It does have a thriving music community though and that alone is enough to convince me to stick around MySpace.
And what's funny is many of the folks I've "found" on myspace will message me back and tell me they don't really use it anymore...then they look me up on Facebook and become my friend there...oh well...in that way at least the site is helping me "dig up" some of those long lost contacts from the Myspace graveyard!
I've always thought that MySpace was messy. I mean it's nice people get to customize their profiles but have you seen some of them? It's tragic and you don't know what a mess of a profile you're getting to until you're there.
It's also just harder to navigate and most of the people I give two cents about are on Twitter and Facebook. There isn't a need for me to check myself out of the MySpace hospice for now. I just log in, check messages and log out.
This "Lite" feature is huge option but unfortunately not enough people know about it. Something MS should take note of....
Add to the fact that most MySpace sites look like totall ass, and you have a 100% self inflicted wound.
That's exactly what I do on myspace now, and to chat with a few friends that haven't gone to Facebook yet
The second big reason I left was that I couldn't find anybody on it that I knew. Of Facebook I reunited with everybody I went to high school with and some old friends.
The third reason is there's more support for Facebook. Every site you go to, every video, every article, every everything on the net has a share on Facebook button. Plus there's bookmarklets and lots of browser plugins to do the same. You just share a different type of content on Facebook and in a better way. It's cool and interesting things you found on the net and they're right there in your stream, not quarrantined in a "bulletins" area. MySpace is more about presenting yourself than interacting with others. Unless you count the daily friend requests from lingerie clad coeds named Kitten who try to direct you to their naughty pictures on some other bogus site.
Anyone agree?

I never used MySpace for music so that doesn't sway me, and even though this is a tired argument, it is true that the site is badly designed - not just the profiles, which yes can be customized now to look 'clean' and everything, but the site itself. I logged on there for the first time in about a year the other day and it crashed my browser, and was very slow when I could finally stay on the site for more than 5 minutes (and no, this isn't through a fault of my laptop, or browser, as it works perfectly)
Another thing I don't like about MySpace now is how it's integrated some very Facebook-like features, such as the little chat thing and the status updates... I have Facebook for that, so why would I then want to go to MySpace and do the same thing? This annoys me with any site, when they jump on a bandwagon and forget that its users use the site because it's THAT site - if Facebook go all out on being a clone of Twitter i'm sure i'll be back complaining about that too - there's just no need! Obviously there is from the perspective of the sites, but you know what I mean.
Also I don't know anyone that still uses MySpace, so it would be a bit lonely there.
It will continue to die. It has about as much credibility as Microsoft these days.
And Facebook is next...
If myspace is to remain relevant, perhaps they may have to revamp and refocus their target demographic and come up with something that no one else has, whatever that may be !!! Unfortunately, that may be too little, too late !!!
- A possible redesign and new (less annoying) features.
- Rupert Murdoch suggest that his news websites will cost users a membership fee from next year, maybe that will extend from news to entertainment and therefore include MySpace.
