the jobs of one another--growing powerful by using our money and limiting our freedoms.

There were supposedly legal, peaceful ways for changing government in Merry Old England 250 years ago. However, the House of Commons also stopped representing the people, but kept raising and collecting their taxes. After a while, a bunch of "wack jobs" took particular exception to this and America was born.

You would think our government would look on this as a warning from the past. You would think they would advise one another to stop the power battles and go back to representing us. They feel threatened because they have no intention of representing us then going back home. They want to stay in power for life, like little kings, and that is not what was intended.

FaceBook did the right thing taking down this offensive post. Perhaps today it is simply a disturbed individual, or maybe a stupid attempt to draw attention. If things don't change, I fear that one day it will be a sign of the times.

The following is a post from Callmechaz.....

"Name, aren't you the one who just said when you read social commentary "it denegrates into questioning each others intelligence, name-calling etc." Perhaps you should slow down and read your last two posts... the ones where you refer to others as naive, racist, lacking in character, etc.. This is a typical elitist trait--one that Obama and many of his cronies exhibit. You go on to chastise tiredofpeople for not posting serious debate. Why didn't you respond to his question about racial motivation for attacks on Bush, and his lack of racial motivation towards Obama. I guess it's easier to take the cheap shot and ignore any real debate yourself. You may want to take the plank from your own eye before you pick specks from the eyes of others. But then you would have to turn in the Elitist Club membership badge--and you look so important wearing it! "

My response...Chaz - you have over-looked the fact that there are several guests who appear as "Name", and you have lumped us all in as the same person. Yes I did comment on "tired of people" - because I don't like the attitude that everybody who disagrees with someone must be stupid. That is intolerance in itself. I don't like intolerance of any kind.

I did NOT write a post using words like "naive" / "racist" ....that would have been another poster also appearing as "Name". None of this has to do with politics. It has to do with the fact that somebody out there has introduced an app calling for people to vote on whether or not a human being should be killed. He is a human being. A person. It is irrevelevant whether or not we like him or agree with him. His color of skin is also irrelevant...to me anyway.

I do not "take cheap shots," nor am I an "elitist" (again - you are referring to another poster) and I would like to think that I speak my mind respectfully - no - I KNOW that I do. So your sarcasm and anger is wasted I`m afraid.

  • thhalejr · 2 months ago
There's a lot wrong with your logic. If you live in a state that has a Republican senator, that senator cannot be a chairperson of any committee at the present time. Democrats hold the majority of the seats in the Senate, thus they hold all of the chairpersons' seats. This has been the case since 2006, so your premise falls woefully short on that point.

There is never any reason to not completely and unequivocally condemn this type of activity from anyone, so veiled statements about violence in your statements are completely wrong and illogical also.
  • Walter · 2 months ago
And, if the poll had been "Should Paris Hilton be shot?" nobody would have batted an eye.
  • Saundra Robinson · 2 months ago
No matter what your political views, this sort of thing is appalling. This country has seen it's share of assassinations and mass murders. Why would someone want to glorify such a terrible thought. Remember, I said, NO MATTER WHAT YOUR POLITICAL VIEWS for those who have issues with this President. With Columbine and 911, etc always present in our history, we, as a people, need to stop the hating. Hatred is such a waste of energy and proves the shallow mind of the perpetrator!
  • Sociologist · 2 months ago
    Well said Saundra!
  • businessclix · 2 months ago
what you "sheeple" out there arent getting is the hatred towards obama is not RACIST HATRED you fools, so stop pulling the race card. every time you pull the race card you give these pathetic criminal politicians more power and fuel there sickening agenda.

why dont you all take a few minutes and go actually investigate what the hatred is about. why dont you all actually go investigate what your beloved government is actually up to before you defend this clown obama.

If you knew the truth, you wouldnt defend him , and you wouldnt defend any of those pathetic liars up there in your government.

but you wont investigate, your too damn lazy, you would rather do as they say, and never question anything.

so go take your swine flu shots people, big pharma needs lots more money from you suckers...
  • saniiro · 2 months ago
It doesn't matter if it's racist hate, sexist hate, or hate hate, when some one threatens the life of another, it becomes an issue. Like I said earlier on another post, a more mature poll would have been, 'Should Obama be impeached?'. What amuses me the most is that you somehow believe all people who support Obama believe in supporting a horrible heath care system where medical corps cherry pick the best and beat down the rest.
  • Name · 2 months ago
Hate is hate. Regardless of whether it's about the race card or cus you don't like his shoes. Your entire post seems to be about hate. How about some fruitful debate? Might be more useful, don't ya think?

This is not about defending the "clown" (as you put it) Obama - it is about inciting people to think about whether a certain person should be killed or not. If I created an app that asked the same question, but used the name of someone you cared about instead of Obama - would that be ok?

Nice to see how a joke can bring the national security team on their nerves. I loled hard.

nothing funny about murder. tasteless and disrespectful.
  • manfrommke · 2 months ago
oh crap, then we need to stop the war AND abortion, how the hell's that going to happen?
  • truthywood · 2 months ago
No body have abortion for their hatred against fetus. Yes war must be definitely stopped. These neocon thugs only bankrolled (with tax payers money) those wars , They made their buddies in arms industries richer and sucked the blood of poor Americans.
  • Chris Goddard · 2 months ago
A joke? Some twisted sense of humor you have...
  • Leonardo Aranda · 2 months ago
There are over 30 death threats a day against the president. If you think this was just a joke, you are naive. If in addition to that, you find it funny (the joke and/or the reaction), you should be ashamed.
  • kevinarth · 2 months ago
This "Joke" was not funny. Threats against the President are not 'amusing.' The Secret Service are not paid to have a sense of humor where the safety of the President is concerned.

