With the recent mass creation of porn spam accounts I'm not surprised at twitters reaction, however, as usual their reaction is knee jerk and badly implemented and has resulted in doing more damage to their members than good.

I'm one of the suspended ones :(. I used to tweet under @imaginginsight on Twitter, and haven't been active for the past few months due to personal reasons. However, I got suspended.
Dunno if this matters, but @samsungimaging seems also suspended. Pity since that operator was really nice, even troubleshooted my camera problem although it wasn't from Samsung :((

my account @dahliamadison was also suddenly suspended today for no reason. i submitted a ticket several hours ago, but no resolution. i was reading the issues logged at getsatisfaction.com and it seems to be a huge issue. i use twitter to get business information from the people i follow and to post relevant information that i think will be useful for my followers. if i can't trust twitter as part of my business presence, i will have to rethink how, or if, i use it.

I think it's unlikely they are related, the 4Chan attack used newly formed accounts (for the most part) and by the sounds of it at least some of the accounts suspended are old accounts.
Also the attackers are still posting to twitter, it's just twitter have removed #gorillapenis from the trends.
I'm also suspended, @ourinformer, for no apparent reason. This happened about two months ago. Emailed twitter support, but I'm still waiting for their response; not including the auto response.

I've been suspended... and right in the middle of several conversations I was having, one, regrettably about the loss of a family member of one of my followers... not the best timing ever.
I've got over 22,000 followers. But pretty sure I did nothing wrong, or against the rules. I haven't unfollowed in weeks, I'm not automomated, I have real conversations about my niche and personal stuff, I throw out informational links, I promote my blog. All I've done today was follow back my new followers, throw out a couple of links to great articles regarding my niche (fitness) and tweet out my latest blog post url... nothing against the rules. I sure hope having a lot of followers isn't suddenly against the rules cuz I'm sure going to miss my posse if it is... I'm one of the most OCD tweeters you might ever meet. haha
another friend who has over 100k followers I've also noticed has been suspended as of today.
good lord, they gotta fix this... I'm starting to get separation anxiety here!!! (no, seriously)

Not sure what Twitter's reasoning is for this but the sad part is that people who are having issues don't even have a direct person to connect with at Twitter (eg. Community Manager). The spam account isn't constantly monitored, and I'm sure many of us know that the help forum takes some time to get a reply from as well.
I understand that scaling such customer support may be an issue, but this is something Twitter desperately needs to implement if they really want to keep their users happy - or fix problems they've created on their own, such as this.

Yups, I was just suspended for absolutely NO REASON. I just use the web client and Twitterrific (ie, no crazy tweetdeck making thousands of requests), and of course I am not a spammer. Quite the opposite: over the last 3 weeks I blocked dozens of spammers and reported several of them to @spam, in the hope of making twitter a better place.
Just filled a request on Twitter tech support to re-enable my account. @GuiAmbros. Would appreciate if you can re-tweet. Thanks!

I hope Twitter realizes this is clearly a mistake and rectify it. What about the potential brand damage when people go to a businesses Twitter page to find it's been suspended for 'unusual behavior' - not impressed Twitter.

Twitter must have gotten the message that spam is creating too much noise in the stream. Taking and wasting valuable time from bonafide tweeters who must BLOCK. What solutions can we offer? I'm sure Twitter will re-instate the obvious excellent folks on twitter. Maybe the suspended tweeple can disengage from twitter and come back with a new perspective on life?

After much searching finally found the right spot to contact them, if you need it : support@twitter.zendesk.com They actually responded right back, but still haven't reinstated it. I DID offer to give them a list of the bots and porn sites I've had to fend off the last few days tho, lol

I have 2 accounts that I use. One for business and one for personal. Both have been suspended and I have no idea why. I have reported it and appealed it. I have several that I tweet with on a regular basis and their accounts are suspended as well. None of us has any idea why. These are not people that are spamming or anything like that. Hope Twitter gets this resolved quickly.

Our @pdxpipeline, @pdxjobs and others were suspended today. I opened a Get Satisfaction ticket. I had believed it was an intentional move but perhaps there is a total mess up as you stated.
I dealt with the suspension issue last week. Ridiculous. The worst part is the Twitter customer support and response... well, the lack of it. I created some suggestions/thoughts for Twitter... maybe they'll hear us? maybe not.

Well, I got the same treatment from Twitter today. I got really freaked out at first until I found this thread.
I sent several requests but no luck and I now know why. They are probably swamped with them and are just trying to reinstate the accounts ASAP.

