  • Tessa Horehled · 9 months ago
Still super text heavy but much better! Best Mashable design I've seen yet.
  • gruen · 9 months ago
    Less is more. Cashmore.
  • Daniel Ha · 9 months ago
    Very clever.
  • adamjackson · 9 months ago
Sweet! And you're using Disqus and Facebook Connect. Love the new design Pete and a huge congrats to all of you for a job well done. The writers have been working very hard lately and I'm loving how things have turned out.

    2009, here we come.

Pete, you let Leo Laporte and Dvorak talk you into this didn't you?! Haha, I head the twit episode where Leo was saying: "I just don't like the blue". I don't agree... looks stellar! My only complaint is that it's REALLY busy
  • mashable · 9 months ago
Yup, this the "Leo Laporte edition". :)
  • Nater Kane · 9 months ago
So are there actually less ads now? I really can't tell.
Also, I don't get the lists bit. It's confusing.
Why is twitter on both of the top navs? also confusing.
  • Randy · 9 months ago
Wow and you are using DISQUS now huh? The site looks cleaner.
  • mashable · 9 months ago
Yup, DISQUS have been great to work with!
  • Jim Connolly · 9 months ago
Love the new look of the site. Easier for me to navigate around and find more useful content. Sorry to sound like a total fanboy, but in my opinion, you have nailed it!

Excellent work - props to your design / user experience people!!
  • jallgire · 9 months ago
Changes sound good and I'm excited to see how things play out.

Just one tiny comment about the post itself. Shouldn't it be "Fewer Ads = Better Ads"? That's just the grammar geek in me talking...
  • mashable · 9 months ago
I'm totally with you on proper grammar: fixed!
  • Victoria · 9 months ago
    LOVE THE NEW LOOK:)
  • Web · 9 months ago
    too bright for me
  • Rahul · 9 months ago
Interesting look, the best part - Disqus comments ! :)
  • Lindsey · 9 months ago
I think it's a bit too busy at the top. And I really missing the pink accents :(
  • nrek · 9 months ago
Haha! Proof that Mashable posts about Twitter more than any other app (other than Google)? ... It's in the weird double nav, twice.

I like the right column you got going on here, but that three tier UI do-dad along the top is cumbersome, top-heavy, bad UX... Could have gone about it much differently (like providing a means to check out news channels from a page if your users choose to do so) - Don't force the issues by stuffing more buttons in our faces.
  • mashable · 9 months ago
Send me a mockup and I'll check it out?
  • nrek · 9 months ago
:P alright, Pete - lemme see what I can cook up for you.
  • DrewGneiser · 9 months ago
    Glad you switched to Disqus.
  • Yours_Truly · 9 months ago
Where you "asked" to drop Friend Connect, for some help adding Facebook connect?
  • mashable · 9 months ago
No, FB Connect just made more sense at this point. We'll use any and all services that help readers.
  • kittrr · 9 months ago
Love the new look but hey where is Google Friend Connect. its so usefull plz dont off it . better if u use the FriendConnect SocialBar just Love That. FriendConnect is better the Facebook Connect ( IMO) . it will be really bad if u drop FriendConnect . plz add it with SocialBar
  • Yours_Truly · 9 months ago
Made more sense as in how exactly?
  • Craig · 9 months ago
This is def an improvemtn and agree with @gruen that less is more. Just makes things easier to find.
  • Matthew · 9 months ago
Does this mean you guys aren't focusing on Tech News anymore so much as you are social media tips/tricks/guides/advice?
  • mashable · 9 months ago
    Matthew,

We'll continue providing a combination of timely and timeless content, as before.
  • Timothy · 9 months ago
    Very nice.
  • naterkane · 9 months ago
so the lists vs channels initially seemed to be split between categories & tags, but that's not it at all... ok, giving up now. time to get back to work.
  • RJBailey2008 · 9 months ago
Yes, this a very nice redesign. Very clean.
  • Alex MacGregor · 9 months ago
Good job folks, the only thing I'd suggest it possible moving the comments form to the bottom of the actual comments. (Could drop a small link to the form in its place)

Less is definetly more, my blog is about as less as you can get.
  • Jason A. · 9 months ago
    nice work!
  • Vinny LaBarbera · 9 months ago
Love the new site! Kudos to you and your teams who worked on this. The load is noticeably faster, which is always a huge plus. My initial reaction to the top bar was that it is too busy, but it is actually very useful after playing around on the site for awhile.

i love the new content focussed navigation at the top! very clean

As seen on Twitter: Congratulations on the makeover, very good. Though, is it just me, or are several images in the header a bit too compressed? http://twitpic.com/1pj7y

Thanks for all the hard work to make this a great social media resource.
  • mashable · 9 months ago
    Jeremy,

Good point...we've taken note to clean that up.
  • Mark · 9 months ago
I love your new look - extremely appropriate and well laid out for what you do. Great site to follow as well - here and on Twitter!
  • adamhirsch · 9 months ago
Wooo! Thanks for the (mostly) positive comments. As Pete said, we've taken our reader feedback and made some key changes based on that. Woo for Facebook Connect!
  • DC · 9 months ago
It looks great, Pete. Thanks for letting your audience know!

Understanding your customers...that's simple marketing. In the the UK we cannot look at anything that is vaguely spammy or has loads of ads. The same for the rest of Europe. American based websites (not all) need to understand they cannot get European's hooked with their standard sites. Google's home page is a prime quality example. The other side-Godaddy's site. I actaully could not read through the intensity of the page, just way too much stimulas and left quickly. Think global, think simplicity.
  • Jason Peck · 9 months ago
I do like the new layout!
  • Sameer · 9 months ago
Wow! The site looks very crisp and sharp. It surely helps me in browsing faster but I feel that the Read This >> button is unnecessary. Maybe a simple link can be as effective.
  • spatibanda · 9 months ago
Congratulations. You finally got it right. Great job Mashable Team.
I Love the new look. It is much easier for everyone to find more useful content and
pages seem to be loading much faster.

The new tag line definitely gives a more focused meaning to what Mashable serves every
    day.

I really like the limited number of icons provided for Sharing bookmarks - Share This Post.

I've been a long time Mashable fan and reader, but I'm not so loving the new layout. It just seems to have more graphics and larger pictures. Also the Yahoo Buzz button just takes you to My Yahoo and that feature will be closing in March 18th. I do notice that there seems to be more white space. I liked the old "Share This" button rather than having fixed sharing buttons. Now it just seems busier & crowded at the top. What's the difference of having a Twitter List and Twitter Channel? I clicked on both and they seem pretty similar.

Anyways, long live Mashable. I love reading the articles!

PS: I'm sure it'll just take time for me to get use to the layout.