If you think this was funny, there's something seriously wrong with you.
  • manfrommke · 2 months ago
eh, if being investigated by the SS is your idea of fun, I think you have unusual tastes, but I won't judge
  • dyegov · 2 months ago
Yes I still think this is a joke. Have seen it many times. Not because someone says "Oh my gawd look!!! how do you think the president should die?" that doesn't mean it's a threat. I have seen many many more people die, why should be this more important? I certainly don't know.
  • truthywood · 2 months ago
What about poll like "Should Americans be killed ?", Will that also be a Joke ?
  • dyegov · 2 months ago
Yes, it would still be a joke. If someone wanted to go and kill Americans (or the president on this case) He/She would just go and do it, not just come and brag about it on the internet w/o actually doing it...
  • callmechaz · 2 months ago
Ah, what world do you live in Truthy? Iran's leader says that Americans should be wiped from the planet just about every day! I don't see anyone in our current administration taking it serious. It a JOKE! As they complete the bomb-proof nuclear reactor they weren't building, Obama cancels the European missle shield because he "determined they are not as far along as we thought"! Now our Dear Leader is going to sit and chat with him as though their Dear Leader is sane. You question should read is "Should Americans be killed?" a joke, or is it a rhetorical question.
  • Name · 2 months ago
In my head - this has nothing to do with him being President. He is a human being. If someone created a poll like this saying "Should (remove President's name and insert your child/best friend/ mother's/brother's name ) be killed? " And posted it on Facebook for all the world to see - How would you view it then? . As a human being, Obama does not deserve this, Just as you or I don't deserve this. HE IS A PERSON. Regardless of his politics. If the poll had been created about someone close to you, you would be horrified. Doesn't Obama as a human being deserve better?
  • dyegov · 2 months ago
Then that would be my concern, not the entire world's

I think that it was a horrible pole...but why should facebook be held responsible? Or even the third party developer? Shouldn't the writer be held responsible?
  • aboutjer · 2 months ago
That is horrible. I can't believe this is happening in 2009. I'm glad Facebook stepped in. There is enough hate out there on the web; it doesn't need to be in FB.
  • Stephen · 2 months ago
I agree with you that this was not the right way to do things. I however wish to point out that people are getting fed up with the crooked politics in the US government and being run into the ground by people who have the money yet chose to use that money which should be in the American peoples pockets. We are pretty tired of it all and this is one way, though wrong of expressing this discord out there.
  • aboutjer · 2 months ago
Hey, expressing disgust and anger about government policies and politics is part of the beauty of our country. Asking is one should "kill" another, let alone the president, is an entirely different matter. Like it was said by Stephen, there are other places to express these sentiments on the web other than FB.
  • Michelle Potter · 2 months ago
Absolutely. I'm one of those who is disgusted and angry about the direction our government is going. I don't have any problems with the TEA party protests, the angry constituents confronting their representatives in public townhalls, the 9/12 march on Washington. I would like to see people argue about the actual ISSUES instead of calling names, but free speech includes the right to stick your fingers in your ears and yell, "RACIST!" (Or "COMMIE!") You can roll your eyes and wish people would knock it off, but it shouldn't be illegal.

However, suggesting the assassination of a sitting President is beyond the pale, even by implication or as a joke. A person of any political stripe should feel free to condemn such a threat without qualification and without needing to justify legitimate political action that is not even remotely comparable.
  • Jimmy. · 3 weeks ago
I think you're incredibly naïve, talking about "killing" as if it's different than expressing disgust or anger. It's in the same bucket. Whether or not you think it's moral is another argument in itself, but the fact is that it's not horrible.
Death is all around us, and this country was designed with the notion that a tyrant will be thrown out when they violate our inalienable rights. According to my calculations, we're long overdue for some new blood on capitol hill.
I have a simple question for the whole lot of you though, who preach all this bit about usurping the incumbent politicians in lieu of violence: How in the hell do you intend to manage that? Sit down and think about that one for about 5 seconds. We have a corrupt two-party system, one where people don't vote by the issue, and solely by party lines. People think voting independent is "throwing away" their vote. THAT is a problem.
Another question: What is 'sane'? Everyone on here is saying he's a "wackjob", or some other variation on that; is it possible, dare I say more likely, that you're a bunch of sheep? Bitch about Bush, Reagan, Clinton and Carter all you want, but NONE of them came close to the ridiculous policies of Barack Obama. Not to mention his condemnation of our soldiers by refusing McChrystal's request... He is a fool, and infringing upon your liberties more and more everyday.
Is this a call to arms? No, of course not. I'm posing questions, questions I'd like to see answered. I also wonder, if in thirty years, will people look back and say: "Why didn't someone just shoot the bastard?", as we do when speaking of other lovely, charismatic socialist leaders, like Hitler, Stalin, and Mao. Just a thought.
  • Douglas Paul · 2 months ago
disgusting but i expect people to think it's no big deal. unfortunately it's never a big deal until some wackjob feels buoyed by stuff like this and goes out and does something. then again, it's just another piece of telling evidence that there is no such thing as a "post racial" america.
  • mikemonty · 2 months ago
No kidding, do you remember the news talking about those guys who were traveling to D.C. to assassinate Pres. Obama if he got elected? They sounded like they were out of their heads... On the other side people will always be stupid and target presidents for their own problems.. I'm curious if this was truly a racial thing or just a republicans kid taking things to an extreme?
  • Joanne Glasspoole · 2 months ago
Douglas, not to be disrepectful, but what's the likelihood that a wackjob neds to respond to a poll in order to get a crazy idea? Chances are pretty good, the wackjob has been obsessing about his crazy idea for a very long time. Chances are also pretty good, a person doesn't suddenly become a wackjob because they're socializing with friends and/or killing time responding to polls & self quizzes on Facebook.
  • julescator · 2 months ago
No, people become wackjobs which they hate Black People and a Black person becomes President. simple! And we must admit that there are more people than we would like to think that hate Blacks. Look at the ACORN attacks - if we were to investigate Black Water - indicted for killing 5 people - I think we would remove contract money from them immediately. We know what the US is (racist) we just don't know how much!
  • tiredofpeople · 2 months ago
Don't you uneducated individuals read the news paper...This poll has NOTHING to do with black people. President Bush got LOTS of assassination comments so are you saying its because he's white? Were those just black people wanting to kill Bush? THe only racist people are the ones that jump straight to those assumptions because you are biggoted and biased. I didn't vote for Obama because I didn't believe in his beliefs and NOT because he's black. I suspect you're 14 anyways or don't know how to read.
  • Harvey814 · 2 months ago
FYI, there have always been wackjobs threatening the President. (Presidents, Prime Ministers, Kings of whatever country you want to pick.) There have been plenty of plans, attempts, as well as assassinations of US Presidents, in the past. All of those guys were white.
ACORN. Black Water. We could name (point fingers) at many more. The truth is that there is likely at least a kernel of truth to all of the allegations. Finger pointing. "I know you are, but what am I?" These are the tricks of magicians ... Misdirecting us, so we don't notice what's actually happening.
The US is racist? I am a US Citizen. I don't consider myself racist. I judge people individually, based on their behavior, not their ethnicity nor the melanin content of their epidermis.
People who point fingers and call people names (and, yes ... "Racist" is a name) only serve to divide us further, rather than to unite.
The one and only thing that we all have in common is that we are all different. Shouldn't we embrace our differences, rather than hate them?
  • Step and Rob · 2 months ago
I don't think your correct. I hate Obama not because he's black and certainly not because I hate black people. I think this president is worse than Bush will ever be. He is continuing everything the Bush administration did, reinforcing it and empowering it while we lose our freedom. Only someone as ignorant as you would use the racist wildcard like a crutch. Look at all the legislation. None of it is in favor of education, healthcare, farming, infrastructure, family values, big business and small business. What fuckin' rock do you live under? They are one single party and they always have been so no matter who you vote for your still voting for them. They are ushering in a single world government that has taken over all the nations federal reserves but you dont see it do you? Because you like so many others cant see the bigger picture. Dumbass. So you can keep paying for their digital loans while the elite enjoy supercapitalism and you are left with socialism...the kind that pays for their wars, their luxuries, their fun. Shithead.
  • Name · 2 months ago
This is actually a reply to "tired of people" ....but for some reason this was the only person to whom I could not reply...hmmmm....I agree with you Julescator. It is insane in this day and age that we hate based on race or color or religion or anything else. Hate is bad all around.

