Mashable - The Social Media Guide: LEAKED: Details of the Facebook Home Page Redesign [Screenshots]

Now all they need to do is add that elusive "dislike" button...
  • fakyuol · 1 month ago
    yawn.. insignificant.

I wonder how many "I hate the new FB" groups will erupt because of this?

I love how they do not let the site design become stagnant. Always improving and/or evolving.
  • HomeBiss @ Saidul A Shaari · 1 month ago
Looks great! I love it! :)

Too bad most people in my part of the world don't really know how to use Facebook properly. Sick and tired of their stupid gaming notifications. They should get gaming consoles, not Facebook. :(
  • recklesslover · 1 month ago
    Who cares. Really.
  • hahapluto · 1 month ago
My thoughts exactly. Tiny changes, pumped through the Mashable/TechCrunch suck-up machines.
  • Ben Parr · 1 month ago
With over 300 million users, I'm pretty sure big changes to Facebok will have a major impact on how people and brands utilize it.
  • Mark 'Rizzn' Hopkins · 1 month ago
It might have been more accurate to term this something other than a "redesign," at least in your writeup. This isn't so much an aesthetics upgrade as an info-infrastructure upgrade. What data appears where has been adjusted. A redesign implies radical changes to the UI, which hasn't happened at all.
  • TrafficBlogger · 1 month ago
    Jeez get over it.
    Good post Ben.
  • Mark 'Rizzn' Hopkins · 1 month ago
Looks more or less the same.
  • recklesslover · 1 month ago
I wouldn't call it a redesign, that's all. They tweak a few things and we're supposed to get all excited. They're simply trying to recover some of the ground they lost to clutter.
  • Guillaume · 1 month ago
    I agree with you ! I care.
  • Guest · 1 month ago
    People with proper punctuation, obviously.

Excellent news, moving birthdays away was a stupid idea.
  • Erick Hamness · 1 month ago
Finally! They pulled their heads out of their asses and re-added the lost news feed stories. It was a big mistake for them to even pull these items in the first place! Let people filter them at their own discretion! It's a pretty straight forward concept.

Looks good, but nothing like the Design Barton Smith did. Check out - Facebook Gets a Facelift - http://creativeoverflow.net/facebook-has-a-face...

That looks more like a facebook desktop application. Which I'd thoroughly enjoy. It might actually be more stable than the web experience I've been having.
  • Alex Penn · 1 month ago
This is great for users you only occasionally log into their Facebook accounts. It won't be much of a change for the frequent user, only necessary for weekends away or the overwhelming weeks. Still, I am glad that the Friend Feed team is being incorporate as they are real innovators.
  • shortformblog · 1 month ago
God, another redesign? I think it's good this one at least fixes things the old one messed up, but still, this site changes designs almost as often as it changes underpants.
  • francescociriaci · 1 month ago
From the screenshots it seems that there will be not a decrease in size for the Facebook Publisher box but that it will be transformed into a button...
  • Anees Younis · 1 month ago
I'm not a a fully active Facebook user myself, although I do make use of the Facebook Connect feature but I must acknowledge the fact that these changes will have a fundamental impact on Facebook's mammoth user base. Such improvements can only help Facebook continue to grow as well as maintain their existing user base.
  • Elle · 2 days ago
It does not make sense to call this an improvement IMO.
  • Anees Younis · 2 days ago
Well you are absolutely entitled to your opinion, I was merely
    offering mine.
  • trinaloveabram · 1 month ago
Thanks for posting this! As they are redesigning their 'face', I hope that they code stronger security protocols also. I enjoy Facebook, which reconnected me to friends from Elementary School. I'm glad that they are continually upgrading and listening to us. Thanks
    again.

It's not much of a change but a change nonetheless. It will help advertisers out a lot more then regular users.
  • WittyScreenName · 1 month ago
I hate the update status button. I like the current status/link/photo/etc interface. It's very efficient.
  • john · 1 month ago
Love the top stories introduction. Looking forward to seeing it!
  • pamelajaye · 1 month ago
The last update must have been in March. I remember complaining about friends sending shamrocks. App announcements annoy me, so I finally grabbed my left nav menu and pulled Status updates to the top. Is Facebook about to take away that option?
(I miss photos and links, but from time to time I scroll to the right and check out the highlights, or peek into one of my List views)
  • Ace · 1 month ago
@pamelajaye....unfortunately that option disappear when they moved to real time updates. thus there's no way to exclude all the "Friend A is now friends with John" post and other stuff i don't care about.

    from the Help:

"Since News Feed is now a filtered stream showing real-time posts from your friends, the old news feed preferences page is gone. You can remove friends from the News Feed list (and therefore from your default stream) simply by clicking the "X" that appears when you hover over their story in your stream."
  • calgarygraphicdesign · 1 month ago
Ridiculous. Facebook belongs to Facebook. They don't need anyone else's permission to change their site. Informing users ahead of time is merely a courtesy.
If you don't like it, leave!
  • Elle · 2 days ago
I did leave actually. The only reason I'm on it now is because I have to be to promote my business. I think it's arrogant to suggest that users should not have the right to say how they feel about the redesign/tweaks.
  • bhartzer · 1 month ago
Now I might actually have a reason to visit Facebook more than once a day.
  • Sams Zubayer · 1 month ago
1~10 then 10~1 ..now fan pages will be more focused.
  • Paul Eulette · 1 month ago
I am glad they are simplifying the mess they created over the past few "updates/upgrades." Thanks for the information - hopefully Facebook realizes they are just Facebook, and not a Twitter/Myspace Hybrid.
  • seanazul · 1 month ago
Umm...I'm not sure I would call this a re-design. Maybe an enhancement or revision, but definitely not a redesign.
  • Teen Blogger · 1 month ago
Finally a change. I know it's not much, but at least it looks different.
  • jrafique · 1 month ago
They keep on changing it. But looks like a good move. More easy to navigate.

