The only problem I can relate to is the dropped calls, and that's because I'm in Chicago, where 6 in 10 commuters have an iPhone. Solution? Turn 3G off and use the EDGE network for voice. If I'm trying to find my way around (data), I'll go back to 3G. Then again, even when I made the brief switch to Sprint, EVDO was painfully slow, too.
The gripes this post makes against the iPhone should be levied against US cell networks in general, but whatever. Now that the Droid is officially the second coming, all the cool kids are slamming on the iPhone -- hands down the best smart phone on the market.
mla
PD.: But, ey! Stan is a cool kid LOL
I've never had any of those problems either. Sometimes a call drops, but it's not on my end. It's the Verizon customer on the other end!
That's not the same as "a high amount or people".
If so, the amount of customers should have nothing to do, the point should be that a too high % of this people is having problems.
BTW, I'm sure apple apreciates this kind of feedback and they'd love to enhance iphone's performance on call.
The first one released wasn't even 3g when that technology was around. Not to mention a low res camera (compared to what was out there), no MMS, no Video etc etc.
The apps I understand are what really makes the phone worthy, and as far as I understand, the OS is rather cool.
I just can't help think that it should be sooo much better than it is and it's meant to be a great device.
So when I discovered about the Nokia N97 before I was due my upgrade, I wanted that. I even changed networks. It kills the iPhone hardware wise yet completely shoots itself in the foot when it comes to the OS which is crazy.
They've had to release a big firmware update already (I'm still waiting for mine to download it), so it shows it's not ALL about the hardware.
Worst phone ever? I would say most frustrating phone ever as in if they nailed the hardware, I think pretty much all manufacturers would be hard pressed to beat it.
Idiot.
By the way, the Facebook Connect link is not working below!

Messaging
* You can not send nor receive contacts via SMS
* You don't know how many chars are in that SMS (160 or less? more than 160 = higher charge!)
* You can not edit a number before you call again
* Stupid number presentation when abroad - why does iPhone try to push me into rules of number display?
* not able to store USSD commands as shortcodes (eg. to know about my prepaid account is *100#)
* numbers not presented properly, sometimes the call list does not hold the latest record
* MMS OTA config (OTA=over the air, by self-config binary SMS) not possible
* Beam a contact by Bluetooth to another non-iPhone? No way!
...
And - how the hell is it impossible to read incoming PDF's in a good way? No bookmarking, even the simplest features are missing!
yes, that is really annoying!
But all the other issues - absolutely. Call quality is pretty poor, reception is the worst I've ever had (the same places with my old phone on O2 worked fine). I've had issues trying to end a call when the phone basically crashes and the call only ends when the otherside finishes it - bit a major issue but annoying. Calls not ringing or coming through is another issue I keep getting.
Worst phone ever? Probably not, but the phone features definitely need a complete overhaul to get up to those of SE or Nokia. But as the article says, the iPod Touch features are why I have the phone and they are great.
Battery life - when I compared to my previous phones, I am bit satisfied with iPhone battery life. I do agree that it takes good amount of energy. But having all the features it is fine.
Plus, calling the iPhone the worst phone ever because of your personal experience owning one iPhone in one location is hyperbole (or giving credit to those who say that without the broad numbers to back it up)
I use my iPhone for everything and couldn't imagine life without one. Google Maps get me from one place to another via the best route on a daily basis. I use my iPhone for email, text messaging, and to do spontaneous, on-the-road research. My daily task list and calendar synch with those on my computer. My contact list. These are things that have become important to my daily productivity and business life. Then there are less important apps that provide great luxuries - listening to music, tuning my guitar.
I switched over from Verizon once the 3g version came out. There is NO QUESTION - AT&T service is horrible compared to Verizon in the DC-Metro area. I cannot figure out if it is just the network or if the phone is also partly to blame, but I always get dropped calls, or the phone fails to make calls repeatedly. I've had three different phones. Twice apple has swapped out my phone for a replacement because the the amount of dropped calls. AT&T has occasionally discounted my bill because I've complained about a huge number of dropped calls.
The iPhone is an amazing device but a Horrible phone no doubt. No one wants to carry around and iPhone and a normal mobile phone.
i'm a relatively new iphone/AT&T user in san francisco. i'd guess that about 1/4 of my phone calls get dropped. in addition, i don't get reception inside my home.
before iphone/AT&T, i was a long time sprint/a900 user. i don't remember it _ever_ dropping a call (except when riding caltrain through a tunnel). and, i got a clean signal in all rooms of my home. when i got my iphone (3gs), my friends all commented that the audio quality of my calls had dropped significantly.
battery life on the iphone is much shorter too, but it hasn't been too much of a problem. i just charge it every night (my a900 could go 3-5 days between charges).
that said... i'm not giving back my iphone (even if i had a choice).
Battery life: Calibrate the battery properly and switch on auto-screen brightness. I go for two days without recharge, with medium to heavy use.
*shrugs*
And poor Stan. If you praise Apple, you get called a fanboy. If you say anything bad about Apple, you get attacked. Life's harsh, man.
That being said, I've also been told by a few different people that the iPhone as a phone sucks - and if I wanted the features, just to get an iPod touch. I have to tell you though, carrying my verizon phone, my iPod touch, and a digital camera - yeah, it gets old. Like, really old.
While we're on the topic of volume, when the phone rings I can barely hear it, even if I'm sitting on the bus and it's in my pocket. My wife's Nokia 6500, on the other hand, screams like a dying cat and everyone in the bus knows it's ringing. Same with SMS alerts. Actually, worse with those. Unless I have the headphones in I usually miss them.
And... before anyone asks... yes I do have the volume turned all the way up, and yes, I did in fact take a hearing test recently with better than average results.
I wonder if the Droid and other smart phones will also struggle with battery life. I'm guessing they will. It's tied to the size of the screen and amount of processing, obviously.
Frankly, as bad as AT&T's quality is, I couldn't give up my iPhone at this point despite a few problems. It has changed the way I work and relax. Now if Verizon were to get an iPhone, that would be nice. I'm hoping this will happen on the new LTE network.
I would complain about battery life to, but I keep chargers/cables in 4 different places to charge the iPhone from wherever I am :D
Au contraire, I believe the problems are much more operator based than hardware based. Is this a promotional article for newly released non-iPhone phones?