The following is directed at "tired of people"....

Everytime I read comments about a social issue, it denegrates into questioning each others intelligence, name-calling etc. Wow. That's useful. What the hell is compelling you to talk in such a condescending manner to people who are here to debate an important issue? You feed the fire of disrespect. If people cared enough about an issue, they would debate it in a respectful manner. ...do something in their own lives to make a positive difference.

No matter how small the contribution, at least you'd be doing your part instead of being an arm-chair activist, who gets annoyed at the outrageousness of this world, but simmers in it - instead of attempting to make some contribution to make it better. I don't doubt that you are intelligent. But I do doubt what kind of character you bring to the table. We are all just trying to get through this life. You cared enough to take the time and effort to post your opinion....wouldnt it be more useful to build an army of people for change, rather than alienating yourself from everyone else by your comments? What a waste of energy.
  • texas8707 · 2 months ago
Can anyone out there think any deeper than saying disagreement with Obama is about race? What about all the white politicians that are greatly disliked? Interesting fact that the association between Nancy Pelosi, President Obama, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, anyone named Kennedy and any politician that talks out of both sides of his mouth and wastes monstrous amounts of taxpayers money while showing indifference to national security needs, etc..., the common denominator is their political philosophy, not their skin color. Although looking at the above list of names, all but one is white. Am I being racist if I disagree with all those white people because the most notable one happens to be black? If you can't see beyond the race card on this, then you may never get beyond a racial view of the world. The people complaining about bad policy that are being called racist are not the racists in this situation. The ones calling them racist are the ones expressing racial prejudice. The reason so many people are expressing anger now is because they have disagreed with these policies for years and now those policies are being pushed with an "in your face" attitude and will clearly infringe on the liberty of most Americans.

You are naive, Joanne, if you truly believe that the accessibility of polls that should be unheard of, yet express many peoples' secretly held beliefs, are harmless and have no effect. Case in point is the growth and spread of child pornography, since the Internet has allowed people of similar sick desires to hook up with each other. The belief that people agree with and support a vile idea that some sicko has floating around in his brain, may be the final push that person needs to take action. The right wing news media, with their nonstop anti-Obama coverage and support of anything and anyone against him, no matter how vitriolic, are responsible for irresponsible polls such as this one. More and more, people think it is okay to let their racism show, and no one calls them on it, because everyone hears it, over and over. (You know, everyone feels that way, so it's okay!) We are not going forward--we are going backward. How sad.

You may be right, but if i'm a whackjob sitting in my closet thinking how much I hate someone, I'm less likely to take violent action than if I engage socially with other whackjobs on the Internet who have the same thoughts. they feed off of each other and create the kind of dangerous environment that leads to events like the death of George Tiller.

    Hi Joanne,

I think that fm now on there will be more "wackjobs" coming into fruition. I see it aimed at the president but it is only because he has the power to change things and do good, However I do not think that he has done much good at all and will run the country into the ground by his lack of commitment ot actually doing good. SO corruption will continue running rampant, you and I will still have to continue financing bail-outs, foreign aid, Oh yeah and the new "green" car project that has the $500M plus loan from the government that will create jobs in Finland or wherever and sell for $89,000.00. I know I will not be able to afford that, how about you? The American people are being run by the governent, not the other way around. It does no good for us, our money lines their pockets. People are sick of the abuse and getting a way to vent.
  • Twilightred · 2 months ago
Exactly. Sure, this will not directly cause someone who's looking at this poll to take violent action who never contemplated it, but it is the proverbial straw on the camel's back. It could also indicate violent intent on the part of the poll creator and each and every threat must be taken seriously.
  • Stephen · 2 months ago
I do not know if this was racially motivated, it would not have been on my part anyways. It was wrong to do what was done but it goes to show that people are getting fed up with the crooked US government. I myself disagree with having to bail out auto makers, banks, whatever else might come along, out of my own pocket, out of your pocket, but the Government uses threats and power to scare its own people into fianancing its overseas projects and lining its own pockets.

WOW, what the hell has happened to America? Or should I spell that Amerika. He didn't kill anybody, he didn't plan on it. It was just a poll. But hell, let's put him in prison for 50 years. That should teach all you conservatives out there not to mess with Hussein Obama! How about all the polls to kill Bush, where was the outrage, where was the secret service. Oh wait, we want dialogue ONLY when we are the ones saying what we can dialogue about. That is another name for tyranny by the way.
  • notfunny902 · 2 months ago
almetcalf.... this is NOT a conservative vs. liberal issue. EVERY threat against the President is taken seriously by the Secret Service. Yes, even the ones against President Bush. Just because you didn't hear about those investigations doesn't mean they didn't happen. Trust me. They happened all the time.
  • Name · 2 months ago
You need to know the law. The poll is an indirect threat against the President and needs to be dealt with. It is not a casual or laughing matter.
  • callmechaz · 2 months ago
I sort of agree with almetcalf. Stupidity is not generally against the law. If it were most politicians would be locked up and our national problems would be solved. FaceBook has a right to take it down because they feel it is offensive and could limit their profitablity (dang Capitolists).