I got suspended today as well??? Not sure how this twitter thing works anyways. I'm not in to porn or anything bad...had submitted a ticket a few days back because of not being able to follow back. I suppose I hit some limit and do not know what limit that is as of yet. I send a few DM's to those who send to me. I send out updates to my Blog and occasional links to green living news and always provide the link. I am very courteous and genuine with my DM's and haven't been rude or anything and do not use autoresponders. I'm not sure what you call aggressive following, but I did sign up for tweetme which is bringing me a ton of followers. Probably more than I want to deal with...but I sift through the dirty ones and follow back the rest! I honestly do not know what the deal is, but figure Twitter has been more of a hassle for me than anything. I did send an email to accounts suspended but should just as well close my account and move on to something else?

Confused and frustrated is exactly the phrasing when asked how I "feel" in the request to Twitter support. Then I got a "you've had too many searches" error when my searches hadn't been more than usual, so I started to suspect it was technical and not personal.

A few weeks ago my original account, at around 3000 followers, just disappeared. My request to Twitter for help was met with silence. Then when someone finally contacted me I go the lovely explanation of "this seems to be some kind of strange bug"!!!!! No sh*t...
Now I get this absurd suspension!
I'm starting to thing I should concentrate my efforts on Facebook.

I posted earlier that one of the accounts I manage has been suspended. Fascinating that I'm STILL getting new porn and other spam followers on my other accounts, even in the last hour. So Twitter suspends accounts for no reason (the one of mine they suspended had under 500 followers) but the OBVIOUS spam and porn accounts (based on usernames if nothing else) continue to propagate like cockroaches.

Besides spamming, and reports of spamming, Twitter will suspend you for following and unfollowing too many in a short time. Unfollowing more than 200 in a day seems to trigger it. Problem is Twitter can easily suspend you automatically, but Un-suspensions require human review, and you can see they will be overloaded.

My Twitter account, krumlr, was suspended about 14 days ago after Google flagged my Twitter app http://krumlr.com as an attack site. It was and is not. But since people can post links to it (it is a social site), I suspect Google found a link it didn't like on my site (though I never could) and flagged it.
Google reinstated me shortly after on my request but Twitter also suspended my Krumlr profile and it took Twitter another 10 days (and some complaining from Krumlr's users) to allow Krumlr back on. Apparently, Twitter may be using Google's safe browsing database to suspend at least some of these accounts. Hence the real need for a service to screen links before they post to Twitter as a shortened URL (like Krumlr does). We hope to have this screening feature within another week or so.

Yes. the account I manage, @radionational, has been suspended. I have no idea why. As a part of the Aust. Broadcasting Corporation I would think we a are a very reliable and trusted user. I can only guess it is something to do with posting via 3rd Part apps - for me Tweetlater.com. I have 'taken a ticket' and am waiting to see what happens. I hope it is a 'fault' not a crackdown on use. We don't spam, we inform and engage.

One of my largest Twitter accts was suspended today. Not sure why but I had been adding a lot of followers this past week and I do use 3rd party feeds for some of my Tweets. Maybe Twitter is cracking down on 3rd party applications.

Earlier today, we accidentally suspended a number of accounts. We regret the human error that led to these mistaken suspensions and we are working to restore the affected accounts—we expect this to be completed in the next several hours.
One additional note: some the accounts suspended were using the third-party site Tweetlater. However, Tweetlater is not to blame for these suspensions nor is it in violation of our Terms.

Sent ticket for @bluewatervision and after checking on it they said it was assigned and closed and my account is still suspended with no e mail from them saying it was checked on. Sunday, July 5th, 2009: A lot of people with legitimate Twitter accounts are currently suffering from having their accounts suspended (late Sunday afternoon).
It is not TweetLater’s doing or fault. So, please do not submit a TweetLater support request about it.
We just heard back from Twitter via email, and they said : “Spamcloud hit. We’re working on restoring accounts.”
We just need to be patient. The suspended accounts will be restored.
Update: We have no idea exactly what a “spam cloud” means. It is probably Twitter staff lingo for a massive spam attack.
Update: We have seen during previous spam attacks that Twitter tends to shoot first and ask questions later and indiscriminately lay down carpet bombing when their system comes under a spam attack. A lot of innocent-bystander accounts get massacred in the process, which they then have to restore afterwards. This is most likely what has happened again.
Update: We have no idea how long it will take Twitter to restore the wrongly suspended accounts. We do not have insight into that information.
Update: Twitter has now posted an update about the suspensions on their status blog.

