I love the idea of doing away with regional networks!! I have been thinking that for a while now, but didnt think that Facebook thought the same thing. I love Twitter, so this is right down my alley. This is a real enhancement, just wait and see! Really and truely, what is the purpose of a regional network? Facebook is a worldwide networking site now!!

facebook without regional networks makes little sense...the sense of community is lost...

this is a worthless change... it closes doors, not opens them

quite simply, i will use facebook less without regional networks.

With how buggy Facebook has been for me, I assumed it was another glitch, another part of Facebook that didn't load today, didn't function at this time. Happens a lot. But the longer this didn't work and more I started to wonder.

Frankly, I'm not a fan of the change for the simple reason that between marketing and managing two fan pages it makes it more difficult to target a local audience. Now, I only have about 370 friends, which is still manageable (if less convenient in the tiny selection box). I can't imagine how frustrating this change must be to those who have a thousand friends or more.

I'm confused.. Are they eventually getting rid of all networks, or just regional ones? I think the networks come in handy in a lot of ways, and made Facebook unique (but here we go again, they just don't know how to stick with what they've got). I honestly think they need to stop trying so damn hard to be like everyone else. They had a great thing going and now who knows what's going to be left behind.

Nobody seems to have mentioned the fact that you can create your own lists. It is pretty easy to create a list named "New York" and add all your New York friends to it.

I absolutely 100% hate it. I have friends all over the world, and travel frequently. It was one of the most useful aspects of facebook.
For instance, I'm going to LA in a few days and would like to get together with all my friends there. It would be easy to look them up before this.
I'm not happy....Facebook made a mistake.

I travel quite a bit and used the regional networks to notify friends in, not just the U.S., but other countries that I would be passing through their Cities. It worked wonderfully for me in West Africa and Poland. It was an amazing feature that I hope returns soon. I really think that facebook got it wrong in removing regions. Their thinking on this issue is really short-sighted.

Gonna be honest - I never really ever used the regional networks. Where I live (South Africa) they just aren't as extensive as they are in the States I don't think, so I didn't find them very useful at all. To be honest they were more annoying for me than anything else, so for my selfish reasons I support this move by FB.

I noticed the change back in July, but hadn't really focused on it. I was in the Sweden Network, though I live in Washington State. Was sad to see it go. I was in the Sweden Network because of heritage.

FB is smart enough to recognize that they're taking away something we all find super useful... It wasn't perfect though. People didn't always join their regional network or switch networks when they move. I'm guessing they'll roll out Geo-location features so that people can see where their friends are in real time rather than relying on data that needs to be provided by users manually. They're going to need to replace that feature with something, otherwise they're just stripping themselves of their usefulness.

Sad to see it go, but one thing is for sure and that is "chance". If facebook wants to stay on top of it's game it will have evaluate what is working and what is not... It does make sense.