I'm not sure an "'indirect' threat to the president" is (or should be) against the law. You are walking a fine line on freedom of speech trying to define "indirect". Are politicians an "indirect threat" to Obama's safely because they incite violence by ignoring their constituents. You can go anywhere with that sort of logic.
  • larrythewineguy · 2 months ago

This is not "fun." This is dangerous rhetoric that can get people hurt. So, yes, he should be prosecuted, even if he ends up being a 12 year old. I'm not suggesting 50 years in prison as Mr. Right-Wingnut almetcalf suggested below, but this shouldn't be allowed to happen. I have two young teens of my own and they wouldn't think about doing something so stupid.
  • Juanita Treat · 2 months ago
    Agreed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Stephen · 2 months ago
Then you are taking away freedom of speech. Freedom of expression. Yea, this was excessive, The government will eventually take this away as well. So one day when you privately say that you hate something that the president is doing and someone else ovehears then reports you, then you go to jail. The author of the poll never said he would kill anyone, just asking who was for it. It is a product of the govenment's abuse of it's power. Did you get a choice in paying into bailing out the banking system, or the auto makers? What about the federal taxes you pay for which there is no legal basis, no law? And all of the other taxes popping up left and right, crooked politicians taking bribes and making money under the table in illegal ways? People are just tired od all the corruption in the US Government, all of the double standards, as there are the "haves", mostly powerfull politicians with the money... by the way spending yours and pocketing yours, and then the "have-nots", that wouls be us, The American people. What else is there?
  • larrythewineguy · 2 months ago
It is not freedom of speech to incite murder. It doesn't matter if he didn't actually say he was about to kill the president. Freedom of speech does not mean you can say whatever you want whenever you want. You cannot incite or conspire to commit a crime regardless of the actual words used. I suppose his wording could be construed as merely querying others, but that's what the courts are for.

As far as the other issue you bring up about a choice in paying for bailing out the banking system and automakers: Yes, you did have a choice. I don't think it was a good idea either, but we have a representative democracy and our representatives whom we elected chose to approve the bailouts. Vote them out of office next time.

And the Federal Income Tax is permitted under the 16th Amendment to the Constitution, so not sure why you say it's not legal.
  • dyegov · 2 months ago
It's not legal but it benefits us so lets just make a law that makes it legal! <- Yay for polititians!!! ...
  • jen · 2 months ago
If freedom of speech does not mean that you can say what you want anymore, what does it mean? I don't agree with this poll being funny or amusing, but I would like to know what freedom of speech really means these days. Maybe the media should not have brought it to the attention of everyone. Are they not instigating nut jobs to do more of this?
  • Name · 2 months ago
Freedom of Speech? It is in the eye of the speaker. Freedom of speech has become something completely "other" than for which it was intended. Freedom of speech is a dream of an ideal; I can say anything I want. But if I try to proclaim that all black people are less, or gays should be bashed - or encourage any violence, or sexual fantasies about children (The list goes on and on....) - I can still say it - but should I be given a public platform to do so? -So that I can incite more hatred, more violence? Do we not want to stop these things in our society?? As a whole, we need to do what is right for society in general, and look at the bigger picture. No-one is going to take away your right to criticise political issues, or protest - or say what you wanna say. We are doing that right now on this forum. As far as going to jail for something said in a private conversation - I would really hope that the apathy will break before people - the masses - would ever allow that.

I am a Sociologist - and I am convinced that we all are responsible for society as a whole. And for what it has become. Every one of us. The answer to the world's ills in my lowly opinion - is respect for one another and for the direction society takes. If there was respect for your spouse, there would be no cheating. If there was respect for children, there would not be violence in music. If there was respect for different races, there would not be race-based violence. If there was respect for society as a whole - there would not be XXX video stores on every corner - you get the idea.

We ALL have shaped the society that we live in. Either by our apathy - or active participation.

WE are the ones with the power. We just don't realise it.

I agree, what you are saying is what I have tried to explain to my liberal friends. Free speech may be "free" but there are repercussions.

You can say whatever you want BUT there is a consequence to free speech. Just like I can protest the tax laws but I have to be willing to go to prison for that stance.

To me, free speech is standing there listening to a person say at the top of his lungs what you would spend a lifetime protesting at the top of yours.

But back to the issue, I agree with Obama on about .0000000000001% of his policies, but I would never wish him dead. I don’t like it, but he is the president. I will respect the office but protest the man and his policies. I will NEVER disrespect the office or my country!

With every “right” comes a responsibility. Unfortunately today, everyone has a right but nobody has a responsibility.

Let's turn this poll around and ask:

Should Obama be allowed to make American senior citizens die early by cutting half a trillion dollars from Medicare?

    __ Yes

    __ No

Let's make the conservative assumption that Obama's attack on the elderly will cause the affected people to die an average of 6 months earlier. Since 44 million are now on Medicare, that's a total of 22 million years of life that will be destroyed. Assuming an average life span of 65 years, that is the equivalent of over 300,000 assassinations!

Obama is currently 48 years old. So let's make the generous assumption that he could be expected to live 22 more years, to the age of 70. The question then is: what should be causing us the most concern, one person losing 22 years of life, or all of our nation's seniors losing a million times that much?

So do you suppose that the U.S. Secret Service will be investigating this administration's senior genocide plot? I doubt it.

BTW, my answer to both of these polls is NO.

It is not reasonable to expect Facebook to monitor? I'm thinking we should demand it. We expect such service from stores we visit, companies whose services we engage, etc,.

Facebook is a business. Rich beyond belief.

It is their business to do what is right - just like we expect every other business in society to do what is right. Why should we not hold the internet to account?
  • larrythewineguy · 2 months ago
Facebook did remove it. I meant to say they are not accountable for what people post there, but they can and should remove offensive posts. A court can order them to reveal who does the postings, but like the phone company or the post office, people send offensive things without the carrier being responsible for the content.
  • mikemonty · 2 months ago
Wow! That's intense, I can't believe some people or why they would do that... Well I did go to high school once (class of 08), so I could believe that SOME people would do it... But that's going to be one difficult group to police, I say find a way to allow app creators to make moderators who would then moderate and police their own content, keeping it in line with facebooks terms of service as well as the applications own terms of service, anything that slips through the gaps in this case and spreads would have a 'report to moderator/admin' tagged on it and could be dealt with. Just my thoughts...

    What do you think?

