Mashable - The Social Media Guide: iPhone App Store: 65,000 Apps and Counting

  • originalp · 4 months ago
With the rumored App Store makeover they should finally completely separate games from utility apps, that's one of the things that would make finding apps faster! They also need other sorting options like "Upcoming" for popularity-rising apps "Highest rated", and "Most downloaded" etc by EVERY category.

iPhone is growing fast but it's taken a recent major hit in app count from Khalid being kicked off

It was for the better and should have happened a long time ago.

65,000 apps but very few of them are really good. 0.99$ wins popularity contest and therefore developers keep churning out crappy apps. What about PREMIUM AppStore rumored several months back?

I don't disagree. Still, the number's impressive. Apple needs better methods for organizing apps so you can find the best ones.

Eventually the app count for iphones is going to be as silly to keep track of as is the app count for desktops

Don't get me wrong, I really do like apps, but I'm never going to get through 65,000. Apple really needs to make sure the apps going out into the app store are great apps and not just some random app from a kid in his basement trying to get an extra buck.

That comment doesn't make sense. It's not apple churning out apps. It's people in a recession trying to make bucks from what they believe is the latest gold mine.

It's important that producers of apps market their products well online and offline, to make sure everyone who might be interested in the app knows that specific app actually exists.

Nonetheless, I agree that Apple needs to reorganize its apps store.

Mashable, WorldMate took the first place in the Travel section paid app, with it's flight alerts push app.
Worth a review, I would say...

I am one of those 3 million ebook users. My reader of choice, however, is the Kindle for iphine app. I have not yet shelled out for a true Kindle but happily purchase books to read on my iPhone Kindle. I LOVE it!!! How many of those 3 million are useing the Kindle app itself?

The rapid growth of apps will only become a larger and larger problem for Apple: approval processes will become lengthier and discovery of apps for the user will become nigh impossible.

The App Store needs a revamp, and it needs one bad.

I use www.appvee.com and a couple other sites for app discovery. Everyone is right...65k apps+, there's no way to find the good ones. Easier to let someone else do it

Wow 65,000 is insane. I remember when it was first released and only had like a couple hundred O_O

I'm not concerned by the stats - no big deal! Of course there will be other mobiles that jump on the apps wagon. And why not?!?
