Mashable - The Social Media Guide: JobSpice: A Shockingly Simple Resume Builder

  • Greg Hannity · 3 months ago
It's just another resume formatting tool. Nothing particularly impressive. Job seekers are encouraged to use the Resume Builder on writeCLICKresume, http://www.writeCLICKresume.com.

Interesting idea for a site, but I don't like the lack of terms & conditions or FAQ - how is the personal info entered on the site going to be used? Seems silly to blindly give your address/phone number/ email to a site without a privacy policy. They don't seem to charge for the service... so how do they make money? Seems like data harvesting is a threat.

Along those lines, we developed a shockingly simple job finder, just copy and paste your resume and we'll find related jobs: http://jobs.searchles.com

    Amaaaaaaazing!
Just in time! Thanks for sharing this with us!

This is awesome. Only problems I see right now is that "sharing" doesn't work quite intuitively (also can't delete share links,) and some items render funky in Chrome. Otherwise it's an example for what a perfect web app looks like.

Looks really useful but buggy. The first thing I tried was the export to PDF but it keeps infinitely redirecting.

I tried in Firefox on another computer, Chrome, and wget, and they all worked. Perhaps it's an issue with one of the plugins in the Firefox I used originally - either Foxit or PDF download...

Also, you can press Save, only to see a login screen without the option to register. In fact, I couldn't find it anywhere on the site. Did you just find a pre-alpha version, Ben?
  • Artem Russakovskii · 3 months ago
Ah, apparently it wasn't a login screen - it was the signup screen, which only has username/pw. Not too intuitive as when I see a form with only username/pw, I assume it's a login form. So, saving works, I retract my last comment.

Yeah, we're trying to let you do as much as possible without registering. Also, I think we're all so used to long registration forms that it's a little surprising when all we ask for is a username and password.

You should also look at emurse.com, another great tool for resumes.

This is great -- definitely going to have to write about this on our network.

Very cool and useful even for people who aren't looking for jobs, but should keep an updated resume.

Nice idea however I'd be concerned with how JobSpice uses my data. Would I be inundated with spam, or even worse, would I be at risk of identity fraud.

LOVE this! Thank you so much for the twitter post:)

Neat site... but where is the privacy policy?

I created a dummy resume real quick, but yeah right I'm about to give my address, work history, and phone number to some random website.

A really nice UX. We'd be interested in exploring how to link these CVs to job offers on http://twitterjobsearch.com through the share feature.

    Cheers,

Have you seen VisualCV? A much enhanced version of what JobSpice offers where you can make your resume stand out not just with some template changes but with a portfolio. If you don't have a portfolio there are still some template options and because they've been around for a while the site is less buggy than JobSpice.

They also have sharing features for Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and e-mail and a convert to PDF option.

Take a look at the Resume builder in VirtualJobCoach.com just as easy, and much more useful

I just found this great website for people looking for a job. Check it out www.laidoffneedajob.com

Hey Page, I ordered some of the wristbands from www.laidoffneedajob.com and they really work. They are great conversation starters and I even got a job. I bought more and handed them out to my jobless friends. They loved the idea. It's a nice gift to let them know you are thinking about them. Love it.

Link is mess up. Though it sounds very user friendly but what about the very content of your resume? The grammars, how the description is written, and it's connection with the hiring manager? This could end up very generic and hiring managers could easily spot this. I'm glad I found a great free resume wizard which helps you create highly individual and professional resume, you might want to check it - it's worth the time and effort.

I already featured it as startup in my website. This is another PDF resume builder @ http://www.skillipedia.com/resume .It's only a part of user professional profile. It has tons of features nowhere found in any resume builder
