Mashable - The Social Media Guide: iDon’t Care: Video Spoofs Motorola Droid’s Anti-iPhone Ad

  • Alberto Vildosola · 1 month ago
iDon't buy brands who bash other brands? Have you ever watched a Mac vs PC ad?
It doesn't say why iPhone is better than the Droid, most people buy products based on those "vague information" like 5MP camera vs 3MP camera, or flash vs no flash.
This is perfect for describing the fan boy attitude "WHAAA WHAAA I don't hear you, I don't care, I love STEVIE WHAA WHAAA"
  • conigs · 1 month ago
"iDon't buy brands who bash other brands? Have you ever watched a Mac vs PC ad?"
Hence the inclusion of a clip from one of those ads and the "i… oops" tag after it.
  • Alberto Vildosola · 1 month ago
    Yeah I missed it
  • JohnONolan · 1 month ago
So you commented before you even watched it?

    What. A. Douche.
  • mrjeffhill · 1 month ago
That's pretty weak. The production is nice though.
  • Jason Rukus · 1 month ago
    iLaughed! iCouldn'thelpmyself, ok iStop.

You know what I do care about? My crappy data network! Also I am not sure I ever got over the bitterness of spending $400 on a phone that couldn't send picture texts or record video.

I am actually interested in seeing this Droid thing already, I checked out the Moment which seemed fairly interesting as well. Android is making leaps while Apple is fighting the FCC while simultaneously hating it's users and developers. As we say on the Twitter #notagoodlook

To all those commenters who said "iDon't buy brands who bash other brands? Have you ever watched a Mac vs PC ad?" or variants of - did you not watch the rest of the video where they showed the Mac vs PC ad clip and said... "i.. oops" - muppets.

Very entertaining come back :D iAmused.
  • E. Montag · 1 month ago
Ding ding ding! You are correct. :)
  • Yojay · 1 month ago
Yes, but it was still weak. Not a very consistent message in this video and the joke was poorly executed IMO. It might as well have ended with "iAm content with yesterday's technology"

and "iCame first"? So did myspace...

"iDon't buy brands that bash other brands" - hate to tell you, but this is what Apple's marketing strategy has been together with their Agency of Record Chiat Day for the last 5 years or so. They just do it a little more subtly and with more humor. But bashing nonetheless.

I'm looking forward to testing it out. I've enjoyed the campaign :o)

I mean the bottom line is this, unless you make a phone better than the iphone, dont even put it out.

It's like the Car ad's always saying "its like a Honda" well if it's "like a Honda" why would I not just buy a HONDA!
  • Chris Stewart · 1 month ago
    Yeah...Screw innovation!!

    Don't even TRY!

    A+++ commenter! Will read again!!
  • JohnONolan · 1 month ago
As far as I remember the car ad is for a VW Golf, not a Honda..
  • Clemence Ko · 1 month ago
VW Golf? Do you have the link to the video? Would like to see it.

haha, Poor iPhone! They can n't even respond well to Droid Does ad. iPhone became speechless!!!

What can iPhone can do more than it? Nothing!
  • conigs · 1 month ago
Um… You are aware this ad isn't from Apple, right?
  • eagledream · 1 month ago
I love this - and the iphone

"iDon't buy brands that bash other brands"

Ummm, Apple bashes Microsoft on a regular basis.

I've got a MacBook and a G1. iDon't have to be a slave to one brand or another.

A lot of people aren't getting the "i...ooops" joke at the end. The spoof is admitting that Apple indeed does that. ;)
  • johnnyrokkit · 1 month ago
    indeed... easy to miss. :)
  • Joe Dawson · 1 month ago
Great iLove! Android is definitely the way forward...
  • Tommy Bay · 1 month ago
iDon't bash on other brands?! What about the Mac vs PC campaign? How do they justify using that at the end of the video?

Don't get me wrong, I love my iPhone. I love Mac. But I think this spoof is kind of hypocritical.

Oh, the R2D2 animation was quite clever.
  • conigs · 1 month ago
Hence the "i… oops" tag immediately following that clip.
  • Mike Murray · 1 month ago
Not an iPhone person, but I didn't care for the 'iDon't" ads because when I buy the Droid in two weeks, it has to immediately pit me against everybody who has an iPhone and doesn't get why I WOULD want to get something different. So, for that reason, I hate being pitted against iPhone people.

For what it's worth, though, I will always side against Mac/Apple ads. At least in terms of the Apple vs. PC ads with the actors, the thesis of those commercials, for years and years, have always been: if you have bought a PC, you are a sucker, and you've been tricked into buying it. As annoying as the Laptop hunter ads were or as expoitative as the little Asian girl Windows 7 ads are, PC ads have NEVER insulted me for buying a Mac, where as Apple ads have consistently insulted me for buying a PC.