  • larrythewineguy · 2 months ago

  • saniiro · 2 months ago
A much better poll w/o causing chaos would have been titled, 'Should Obama be impeached?' You can speak out all you want, the KKK and other hate groups like Neo Nazis still speak out in public, but Facebook owns Facebook, they have the right to silence anyone who uses it that they feel are violating the policies they have set up or in general being an idiot.
  • kevinarth · 2 months ago
you have a right to voice your opinion about anything as long as you aren't advocating (for example) the murder of the President. You have no right to incite violence against anyone, let alone the President of the United States.

This poll has nothing to do with who's "Tired of Obama." it specifically asks if he should be killed. No room is left for ambiguity in the author's intent. I hope they get hammered for this stupid crap.

I think it's the inherent dichotomy with social networking. You want to leave things open so people can work and create without limits but it allows people to possibly introduce negative elements. Facebooks actions are within the norm for how these things go. You rely on the "good" in the network to weed out the bad.
  • FrankReed · 2 months ago
While the subject matter is way out of line the fact is that Facebook appears to be heading toward the point where they will need to either clamp down or just police their deal as best they can. Part of the social media conundrum is when do you say "No you can't do that!" and not be viewed as being repressive. Washington Post got an earful today for telling reporters what they can and cannot do. Imagine the Facebook developer outcry if they feel censored.
  • gwoodard · 2 months ago
Facebook appears to have no vetting process whatsoever to screen out miscreants because that would affect the bottom line. They basically wait, and react only after damage is done or data is mishandled.

Why is a low-tech call for an Obama assassination so outrageous while a high-tech version of a Bush assassination is no big deal? Does anyone remember "Death of a President" where Bush's face was digitally overlaid on an actor taking a bullet? Both are wrong, but the outrage on a simple (and stupid) Facebook app is disproportionate to the yawn over the wishful gunning down of Bush on television.
  • Duh · 2 months ago
Randy - One was a piece of fiction about what might happen IF President Bush was assinated, the other was asking whether President Obama should actually BE assassinated in real life. If you can't understand the difference between movies and reality, seek medical help.

Facebook like anything else on the internet which allows anyone to type anything they want when ever they want and hide behind a screenname is just another reason most of the internet is a wasteland of lazyness and very poor behavior. It's just another waste of time toy for poorly socialized individuals. There has evolved this unrealistic beliefe that everything is accurate and if it's written down it must be true or at least valaid. Come on people, get a life and stop blaming everyone for your problems. Problems you developed by accepting this technology as some type of salvation for mankind. I spend some time on the internet, but choose to stay in the dark ages and off the grid by avoiding instant chat, social networking sites, and twitter. People ask me how I am able to function without these things, and I must laugh. My question is whow cabn one function properly with these distractions.

Common sense would dictate that an on-going monitoring for keywords, character strings with wildcards, etc. would help to address the potential problems. No, Facebook cannot police 100%, but some proactive, preventative actions would be prudent!

Why do people assume this is racial??? I remember someone made a movie about president Bush being assassinated. There were a lot of people who thought it was disgusting and many who said it was a free speech issue. So, there was a lot of hubbub about it too but nobody was suggesting it was racial.

You don't have to play the race card anytime someone says something bad about Obama, and in the end, does it really matter if it's racial, political, wacko, religious, sexual, etc... The implied threat is still the same. Just ask the Secret Service.

What a cop out! If Google can check and approve AdWords ads - of which there are a lot more than 350,000 - Facebook CAN be expected check apps. If they hired an offshore team, they could probably check hundreds of thousands of apps for a couple million dollars per year. It's probably worth it just to avoid the potential lawsuits.

after all this is america and we still have freedom of speech like all rights must be tempered with responceability after he won which means we either impeach him (assuming he does an impeachable offence) or grin and bear it till next election.

with that said the person who made the poll is who should brunt the secret service wrath many people missuse things of good pourpose and mabe the app creator could install some safeguards but is not responcible for a nut who abused his tool

Yes, such a poll is pretty silly. But how many liar or death to George W. Bush did we see during his 8-yr period? Several ... from many media forms (books, film, comics, etc.) Why is there a double standard just because Obama happens to be a liberal black democrat? Yes, Facebook shouldn't allow such potentially problematic polls on ANY topic. For all we know, this could be the left attempting to make the far right seem like racist pigs, which from what I have seen ... is pretty rampant on BOTH axis, left and right.

  • csread · 2 months ago
I think given the scale of users, the community needs to come together to do some policing. While I'm all for free speech, there are limits, and this incidence is an illustration of what going too far looks like. It is a security issue as we don't know what real threats are mixed in with people just venting. We need to alert the administrators of these social sites when something looks abusiv. They can't possibly do it themselves with the staff they have the volume of what's being posted.
  • Name · 2 months ago
I do agree with you. We need to learn how to police the internet. But ....I have no sympathy for Facebook, or any other web-site that "can't be expected" to monitor everything. We need as a society to find better ways of handling the internet.

It really gets me when people feel like they have to vilify their political opposition. It makes me crazy when those on "my" side (conservative) can't talk about Obama without intentionally mangling his name (Obummer, Obambi, etc.) or saying anyone voting for so-and-so politician or such-and-such policy can't be a Christian. Then on the left you have people insisting that any and every objection to Obama's policies MUST be rooted in racism, or equating talk show rhetoric with death threats.

You know what? There always have been and always will be a few crazy people on pretty much any side. Same with racists. But MOST people on BOTH SIDES are just genuinely concerned about this country and honestly believe that their political views are best, and trying to discredit them with wild accusations is disingenuous. I'm not saying we have to sit quietly and refuse to discuss politics lest someone's precious sensibilities be offended, but can we please have our loud, vigorous, passionate, heartfelt debate while remembering that those on the other side are people, too? When we feel stirred by the issues can we take to the streets with our handmade signs and protest without being called godless unAmerican traitors or racist Astro-turfed Nazis?

And when someone pulls an incredibly stupid stunt and suggests that our President (Bush, Obama, anyone) be assassinated, can we stop the finger pointing at anyone except the idiot who actually did it?

Oh, and by the way, even if someone did try to take a shot at Obama, it wouldn't necessarily be racist. Politicians have been assassinated for centuries, longer, without race as an issue.

I'll start. This is me, a dyed-in-the-cloth conservative who opposes Obama on virtually everything, saying that I hope whoever started that poll is investigated, and if they broke any laws, prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I hope no harm ever comes to Obama until he dies from old age, quietly and peacefully and surrounded by those who loved him.

