Mashable - The Social Media Guide: Is @theRealAlGore the Real Al Gore?

  • Danny Sullivan · 1 year ago
I wondered as well, after getting followed. Then I read through the few articles, and they just don't seem real. In one, there are links to lots of company's I assume Gore advises to, done in a way to say "hey, i have a business here" the many odd references to melting ice also give it the sarcasm feel.

Pretty sure it is fake - but I got a kick out of it, and blogged about some of the funnier parts an hour or so ago:

Number of followers at Twitter set maximum of 2,000 - suspiciously similar to a bot.

Why would he feel he needed to follow anyone? One of two real posts would build a following.

On the blog it linked to, it was all set up on the same day as the Twitter account

On the bio from the blog it states "Inventor of the Internet" and "Inventor of Global Warming" Really? You invented Global Warming?

    Nuff said.

    Fake!

Crappy seo code, private Tucows registration, name servers in panama and also, Barrick is a gold company that Gore distanced himself from--- they ain't a 'sustainable sponsor' as listed on the site-- (and seems the have a bad rep anyway.)

His Twitter icon is a Getty Images stock from a Rolling Stone interview.

Election is over, I was bored, had to dig.

Haha. It's clever but obviously fake. The REAL Al Gore would never throw a hyperlink to a a wingnutty and super-critical post by Bill Hobbs.

I knew that Gore created the Internet, but I did not realize that he invented global warming too. Very cool.

The wp-login link at the bottom says "Nobel Winners Only" -- CUTE!

Seems incredibly amateurish if it is Al Gore - Polar bears so cliché.

What are the odds on a legit blog and twitter account coming?
  • Sid Savara · 1 year ago
How about the fact that Al Gore already has a blog?

I was going to say the same thing, too. Seems kind of odd for him to be running two "official" blogs.
  • Mark "Rizzn" Hopkins · 1 year ago
I just noticed that he had an official blog after I posted this. I debated on whether to update it or not.. it would definitely add to the oddness factor if both were legitimate.

Uh, is this blog post real? Taking a look at his twitter feed was easy enough to dismiss it as a fraud. Did you know the word gullible is spelled with a j? Yeah, it really is.
  • Madrid-cheapo · 1 year ago
But maybe Al Gore should start to make fun of his big invention of internet faux-pas. Would probably be a success.