I own both macs and PCs, and I will prefer the ads that don't insult me. So, thank you PC.
  • Aerocles · 1 month ago
iDon't get the line about not buying brands that bash other brands - mac's been doin that for years...
  • paulpuri · 1 month ago
i....oops? Seems like it is putting down the fanboy/girl mentality. If this is a pro Apple ad, it does a piss poor job.
  • facebook-501044847 · 1 month ago
    fantastic!
  • dharma52 · 1 month ago
I am happy that I didn't get an iPhone now. Sure it's got thousands of games & useless apps if that is what you want. If it were on Verizon, I would consider an iPhone. AT&T's crappy network will never get my money for that phone (not to mention the Google Voice fiasco). I am anxious to see this new phone an d hopeful to try it. If I need my entire music library or look at last year's Christmas pictures, I turn my laptop on at home.
  • Michael Hart · 1 month ago
"iDon't buy brands that bash other brands" (0:18).

Yes, that's ironic. Considering this parody itself bashes the Droid phone.

    Someone didn't think this through...
  • Matt Langford · 1 month ago
Watch the video again dude... That part was a joke, hence the "i...ooops" part right after it.
  • bizarro id · 1 month ago
A good joke doesn't need to be explained. Poor execution.

i hadn't seen the Droid commercial. Not bad marketing, to be honest. Then i saw the fan-made commercial defending the iPhone. You gotta love it. For the most part, iphone users (myself included) are in love with their iphones and could care less about the list of idon'ts. We're too busy DOING all the amazing things th eiPhone does do that we're not going to be bothered by idon'ts. Sorry Droid. The Apple fans win again.
  • Jayson Barrons · 1 month ago
Wait, apple fans are so busy not caring about other brands that they spend time making response ads to other brands?

What I love about this response is that while the droid may not be an iphone competitor, the android OS is clearly enough of one to ruffle the feathers of apple jocks. Apple needs a proper competitor - for too long their design strategy has been "we know better than you," and it's time that starts to shift. It only works for so long.

I don't purchase technology so I can be smug, I purchase technology because it's good.
  • Andre G. · 1 month ago
    Brilliant!

Oh, and why are all the comments italicized?
  • marcio123 · 1 month ago
iThink Apples iPhone hit a spot that no other phone will be able to surpass. Theyll match it, im sure, but always be a step behind. Yes iPhone has its drawbacks but they get fixed and improved! Android may reach its knees every once and a while, but iDont think theyll overtake iPhone....iDoubtit....iSincerely DO! i)
  • Ryan Lalonde · 1 month ago
This is just so briliant. I want to marry whoever made this.
  • droiddoesnt · 1 month ago

Oh, the irony of including the line "iDon't need to imitate" in an imitation short.

While I'm able to find the humor in the shots from Apple, I am becoming a bit fatigued by the incessant superiority barbs by Apple owners. We get it. You like your phone and/or computer. Enough already.
  • Matt Dunlap · 1 month ago
I will only buy a product AFTER they bash another company... But then again, I'm pretty manly
  • gurt · 1 month ago
    Seriously funny indeed, but...

iPhone and Mac users are way to obsessed with being an iPhone or Mac user. It's blinding them. It's like any fundamentalistic religion (scary and dangerous). They don't see clearly and will eat whatever their maestro serves them. PC users and or Android users use their gadgets just because they do whatever it is they need it to do. Make their life more efficient et al. Not because they think it will make them a more interesting person or give them identity.

I for one am a PC user, own a nokia phone and would buy an iPhone tomorrow if only it had a real keyboard. It hasn't so it's not for me. It's a good phone, but lacks the specs I want. End of story.

    Johhnyrockit said it well.

The obsession with iPhone users always trying to bash anything that isn't apple is sad. Choose for yourself, not because of what you think other people might think of you because you blindedly endorse a brand. Get a life...

I had to stop reading the comments. I was getting dumber. Anyone who had something negative to say about the "iDon't bash other brands" part must not have watched the whole video. If you have the brains to comment here, you should have the brains to understand the "i... oops" part that followed. It's pretty straightforward.
  • Edward · 1 month ago
Enough with the '..mine's bigger than yours' already! The iPhone won't work for me, because it's AT&T and they have a crappy network. Anything on Verizon that is even close will get my money just for that reason... and 'out of network' and dropped calls don't feed the bulldog in the business world!
  • Cody Gibbs · 1 month ago
APPLE ALWAYS BASHES OTHER...oh wait I forgot to watch the rest of the video before commenting like all the other impulsive freakazoids on this board.

  • Adam Jadusingh · 1 month ago
To be perfectly honest, I do understand that there are some short commings on the iphones behalf but its not all about that. The difference is I have had my iphone for over a year now and it works perfectly. All the things it is capable of doing it does very well. I have used almost every phone on the market and they all might do things here and there better than the iphone but fall short in many other places. It's not perfect but at the present time I still believe the iphone is the best phone on the market.
  • Clemence Ko · 1 month ago

I have to give it to them. That was pretty funny.
  • RJ · 1 month ago
One thing is clear from all the comments. People have very poor attention spans, which greatly benefits both Apple, Microsoft and in this case, Motorola.
  • pinoytutorial · 1 month ago
Aside from BGR, engadget had finally "touched" the droid in the flesh.

A poor spoof. Did nothing to justify why the iPhone is better. It's just fanboyism, which always ignores that competition in the marketplace is beneficial for everyone.
  • Kanon · 1 month ago
It just an evident means in the business competition. But I don't like it.
  • Charles R. · 2 weeks ago
    This spoof fails.