I got clipped... had thousands of followers and posted several times a day... it was working until about 5PM... then poof... I was down. I was following and vetting people - so I suppose I had follow/unfollow activity... but a few hundred changes out of 6 thousand would get me clipped?
I do use the Tweet Later service... so I wonder if that put me in the "must kill him now" profile.

Maybe if spammers would stop using it for porn there wouldn't be so many suspended accounts. I am SICK of getting porn spam!!!! What's considered a spammer on twitter? Spam is when you post something on a site that is irrelevant to what the sites content consists of. Twitter is anything and everything so to say any one thing on twitter is spam is flawed.

I was one of the suspended accounts, and it is quite frustrating i can tell you. This is i believe the second accidental suspension of my account. As i cannot see it possible the way that i use twitter i would ever hit any of their hourly limits, for API, tweets, or such. However it is always a eye opener that you really shouldn't rely on any single source of traffic, or place that, while i know Twitter is not a life line for me, i would figure something else out if i had to. Other's it is much more then just another social network.

This is just not acceptable. Why bother with the service if this is going to happen.
Ironically, we verify the identity of celebrity accounts on Twitter and have 20,000 + people following. So was a bit of a shock and we were inundanted with emails.
An email never worked but a quick tweet to twitter and it was resoved in 45 seconds.

Ultimately, a human is involved somehow. God doesn't involve himself with computing--not until the quantum machines start coming out.

Suspensions are a big issue. Also, though, apparently, Twitter has disconnected active folks from Twitter Search. I've done nothing to break TOS, but apparently I can't be seen through Twitter search and neither can over 2000 folks either. Problem is, because we can't show up in Twitter search, we also can't start a trending topic on the subject. And TPTB won't give any status, update or anything. Just my comment. Have no idea if it will be read.

My emedesigns account was suspended on Twitter last night. I was so upset. Today, one of my subscribers sent me www.friendfeed.com/ after looking at friendfeed I realized it was a great backup to twitter (can't personalize like twitter). Now my Twitter acct is up & running again but it revealed the weakness of Twitter for business (at the flick of a switch your connections are gone so back up your connections) after joining friendfeed (thank you Mari) it posts to your frindfeed & twitter - how cool.

I've been blocked 6 of the last 7 days and I'm sure it's China blocking me and doubt that my account has been suspended by Twitter. I figure it's China blocking Twitter because of the riots of late in Northern China. I use DestroyTwitter and cannot log on through the app. Can't log on at Twitter either. Yep, Akerbeltz is having the same issue with the status changed to resolved when it clearly isn't and now they have said that they are aware of the suspended accounts not being unsuspected as a known bug. Hmm, really the customer service really lacks any meaning of customer service. A bungle like this really needs better handling and more communication to the users.

I've got over 22,000 followers. But pretty sure I did nothing wrong, or against the rules. I haven't unfollowed in weeks, I'm not automomated, I have real conversations about my niche and personal stuff, I throw out informational links, I promote my blog. All I've done today was follow back my new followers, throw out a couple of links to great articles regarding my niche (fitness) and tweet out my latest blog post url... nothing against the rules. Hope these sheds some light on what may be going on. BTW using shortened URLs won't protect you from a suspension since Google (and probably Twitter) looks at where the redirects terminate. Hence the real need for a service to screen links before they post to Twitter as a shortened URL (like Krumlr does). We hope to have this screening feature within another week or so.

Sunday, July 5th, 2009: A lot of people with legitimate Twitter accounts are currently suffering from having their accounts suspended (late Sunday afternoon).
It is not TweetLater’s doing or fault. So, please do not submit a TweetLater support request about it.
We just heard back from Twitter via email, and they said : “Spamcloud hit. We’re working on restoring accounts.”
We just need to be patient. The suspended accounts will be restored.
Update: We have no idea exactly what a “spam cloud” means. It is probably Twitter staff lingo for a massive spam attack.
Update: We have seen during previous spam attacks that Twitter tends to shoot first and ask questions later and indiscriminately lay down carpet bombing when their system comes under a spam attack. A lot of innocent-bystander accounts get massacred in the process, which they then have to restore afterwards. This is most likely what has happened again.
Update: We have no idea how long it will take Twitter to restore the wrongly suspended accounts. We do not have insight into that information.
Update: Twitter has now posted an update about the suspensions on their status blog.
Earlier today, we accidentally suspended a number of accounts.

Ironically, we verify the identity of celebrity accounts on Twitter and have 20,000 + people following. So was a bit of a shock and we were inundanted with emails.
An email never worked but a quick tweet to twitter and it was resoved in 45 seconds.
