I first used intensedebate for my site. It's great, but I find Disqus more neat and more attractive for comments. And my decision was right, more comments on my site after installing Disqus. I don't know if what are the factors, but Disqus is like hypnotizing my readers to comment.

One issue with Intense Debate that I have been working with them on is that lengthy comments will not post when made via Internet Explorer.

They have tested and confirmed it on my blog but they haven't notified me of a resolution yet.

To be honest, Disqus performs poorly with some mobile browsers that don't support JS well.

We didn't develop with the mobile browser in mind, however we haven't forgotten about it. We're addressing mobile in different ways such as iPhone specific interfaces and WAP-enabled commenting.

I replied to your tweet but I can go into more detail here. If the integration is with a WordPress or a blog with a plugin architecture, Disqus degrades well without JS. We don't have an EE-specific module, but this would be possible to do with our API.

well, unless you wanted two separate comment widgets, which, would be odd. Disqus also has Seesmic integration. See the "record video comment" button :-)

I'm sold on the concept, the benefits seem manifold. What I don't like is the reliance on Javascript to embed the functionality in the page - do I have that right? (I think both Disqus and ID use this). Thoughts on this point?

I suppose if I developed with WordPress, this might be moot (I'd be surprised if we didn't see server-side integration at some point). Developing in Expression Engine, we'd have to see a module or extension developed to get that performance.

And what about mobile devices with poor Javascript performance? How do these commenting systems degrade (esp. if JS is off?).

Regardless, my eye is on these developments - thanks for the post.

This is good news! Although it makes it harder to choose a commenting platform!

I've tried both - Intense Debate was giving my readers some issues, although I haven't tried it since upgrading to 2.7.

Disqus wasn't integrating well into my theme + chat catcher & seemed to affect the page load time but was thinking of giving it a second try after yesterday's announcement by Mashable.

Now I may hold off a bit more and see how the new ID works out!

Looking forward to reading more comments here to see what others are using/their thoughts.

The key thing is that IntenseDebate needs, badly, to catch up with the continuous stream of home runs that Disqus has been having over the past six months, culminating in their "Social Media Comments" announcement yesterday.

The plugin platform might be just what they need to do that, and more. We don't yet know if it will be flexible enough to allow the number one request on the IntenseDebate support forums, Facebook Connect integration, but among there sample plugins, they have matched the Disqus video commenting feature.

It's going to be interesting to see just how far IntenseDebate allow plugins, which have to be uploaded to and accepted by them, to extend the functionality of their system.

I received some good and bad comments from my readers. Some like the feature, some don't, but overall I think it's great. I also LOVE the feature that allows me to approve comment by email, it's just so convenient.