It'd be nice if we could get the events/birthdays above the fold. I miss more birthdays now that you have to scroll down below all the crap on the right side.

Not really sure why people are saying they don't need to show it to users... they're not... this was for advertisers...
  • mager · 1 month ago
Kinda cool, but also boring. When will Facebook engage me on someone else's profile page?
  • Anthony Bynoe · 1 month ago
So the new FaceFeed is on the way. They took this long to realise that birthdays and other events in the feed should be more prominent.
  • Milan Markovic · 1 month ago
    lol friendfeed is that you?
  • Gilian · 1 month ago
Playing with fire. You know what insecure touchy subjects Facebookers are. Why not change the blue colour theme to red. That would cause mass suicides.
  • Stephen Bates · 1 month ago
What I don't understand about this whole redesign scheme is this: What determines what is a top "story"? What is the weighing factor? Unless Facebook can answer this, it's a pointless change, and the feeds on the left of the home page are perfectly adequate.
  • Ace · 1 month ago
it seems like top stories are ones with many comments (it's already live on my account). i can't tell yet how often they are getting updated, but i've seen things like "morning news" and "evening news" as well.
  • Goatse · 1 month ago
Facebook is useless. Who gives a *£**
  • jamiekalynuik · 1 month ago
Not so much of a redesign as it is a face lift. Either way I like how FB is continually tweaking and evolving their site. Thanks for sharing!
  • meganfink · 1 month ago
Wow. The changes are barely noticable.
  • CarlPhelps · 1 month ago
The most important part of this "redesign" is the slightly positive impact for Fan Pages. The more Facebook can do to increase the usefullness of the website for brands, the better off they will be in the long-run.
  • Trudy · 1 month ago
I fantasize about their being no Highlights sections or Friend Suggestions. A girl can dream...
  • FAILBOOK · 1 month ago
*YAWN* FAILBOOK! People really need to get a life and stop camping this *crap* called facebook.
  • Shirley · 1 month ago
Well, I think they switched. My Facebook, along with my husbands is all screwed up. Part of it doesn't work. Part of it looks similar to the "new" redesign. There is definitely bugs in it. I have to use lite.facebook in order to get anything. And that's just awful. It's a watered down page, but gets the info you need, eventually.
  • Ace · 1 month ago
i've had it on my account for at least 2 wks, i thought it was just another new feature they didn't announce on the blog first. it sucks, especially since they added friend acceptances and groups friends join to the news feed. they did remove the "highlights", so it's much easier to keep up with birthdays again but it's like for every step forward, they take at least one step back so they're constantly spinning their wheels.
  • Name · 1 month ago
What about the changes they have made to groups! My groups are an absolute nightmare to look at now, "Thanks face book!"
  • Jim Reid · 1 month ago
Since they're adding "photo tags, friend acceptances, relationships, Event RSVPs and group memberships" back into the News Feed, hopefully they give us back the old News Feed Preferences page with sliders to tell it which story types we want to see. I was happy to see all those "John Doe and Jill Smith are now friends" posts disappear from the News Feed after the last redesign.
  • facebook-77500063 · 1 month ago
Instead of redesigning the page, I'd still rather they made a correction so that you can change the main admin of fan pages. Still, don't mind the changes.
  • Amanda · 1 month ago
I hate it. Bring back the old one!!
  • Minnie Acero · 1 month ago
It sucks and it's slow as a snail (although in my head, there are other profanities "streaming through my home page - but it's so slow that it's only up to the F). Too busy to waste time for loading pages.. and no, it's not my internet connection! Twitter here I come!
  • Sherryl · 1 month ago
This new "simply" way of doing things has just messed up the way FB worked and how we FB'ers liked FB!
  • Name · 1 month ago
The new format is AWFUL. The connectedness between people - is GONE... just a steady stream of "all stuff" .... no way to select among it like before.

I want the old HOME back ......

WHATEVER!!! Still this "In addition to making the site cleaner and simpler for users, we're also making our APIs clearer and more straightforward for developers. We built many APIs to enable you to create rich social experiences for your users..."-thing is not what it says it is!

things became more complicated! i just hate the new facebook.

myspace.friendster.tagged.twitter. i'll be there if facebook keeps these changes.

sorry, but i totally hate and disagree with these changes.. idiot!
  • Amber · 1 month ago
Does anyone think they'll eventually update the news feed/wall privacy settings as it's still meant for the the old home page? I'm conflicted with this live feed but I've always said they need to make event/group invitations OPTIONAL as well as page suggestions, app invites, and all that other crap. THAT is what annoys the crap out of me and makes FB so tedious anymore, especially because I have a larger amount of friends because of networking purposes.

What difference does it make now? The site continues to be crap. Somebody seriously needs to take out the trash, it's starting to pile up.