Why do we have to over-hype everything when it deals with President Obama? A lot of people out there hated Bush and wanted him dead. Is it, because we got our 8 years worth of bashing, now we have to go 4 (possibly 8) years of blind obedience to a figure whose figure has spawned a cult of personality? Give me a break, I despised Bush, and I despise Obama, so any uneducated fool who wants to call me a conservative go right ahead, because it will just show your stupidity. Some teenager probably made this stuff anyways, it's a possibility he/she was curious about how many people thought he should be killed. This shouldn't be something our government should be meddling in, and Facebook should just ban the user and delete their poll. Truth be told, there ARE people out there who want him dead, whether it be Al-Qaeda, North Korea, or your next door neighbor.

Does it matter? It gives people an opportunity to voice their opinion. How longer are we going to be able to do that? Obama is nothing more than a corrupt Capitalist that is going to lead this country to nowhere fast. This is a trend that sadly won't go away. Have fun voting your freedom away, dear America.

And before anyone accuses me of being a racist (I've heard this on here a few times) I'm not. I believe anyone, regardless of race or gender, can be president. It is by their merits, not by the color of their skin or sex, that determine whether or not they should hold their position.
  • illigx · 2 months ago
aboutjer, it doesnt matter what year it is. As long as there is a party that has power over a mass of people, someone in that mass will always want the controlling party dead, end of story. It has happened throughout history, and will continue to happen for the rest of human history. You have to take the good with the bad when it comes to free speech and the internet. If you would like to enjoy the freedom to post good things on there, everyone has to realize that someone will post something they don't like. Will this kind of thing always happen? Yes.

    Dear Natalie,
While it is true that the President is well guarded and an assassination attempt would be difficult, it is not impossible. For one thing, you are completely wrong about the President having "stunt doubles." That is pure Hollywood fiction -- in real life there are no Obama look-alikes out there giving speeches while the "real" President hides away. Secondly, you do not have to look all the way back to "Abraham Lincoln" days for attempts on an American president's life. Kennedy was killed while surrounded by the Secret Service. Reagan was shot and wounded (his lung was punctured) leaving the Washington Hilton after giving a speech in 1981. That was less than a month before I was born, and I am not even 30. You don't believe that anyone would be willing to risk jail to kill Obama, but there have been reports that he receives as many as 30 death threats a day. Clearly there are people willing to risk jail just to make the threat -- to assume that none of them would actually go through with it is dangerously naive.

The Secret Service has to investigate every threat to the President's life or safety. That is part of what keeps the President so safe and makes an assassination so difficult. The Secret Service has a hard enough job just investigating legitimate threats even when a President is popular. Having to chase down idiots who think it's funny to post polls suggesting a sitting President be killed makes their jobs harder and thins their resources, which IMO is reason enough to prosecute -- sort of like going after people who make false police reports.

And that's coming from a conservative mom in Houston, who doesn't like this President's agenda but still doesn't want to see him harmed.

It shows that there are violent thinking people out there, to even think (let alone create a poll) about having the leader of the country (who is just trying to do his best to balance the various dilemmas that the country is facing) be killed is nothing short of disturbing. it is a big deal when people are thinking this way for real. if it was a joke, then it's still in very poor taste to say the least.

We are in two wars right now to stop terrorist in other countries. It seems to me that we have our own homegrown terrorist right here in the good ole USA. A true patriot is someone who is behind our leaders not this. When Bush and Chaney were in for 8 years most listened to every word and they were ALL lies. They destroyed us in so many ways with their geed and selfishness and two wars. When they sold Palin on us that was the topper of being able to lead us around by the nose. They could sell us shit and we thought it was chocolate, yummy. If anyone had said the things they are saying now they would have been arrested. The real truth is the people that are spreading all those lies about Obama should be taken off the air or better yet arrested. I would love to see Roush and all his cronies gone. All they are doing is causing all this unrest for the purpose of ciaos. Rile up the masses so the lye is spread even faster. Make it believable so the followers [and there are many] will yell it from the rooftops. You are the real socialists and even worse a true communist. Keep it up stupid you are working hard at destroying this beautiful country we live in. Free speech was meant to be able to tell the true, not to tell lies that are believable and get away with it. Plausible deniability.

    Wow,
I have not read all the posts and I do not promote the poll.
I also do not believe it is necessary for the SS to go after the individual for making such a poll.

Anyone here send the SS after the film maker of "Death of a President", which explicitly depicted the assassination of GWB? No you did not and it was called a serious film.
How about all the bloggers who posted their wishes that someone would assassinate GWB?

All your feigned outrage is hypocrisy of the best kind. We the American people can see you for your double standard and dictatorial ideals. Arrest and incarcerate those that disagree with Obama. Seems you guys where complaining about this under Bush. Now the shoes on the other foot and you don't like it. Ah to bad. Maybe next time you will think about your actions if you do not want them repeated upon yourself.
    or
    What goes around, comes around.

It is very disturbing that someone would want any member of society killed, especially the President of the United States. I may not agree with everything President Obama says but I most certainly have to respect the Office. I'm relieved to see that Facebook is stepping in and taking control of the problem. I think there is way too much trash on Facebook but at the same time Freedom of speech should not be taken away. It's a fine line. But in the case of a poll threatening President Obama, it is very appropriate for Secret Service to step in. That is there job, to protect the President and national security. When it becomes a threat to security, then yes, it should most definitely be handled by higher authority.

When Obama won the presidency, the right wing nuts were left shocked and paralized by the unthinkable. For a while we didn't hear coherent words from them. They finally woke up from their stun and here they are, nuttier than ever. As their crazy and dangerous behaviour escalated to the "You lie" point, it was our turn to be shocked and paralized by the unthinkable. But at least for me, a poll in FACEBOOK ASKING IF A OUR PRESIDENT SHOULD BE KILLED OR NOT, was the last drop. I'm not interesting in leading a movement against Facebook, but... you do what you have to do. I'm just saying we have to stop the right fringe extremism NOW, because it' becoming fast a matter of life and death. I can't do anything against the anonymous creator of that poll. He embraced his dark side, so I trust the dark side will embrace him back soon. Most probably in the poetic (justice) form of a large, lonely and horny as hell cell companion. But I can close my account with Facebook, and I did. I don't care about their "third-parties add-on applications" nerdy excuses. The Facebook social network must be held responsable, the same way a TV network will if they cross a similar line. You can shut your Facebook account only A WEEK or a DAY, and that act will be louder and more powerful than the recent "million moron" march to the Capitol. Take a stand.

