Mashable - The Social Media Guide: Microsoft Will Sponsor Your Windows 7 Kegger … If You’re Cool Enough

  • jeremygoldstone · 3 months ago
I'm just guessing that's one where all the booze you bought for your last party doesn't work right?
  • Kerry · 3 months ago
And this definitely sounds like the kind of party that will have a ton of people crash.

    This is hilarious.

Mashable is such a center for the Church of Googlentology and Apple Fanboys!
Windows-7 is just awesome, the multitouch features are great, I will definatly upgrade software AND hardware.

Now, I can only imagine your dispair when windows-os will get project-natal technology! I hope BING is working on an api for xbox natal!

now, get your Iphone and try to relax ;-)
  • doctorparadox · 3 months ago
does it shock and awe you to know that i am actually a huge xbox 360 fan? project natal is dope. having to get approved for a windows 7 launch party is simply not as dope. ;) it's quaint in that sort of "awww, they're trying too hard!" kind of way.

Listen, you are twisting the facts. There is Microsoft and there is Houseparty. Microsoft has become an easy target, all the technology they are introducing are downplayed. By comparison all the information gigoloogle 'revolutionary' innovations are blow out of proportions, as was the case with Chrome-OS. Can you even remember how it was first 'advertised' in blogs? Same goes for Apple!
If you like Xbox-Natal, as you say you like, you know what I am saying. If Natal was made by any other brand, people would be talking about it all the time!
Windows-7, Bing, Photosynth, all great stuff. And there is tons of cool, exciting things from Seattle. Imagine what this can do for citzen journalism, just to give one very little know piece of amazing technolgy!

Honestly, it's just lousy marketing writing. I'm guessing there's a limit on the random Windows crap they want to give out for these things, so it's not like they can just hand it out to anyone. But really, using the phrase "win a Windows 7 party package" would probably be better than apply and be approved for.
  • Kerry · 3 months ago
Let me check my calendar. Awww, looks like I'll be doing laundry that week. =(
  • LeRoy · 3 months ago
I applied but I can't see how they would evaluate whether I am "cool" enough to throw a windows party.
  • dainathomas · 3 months ago
You what If Microsoft didnt find ppl cool or their profiles cool .. they will throw us out of their WINDOWS ....:)
I think we should take it in agood spirit .. and I guess .. sending out invitations to the ppl is in trend by big brands .. soon Google will also be sending 10,000 invitations for Google wave .. so watch out to get one ...

    Cheers,
    Daina

Gates: How are we gonna promote the launch of our new <strike>bloated spyware drm trap</strike> OS??

PR Guy: Lets give tons of booze to people with lots of twitter friends and facebook followers and they'll promote it for us.

    Ballmer: AARRRGGGHHHH

Gates: Sorry about Ballmer, he's been doing that for years. Yes, your idea is approved, make it so.

PR Guy: Cool thanks (gets the fuck out before Ballmer gets him)

On August 20, 2009, my new fantasy novel, Gateway to DreamWorld was released.

Synopsis: On their way home from baseball tryouts, Brad Colby and his two sons are involved in a terrible car accident that leaves six-year-old Pete in a coma. When Pete awakens, the family is crushed to learn that he is paralyzed.

Meanwhile, Pete’s eight-year-old brother, Jason, has been having powerful dreams that lead him to a mysterious realm known as DreamWorld. Jason discovers that all of his desires can come true in DreamWorld, but the time is fast approaching when he will have to choose between his two worlds.

And when more devastating news strikes at the heart of the Colby family, Jason and Pete set out on a desperate attempt to find the Gateway to DreamWorld and save their family. With time running out on their dangerous path, will Jason and Pete’s fear of the Unknown keep them from reaching the paradise of their dreams?

I invite you to order your copy now from Amazon.com or Barnes&Nobles.com at a discounted price.

Please help by spreading the word to your friends who enjoy reading a good book and be one of the firsts to pick up your copy of Gateway to DreamWorld.

Thanks for your time and I hope you enjoy the fantasy.

Now this makes sense. Microsoft has never really recaptured the hype and over exposure they had with the windows 95 launch.
So get as much people as they can to host a party.
    I'll bring the drinks!
    Who's with me?
  • ewarnke · 3 months ago
I applied on behalf of an organization I'm a director for. We're the Edmonton New Technology Society (ENTS), and we're essentially a collaborative workspace to further technology in Edmonton, Alberta. Kind of like a hackerspace but more organized :)

Hopefully we can host it there and boot Windows 7 onto our Microsoft Surface!
  • jorgeavilam · 3 months ago
After the photoshop thing, guess who's not getting into the party?...
  • djdigit · 3 months ago
I applied. It wasn't a long process at all. I actually like my Windows 7 RC very much. I've yet to come across something in it that I didn't like, so ... heck yeah, come to my party, if I get chosen. (It's already in my Google Calendar ...hehe)

The only Microsoft's product I ever liked was the Dungeon Siege game, though that was the only game I played for a period longer than a week:D

I think this is cheap of Microsoft instead of holding a large launch event and give away free copies of software to everyone. However, I applied anyway. :)

I suggest marching seven times around the Windows 7 disc and then blowing a trumpet on the seventh time.

You get a free copy of Windows 7...but you have to apply! Oh the nerve of them. I can't believe they don't want to give the OS away to everyone for free. Maybe they just want to see if your computer can run the software. Think before you slam, bright boy.
  • Justin Amirkhani · 3 months ago
I actually, genuinely think this is a great idea. Sure it may be a bit corny to base an entire party around Windows 7, but it's an interesting concept that's worked plenty of good for many other companies in the past.
  • Daniel Lewis • tRN · 3 months ago
If being corny will get me a free copy of Windows 7 Ultimate Edition, then I would…um…do something really corny.
  • csuwldcat · 3 months ago
I applied, what the hell, why not. It's Chico, CA baby! We party for anything, seriously, this proves it: a-n-y-t-h-i-n-g!

What's the relationship between Microsoft and HouseParty?
Can you get approved by HouseParty and then turned down by Microsoft or are they one in the same approval? And by the way...the HousePrty site is SOOOOO SLLOOOOOOWWW lately.
  • Mack Hoover · 1 month ago
May be it can be another way of Microsoft to promote windows 7, even though we should come clean that it is awesome and have a lot of new and attractive features.
