Gee. After making the switch to a macbook pro, the only benefit I can see is that my walk is a little lighter since I don't have any of that cash in my wallet anymore.

It's slow -- slower than the 486 I owned in 1991
It crashes more than any PC I've ever owned
The software sucks
The networking is pathetic
The damn thing heats up like the engine block of a '47 Ford after 2 hours of work
Latches don't catch
Bluetooth disconnects and reconnects arbitrarily

Of course, for $3,500, what do you expect? I personally expect three rock-solid PCs that provide dependable service.

If you're contemplating switching, wait until they get the bugs worked out of these lemons at least. Or better yet, buy a Dell, use it for a year, then buy another and use it for a year, and piss away the extra $1500 on yourself.

Microsoft's cash infusion to apple was to cement a deal that MS will develop software (Office) for Macs and that Mac OS will have IE browser installed. Microsoft treated Office for Mac as a way to try out different things (because the general public hates change). Mac users were more tolerant to change (improvements). The predecessor to office actually started with Apple! Also, what possibly triggered this deal is that Microsoft contracted Intel to copy Apple's Quicktime, but Apple find out about it. At the time Quicktime was years ahead of what Intel or Microsoft had. But that is still debated today. In any case the truth is that Microsoft and Apple actually make each other better. It's like Batman and the Joker (you can choose who's who). They complete each other.

Completely false. The money that everyone thinks "saved" Apple given by M$ was only 100,000 dollars in stock purchases. This is pretty insignificant. The fact that at the time M$ purchased the stocks was when Jobs returned to Apple is pretty significant, showing that Apple was in a position that a large company like M$ would be willing to back up. This means that it was a marketing ploy to show that Apple was capable and not going anywhere, and nothing more. Further more the same hardware you use (aside from mother board) is the same as a PC. Intel chips, Invidia GPU, standard RAM/HDD and the fact that I switched because of sheer ability ie.. I can run window's OS X, or Linux on the same machine is a significant advantage to a PC. Both have good points to them its what the customer prefers. Close minded PC fanboys are just as bad as Mac fanboys. Just my thoughts on the matter and i will leave it at that.

Ahh - don't you mean 'without Linux/Unix'? Apple's Mac OS was built on FreeBSD (a Unix-based OS as I recall).

Mac OS is a good OS, made frustratingly annoying by the fact that it runs on a limited range of hardware - i.e. Apple's own hardware.

Linux/Unix are great alternatives that support a much greater range of drivers, allowing them to run on the average or custom-built PC.

The Ubuntu Linux family of OSs is even making Linux accessible to computer-'phobes' these days.

Well - no-one's forcing you to buy Apple's products are they?

If the analysts are correct and Nokia do win the case, then Apple should have been paying a license for Nokia's patented technologies.

Sounds like Nokia's been trying to play fair, while Apple have been playing the spoilt cheating brat.

Besides, Apple's iPhone has many shortcomings that really turn me off the product like:
* Hardware inflexibility - can't expand the existing hardware, nor replace the battery yourself.
* Inadequate A/V recording features - Nokia's less featured phones are better in this area.
* Apple's Multi-Touch, which other phone companies seem to be respecting (or a treating cautiously) - something which Apple itself can't seem to do.

some people have no idea, the only reason microsoft is around is because of apple, bill gates worked for steve jobs, then copied the MAC OS and created windows, its fact. in a couple of years time apple will surpass microsoft in wealth and size, this is another fact.

the reason apple is doing so well again is because the average consumer wants a product that works well, and windows is just terrible. even the MS ceo balmer suggests people should downgrade from vista to xp, lets hope windows 7 is better. for the average consumer its not about price, its about quality of product. and apple provide a better user experience.

I bet that Apple will bargain that it can discredit Nokia in the press, by questioning their real intentions with this suit. Questioning Nokia's intentions, and their status as a smartphone-marketer right now. Apple is great at spinning things in media, and will no doubt see this as an option to brand Nokia as an "innovation-killer", rather than focusing on competing in the market.
I also bet that Apple will lose this case in court, but win it in public opinion - as hinted above. Neither Apple, Nokia or anyone else is interested in being able to abuse others' IPR's, because they can equally be target for the same abuse in turn.

Apple invented touch screen???? What are you on crack? I love my Mac and my PC they server very different purposes for me. My Mac is great for graphic design and their enormous files. That said Apple is a bully way worse then MS. I got a crack on my MacBook Pro screen that was clearly a defect in product (started at the edge of screen where you lift it) and because it had started to spider by the time I got to meet a Mac Genius (which they are not I know more about those PC's then they do, I've been on one since I was 4 - old Apple II - great machine) they claimed it had to have been hit where the spidering started even though the edge showed distress in the glass and the spidering was clean of any distress to the glass. Windows 7 though is pushing me away from Apple as it runs fast and design wise it can now outperform my Mac because for the same money I can get way more PC then I can Mac. Configured the same I think they would be close to equal. Oh by the way to fix a crack on a Macbook glass screen is $1400 from Apple. Half the cost of the overpriced machine in the first place. It is pretty though with no cracks (TIP buy the matte screen. It's a downgrade and $60 extra dollars - yeah messed up - but you won't need to worry about an inevitable crack on the glass and insane repair costs).

I have tried both a Mac and and an iPhone. Needless to say I am running a PC and using a Blackberry. The iPhone is a piece of crap. Maybe if Apple didn't hold back features and cripple the device it wouldn't be as bad. When I buy something it is mine and I want to be able to whatever I want with it. As far as using a Mac goes. It was ok but I still prefer a PC. If Mac OS could run legally on a PC I might consider using it but I am not going to pay more for their proprietary hardware.

i used to be an "Apple hater". i have had numerous windows machines...then i decided to go a different route and get a MacBook Pro. I will never buy a windows machine again. And I just recently purchased an iPhone after having the Blackberry Tour for 3 months. It's an amazing product. I urge you "Apple haters" to try out a Macintosh or an iPhone and say that you hate it. I'll bet $50 dollars that without a biased opinion you will love what you get.

Go on Nokia. Apple needs to have its wings clipped. And fanboys..jeez...get a life..Nokia's been in mobile phones space for a long time...and heck if they've done the expensive R&D then Apple should pay them for using the tech...else Apple is no better than a dolled up version of the old Microsoft...new MS is getting more customer friendly.

And honestly, the day customers suffer high prices of Apple products, that's the day companies like Nokia, will swarm the US marketplace. HTC is already there. You wait and watch. There many more suits to come Apple's way. 1 Infinite Loop, you're in legal shit soon. And its about time.

I can't believe what I read here. What is unfair about the lawsuit? Many companies like Nokia, Qualcomm and co have invested billions in developing the technologies. Then comes along Apple, builds a great device but STEALS the intellectual property and technology from others and makes the general audience believe they invented it. And don't even want to pay licencing to the people who invested hard money and creative thinking into research and standardisation. Unfortunately as always Apple will be seen as a minor competitor and get away with it. Ridiculous. PS: See soon: Touchscreen Tablet PCs have been around for several years now (but not selling well e.g. HP), but once the Apple Tablet comes out they will celebrate it as the greatest invention of the decade.

sounds like it will probably run the same course as the NTP v RIM case... will drag on forever... there will be a few heavy blows, but in the end Apple will owe less then they should.