What's retarded are the ignorant people now in the United States! Now when I say that I don't mean everyone and don't get me wrong I don't hate the United States, in fact just the opposite. I just think people of today are so ignorant that they follow whom ever speaks the loudest! To want to kill someone because you have different views of how things should be ran is the stupidest thing ever! This world is screwed up! The sad part is these people have children and they're breeding hatred into them, teaching 'em it's ok to hurt someone else because of their belief or ideas.
I'm glad America isn't the country people look upon for ideas anymore! America's no better than Iran or Israel, they kill people because of religion, views and their belief also!

America, WAKE UP!!! Start learning to coincide with one another and stop being the brain dead idiots you're portraying. If you want to change something do it the right way, stop teaching children of tomorrow to hate and more to appreciate life and care for all human beings. This world needs to stop being so angry!

USA rules without all the hatred...

I don't think your correct. This poll hurts absolutely NOBODY regardless of how "bad" you think it is. Shithead. P.S. don't tell me I'm racist. I hate nobody for what is skin deep. It's what's below the skin that I fear. It is where a human being develops his/her character. I happen to be of Mexican descent. I think the majority of Americans who hate Obama are not racist but see that this man is doing something to destroy the Bill Of Rights and the Constitution. Just look at the Patriot Act and the Acts that followed, the people he is hiring are former communists, eugenicists, free-masons, satanists, fascists. These are all subversive acts against the American people. But you bought it because your more worried about the terrorism lie. Stop being close minded and look into this. It's going to slap you in the face when you begin to see what America is really like. Its a silent revolution but because Obama has a friendly smile you really think he's a good guy. Sorry but their is nothing wrong with the facebook poll.

Problem is people like you that have never lived in a real country with socialism, and probably couldn't tell me what it means. Socialism, a new word to toss around like the word "hate", it's easy to say and do, and ignorant people like yourself love jumping on a band wagon. So tell me please, how is one American (unless you don't believe his birth certificate also) in four years going to turn this country into a socialist capital? And don't talk about education as if Bush helped that any, no child left behind, my ass! Oh, you mean no child left behind if you can afford to take the extra classes at $300 a pop!

So seriously tell me what Obama has done that is taking this county into socialism? Healthcare? Oh okay, lets talk about that! I have a brain tumor, lost my job of 7 years because of the economy, but now I can't get health care for medication or MRI's to see how bad it's getting because it's a PRE-EXISTING issue! But you're right screw everyone who can't afford it or have pre-existing issues and won't be able to get healthcare, they probably don't deserve to live anyways. We should just tell their families, look we like it the way it is so if you die to bad! This country is so religious with whatever god people pray to, but which god says to hell with all mankind live for yourself and let others perish in agony! Now, I've lived and have three beautiful kids so if I die tomorrow so be it, but there are children out there that aren't getting the same treatment as myself because of the problem with our healthcare system so if you think socialism will come about by fixing this problem, then you're a very sorry little man!

LIVE SOCIALISM THEN YOU CAN COMPLAIN ABOUT IT!!!! OTHERWISE SHUT THE HELL UP BECAUSE YOU HAVE NO CLUE TO WHAT YOU"RE SAYING!!!

A lot of ignorant comments on here are being made. A survey isn't stating people are going to kill Obama or anything its asking a question. 1. for the secret service to get involved is absurd. 2. Its just a facebook poll/quiz no more harmful than which xmen are you? 3. geez people are high strung these days. Making a poll/quiz is not a crime and nor should it be considered as one.

Just because people are offended doesn't mean you don't have the right to say it.

If someone wrote a quiz that said "Should Osama be killed?" this would not get taken off facebook. The American government isn't working for us anymore and people are realizing it and are tired of it. Plan and simple.

If words offend you then you should probably live in a more oppressive society and not try to change this country into one.

I agree with Tiredofpeople's comment and SERIOUSLY hope Mushin al Zimbabwe is being sarcastic. I am white NOT a racist and didn't vote for Obama, I didn't agree with his ideals. On that note I would like to say assasination polls will continue to be online for any president or any other person who is disliked. We have freedom of speech and it is a wonderful thing. Maybe the poll should've said "impeached" rather than assisnated.

OK , people Obama is not the first nor will he be the last president to get threats . Every United States President has got them . The CIA and FBI will investigate . Its what they do , its there job ! But good grief people don't act like its never happened before. Just because its Obama this time dose not make it a unique situation , its not ! I do think who ever started this poll has MUSH for a brain and it was a dumb ass thing to do. The FBI will find them and they will be publicly hung . But don't think that Obama is the first president to have this type of thing happen to them. Also Obama won't be the last president have this type of thing happen to them ! There are wackos out there and they flow in all parties !
  • Michelle Potter · 2 months ago
The CIA does not investigate threats made against the president; they don't even have jurisdiction on US soil. I don't know if the FBI ever lends their resources to such an investigation, but it's not their job, it's the job of the Secret Service.

Secondly, as you said, lots of presidents have been threatened and more, yes. But I don't think anyone is making a bigger deal about threats against Obama than other presidents. For one thing, there isn't a huge deal made about *every* threat made against Obama -- this is the first one I have read about. Secondly, I do remember reading about threats against Bush, so at least some of those were considered news, too. So what makes this threat newsworthy when others aren't? Simple, it's the novelty of it having been posted on Facebook -- the juxtaposition of modern technology and old-fashioned political turmoil. Let's face it, Facebook is more popular than any president in this age.

The poll was offensive (obviously) to the majority of idiots who do not understand the law. (Hilarious to those who do). There is no culpability to justify bringing a case. The announcement that "We are investigating it" is simply a way to appease you left wing "liberal idiots" who are offended by the poll. The poll is protected by that fancy rag you wipe your butt on each time you attempt to suppress the opposing point of view. Hey "stupid"...No case can or will be brought.
You going to try to arrest me if I ask a poll of how many people here think you (or a president) should be publicly b!tch smacked? just for fun?
Thousands of these polls have been going online since the marxist idiot announce he was going to drag racism through the white house over a year ago. Millions of eyes have been opened.
Here's a poll question for you:

Would you prefer to vote him out in 2012 (to save his life and whats left of Amerika) or wait to see if he actually does get assassinated by educated tax paying white guys who prefer not to have the blood of their Grandfathers pissed on by a marxist?
    Yes?
    No?
Dont give a rats azz either way?
or ...no such people exist. Oprah rulez!

