I knew this day would come. I for one have stopped using MySpace for a number of reasons, mainly because it just doesn't have the same social appeal it had a year ago.
Facebook has been continually pushing out new features and updates since the new re-design and I think this is why MySpace isn't as popular anymore.

This is very intriguing, but can you clarify what qualifies as a music/band website? Because if they aren't counting retail sites like Amazon or iTunes, I suspect that a huge chunk of the outbound traffic decrease has to do with the trend of bands abandoning personal websites in exchange for using MySpace as their hub. Thoughts?

I don't think facebook does any better.... I bet that most of this decrease is a direct result of all the movie studios moving on from the habit of doing myspace.com/mynewmovie. They're still in the top 5, which is nothing to sneeze at..

That's because things are getting far more niche these days... Myspace has an identity crisis. Is it a social network or is it a music and video resource? With Facebook and Twitter leading the social networking side, Myspace would be better off concentrating on being a music resource.
Hey there .. not a good news for Myspace .... infact today I read an article about facebook which says that 2.5 million users are registered with facebook .. and there is a huge difference between myspace and facebook ,.. I ad an account on both the social networking sites but I dnt use the one I have registered on myspace.. its for kids .. I think .. The reason I stopped using myspace was I didnt have much frnds there ..

This is great news. I think I can count on one hand the number of MySpace pages I've seen that didn't make my eyes bleed. The sooner bands decide to stop using it instead of having their own decent looking sites, the better.

Myspace is kinda boring in its style. Think about twitter, digg, youtube. And it takes up only the european and american market. Besides, facebook attract more ppl than that - asians, enormous population.

This was coming long ago, they should have foreseen it. MySpace was killed by Facebook long time ago as a social site, and now it's not doing good as music site either. 99% Of MS pages make my eyes bleed, it's so horrible.

Personally, I feel MySpace Music has become a spam wasteland of late...as a singer/songwriter with a music page on MySpace, nearly every message I've gotten over the past months has been spam, the pages are filled with spamm-y comments and friend requests are just covers for spam. ...I do think MySpace is on the ropes, but these figures measure the wrong thing. Percentage of traffic may not be telling the true story as the volume of traffic may have increased drastically overall.
In such a case, the actual activity for MySpace may remain constant or increase, but the new players plus the overall increase in traffic may still show them with decreasing percentage.
Palm once had 70% of the PDA market, and in one particular year their total sales rose considerably but their market share dropped by over 30 points as new players came online and as consumer acceptance of the product class exploded.
MySpace should act like they have an emergency over there for sure. But these figures may not tell an accurate story.

I think that precipitous drop might have something to do with the fact that MySpace masks all external links and reroutes them to a "Are you sure you want to click that link??" page. Super fail on that, regardless, but I certainly believe it leads to people clicking out of MySpace less often.

It's sad but true, Myspace is going the way of dial-up, America Online and candy colored iMacs. It was once a social media giant but now is slowly fading into internet history. I, like many others, have recently made a complete move to Facebook. I'm sure we will all remember MySpace fondly but it might be time for MySpace to bow out of the social networking world gracefully.

I don't know if it's the interface, enormous amount of apps, or just the plain fact that it's NOT Myspace, but facebook has grown considerably in the past years. I think it's because Myspace always had a pretty bad rep because so many youngins began joining it. Facebook however started out with just college kids. Once fb made the transition to appeal to the rest of the world, it blew up. Myspace was almost too big for itself attracting spam businesses which also turned many away. I do have to say the music pages on Myspace are much more interesting than the Facebook music pages, but the quality isn't so great. In the end, Facebook is just another trend which will be taken over in the years to come by a new trend.