Grow up or get the hell off the internet. You people make me sick. Your constitution is under attack and you not only don't care, you are too ignorant to see it. You want your welfare state and your government promises. You sell your country and government to the highest bidder and you scream bloody murder if someone threatens to have you make do with what you got until you can afford what you want. Credit bankrupted this nation, and your liberal left wing pity party is bankrupting your shrinking constitution.
I totally understand why people are asking the question. Totally. Its obvious to the rest of us that there are far too many idiots voting to make an educated decision about leadership. It scares the living daylight out of you that a 12 year old has the balls to ask what you yourself think or fear and wont speak. Your rage now expresses the depth of your arrogance and your ignorance. Kids blow people away.. This one blew your mind and didn't even have a gun... roflmmfao
The IDIOT that should be punished is the fool who reported the poll. He's no better than an Arsonist who set a fire and waited to watch the good guys put the flames out. The Secret service investigates ALL reports of threats on any sitting president. So, while this was going on... and my money is paying for it, how many real threats were communicated elsewhere? Is this all it takes to whip up a good publicity frenzy? Hell, Maybe I ought to go launch a website with a new poll....

I can list 20 sites and polls right now that are on the web. All you got to do is go google "assassinate obama" and look what pops up... I aint going to waste my time or pump up this sites reference tags doing that. This blog is loaded with BS enough as it is.

Sure... Be "appalled"...lol be "Infuriated"... be "OUTRAGED!" ...and while you are at it, try not to forget that a 12 year old got a good taste of American Hypocrisy at its finest. ...And you wonder why these kids murder their parents...lmao
They gotta pay your bills stupid.

Should the American car industry be bailed out?
    Should Roman Polanski be prosecuted?
    Should Madonna marry again?
    Should Obama be killed?

I don't have the cash to bail out the car industry, There are others that would do a better job of prosceuting Polanski and I am not going to marry Madonna - I am not offering to do any of the above and where is the THREAT????

My guess is that even if some member of a white nationalist supremacy loony klan wanted to do so he would do it and not try to attract attention to himself and if it was a terrorist organization I don't think they would use social profile sites to gather intelligence unlike the American "Intelligence" agencies are obviously doing.

To bring race into this is pathetic - if you want everyone to like you don't become president - no matter what your colour. To suggest, believe or even comment that whether America is (or not) racist (still) is equally dense. I don't know how many peopl voted for Obama but even if it was 150 million probably 50 million of those were voting for him even though he is black because the alternative was less desirable. To draw a conclusion from the election of Obama as President means that all America (even half of America) now is ahppy having Jay Z as a neighbour is naive. I wouldn't be surprised if the Secret Service has a few agents in there who may have some strong beliefs about having a black president.

And for those who believe in peaceful ways of changing governments and how apalling this is let's be honest America has changed a few (foreign) governments over the years and has been involved in its share of assassinations... if you include wars who knows how many have perished, lost family and suffered... on a scale of 1 to 10 of appalling this poll - which was not even asking "Should I kill Obama?" may be a 3.

I think we should leave facebook the way it is. There reason why this person was caught was because he or she was able to be tracked. Also if we close down ever thing because of what 1 idiot does then the millions of people that are using the site to help save the world, build stronger and wiser communities wouldn't mean a thing. What we should all come away with is know that racism, resistance to positive change, and a strong diverse country is still hated by some, but more importantly it's love by millions and we should keep moving forward as world. Facebook included.

Wow, where do I even start?
First, two posts, two different posting names/identities.
Having a hard time keeping them straight?

And then the inability to post as a reply, so someone might have an idea of what you are referencing, but that would be too hard.

But never fear, same indecipherable gibberish.

No, I stand by my first assessment.
Ignorant and biased? Sure. What else would I expect you to think of someone who is wondering how you made it to eighth grade with zero communication skills?
Let me speak a language you can understand: "Whatever."
If you think someone wondering how you could come away from that conversation thinking you made some sort of point short of standing in the spotlight of your youthful failure is judgmental, than consider yourself judged.
But better to have been judged and lost, than learn something before you speak and be cast as doomed for all time in a web of ignorant bliss . . .

To those posters who want to point to the fictitious fact of polls of who wanted to kill former President Bush, that wouldn't have been acceptable either. However, as has been pointed out many times in the last weeks, the vitriol and hatred being shown towards President Obama is unprecedented and disrespectful to the office of the President. There are ways to debate policy issues, and the majority of the methods being used now are not any of those ways. This country is seeing personal, disgusting, and un-patriotic behavior by our citizens that is an embarrassment to the principles in which the country was founded.

If the perpetrator of this act turns out to be a child, then, we adults in the country are the ones who are completely culpable for this young man or young lady developing the kind of attitude to feel comfortable with proposing such a question. We have failed as a nation in raising our children, if they have learned that this is how democracy works, and we should feel more than ashamed for our colossal disappointment. However, if this is an adult, that person should be punished to the fullest extent of the law, because it is time to put a stop to this type of idiotic behavior and show that we, as a nation, are above the level of barbarians.
  • Perry · 2 months ago
    thhalejr,
Thank you for your reasonable 100% accurate comment.
If the comments posted on this thread are a true cross section of this country (both adult and children,) then I would think those people might just benefit from the mythical and dreaded "indoctrination" that contained the tenants of tolerance, respect, ability to seek out truth as opposed to being a sponge for lies based in hate, and most importantly, the ability to snap out of the frame of immediate gratification and embrace the notion of long term gain over short term complacency, which is the sole reason this country is in the shape it's in.
No politician in the past half century has cared to move on issues that might be considered unpopular by the uninformed masses, in fear of losing votes for re-election. No, they been happy to feed the children cotton candy instead of a well balance meal that included vegetables. This is what has put our country in the dumper and I WANT MY COUNTRY BACK TOO ! The country that is not ruled by the boorish cries of the oblivious who are content to spend the rest of their days on the couch eating junk food instead of their vegetables because "they don't like vegetables."

Some of you will understand this. Most of you won't.
To those that don't, enjoy your cotton candy candy universe.

And for any of you who are claiming this idiocy is not racial, you've got an 800 pound gorilla in the room that you need to acknowledge . . .

This is a perfect example of users bringing a seriously wrong application to the attention of Facebook quickly and Facebook taking appropriate action. Seems like the process is working well for a pervasive issue.

There are many other issues on Facebook that continue without much sympathy from Facebook. I hope they continue to strengthen in revenue flow so more resources are allocated to helping users who have very legitimate and at times very serious issues.

If it sounds like I have some very specific experience with this it is because I do.
